I wonder how she died? I know kids that age do like to hide in closets and she may have piled the clothes on top of herself and fell asleep. They do this sometimes when they mess themselves.

I am just not feeling this to be some kind of an accidental death in the closet. Terribly sad, RIP little Ziya.

Hard to believe accidental with an arrest so soon. Was it the Uncles bedroom closet she was found in? Article did say he retired to his room to "rest". More to this tragic story. RIP Ziya

so......did she disappear into the uncles bedroom with him? one of the above linked articles states that 10-12 people live in the home where she was found, but the article also went out of its way to say that the home she was found in was ALSO on brinker street as if it may not be the home she lives in???? and who is this "other ADULT babysitter" that was also there watching the kids????

I had a funny feeling last night when I first heard this breaking news report and posted the missing child here at WS that this story would not have a happy ending. Details of who was in the house - uncles, cousins, lots of kids - and who was watching them changed every 15-20 minutes as the story evolved. The little girl "disappeared", but no one sees her leave the house. Yeah, right

By Lauren Abdel-Razzaq
The Detroit News
A 1-year-old girl who went missing Friday night from her home on Detroit's east side has been found dead, police said.
Zyia Roch-Quelle Alyssa Turner's body was found early Saturday morning inside the house on the 18800 block of Brinker by the Southfield Police Department's Cadaver K-9 unit, according to an email from Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens.
The investigation is ongoing and individuals are being questioned by the Detroit Police Department's Homicide Investigators, Stephens wrote in the email.
No additional information is being released at this time.

The Brinker Street house is actually only about a mile from the Mitchell Street address where Bianca Jones was visiting her bio-dad, D'Andre Lane. Brinker is a block west of Joseph Campau while Mitchell is a block east of JC. The Brinker address is several blocks south of 7 mile; the Mitchell Street house is just north of 7 mile. Same general vicinity as my childhood home in the "D"

:'( I was hoping with all the people in the house that someone had taken her with them and the message got mixed up in some way. Prayers for her, the family and friends.

Yes, but she is not an infant. If a pile of clothes was laying (or lying?) on her and restricting her air, she would move them. This is a ridiculous story in my opinion. She is too old for a pile of clothes to kill her.

Carnel should have NEVR been allowed to be babysat by that monster, and this uncle was probably not babysitter material either. JMO

According to this article the uncle is in custody, but his name has not yet been released.
Oh how I hope upon hope that this was just a very tragic accident, but I'm just not so sure about that. Fly with the angels little Ziya.

Here's what I think. The child died in the closet. The death was not intentional. But the child also was not in the closet by chance. The uncle put the child in the closet so that he didn't have to watch the child. Then he went to take a nap, make out with a girlfriend, smoke a joint, make a phone call, watch TV or something. When he returned, the child was dead. So he just shut the door and announced that the child was missing.
COD could be many things. It's horrible to think about. So I'm not going there tonight. We'll know soon, though.

Family members are commenting on the story and have indicated that the uncle passed a lie detector test and was released. There's also a mention that a family member other than mom was caring for the girl.

I completely agree about Carnel and this baby.....just not sure what we as a society are guilty of. I would take all of these kids if I could.....maybe as a society we should fight for stricter laws? Carnel should have never been returned to his mother. At the least, he and mom should have been checked up on. This little girl....I don't know what would have prevented the danger she was put in. It's just all so sad....

I'm usually quick to jump on the foul play bandwagon, but, I'm just not feeling it here. I hope I'm right, for the family's sake.

There are many ways the baby could have died accidently in the closet. Trapped between boxes, or strangled by a bag handle, etc. I hate typing things like this but I guess time will tell, when more information comes out.

A cadaver dog led officers to the little girl’s body....
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/07/01...est=latestnews
.... she was discovered dead underneath a pile of clothes, some type of metal box, and other items ....
-------------------
Elan said she found out about her granddaughter’s death from her sister in Chicago who learned the details on wxyz.com.
------------------
Elan believes it was a tragic accident and that somehow Ziya walked into the closet and clothes toppled over her.

Autopsy hopefully will provide some answers. It may not point to the person tho. I'm leaning toward foul play obv. So very sad.

Unless there is major breaking news, Sunday is generally a slow news day on most local TV stations. This update from WDIV indicates that the autopsy has been completed but results haven't been released. Police are still questioning family members regarding the little girl's death.
On last night's 11:00 report, it was noted that there were sometimes 20 people living in the house on Brinker Street that is owned by Ziya's paternal grandmother. I got a good look at the house in the live video and noticed that the house is quite large and similar to those in the area that are actually duplexes - the main residence occupies the downstairs, and there is a flat upstairs (rented out as a source of income) - living room, kitchen/dining nook, one bedroom, bath - that is accessed from the rear of the home and up a flight of stairs.
