FL FL - Guma Aguiar, 35, Fort Lauderdale, 19 June 2012

Report: Missing Florida tycoon's wife asked for divorce hours before he disappeared

The wife of missing Florida oil tycoon Guma Aguiar told him she wanted a divorce just hours before he disappeared, his mother's lawyer told ABCNews.com.

Aguiar's disappearance has triggered a fight for control of his nearly $100 million estate between his mother and his wife. His mother, Ellen Aguiar, said she believes her son may have been in a delusional state or suffering from psychosis, according to court records. She filed an emergency petition while rescuers were still searching for Aguiar's body last week. She amended that petition Monday, asking that a bank take control because it is a neutral third party, her attorney Ilene Lieberman said.

On Thursday in the same court, 10 lawyers tentatively agreed that Northern Trust should oversee most of Aguiar’s estate. The judge plans to consider the proposal by Tuesday, when the bank is expected to accept control.

Jamie also alleges Aguiar had interfered with the police investigation of her missing son, by possibly deleting “critical voice and/or text messages” from Guma’s phone, the petition states.

Was the body that was found ever identified?

I'm confused about that as well! It must have been determined that it wasn't his if the family is in court and the Judge is ruling. Seems like the'd know more than the rest of us.

Did the missing founder of a Houston-based energy company stage his own disappearance?

His uncle believes he did.

Two questions then, beg to be answered. WHY would he do this, if he cannot benefit from the Billion or so personally , being fought over, that might be his half of the proceeds by going through the courts, and sharing with the uncle.

How can you do this by staging your own disappearance?

The wife as noted is cashing in and selling assets, but it's still quite confusing as to the wheres and whys of it all., although it appears he is gone or at least the court must think so, to allow his estate to be disbursed this way?

But then again, the uncle is asking for the emails and communications to all be carefully studied., so he must really believe this is a scam perpetrated by Guma, UNLESS, this is a ploy used to divert attention away from himself as the "beneficiary" of said lawsuit? Hmm.

For some reason I don't think the wife had anything to do with him vanishing.

If he was having psychological problems and the wife was asking for a divorce, he may have just taken the boat out and killed himself by jumping overboard. He could have been that off balance and the wife is not in anyway involved.
