Q&A for LI Locals and those that grew up here

5 minutes north there are 900k + houses.
Yup.

Some of those homes in Wheatley Heights exceeded 1.5 Million in value not too long ago. Dix Hills is five minutes away too. Some of those homes exceeded 3 Million In value before the bubble burst.

Halsey manor road is one thAt goes between manorville and riverhead. Check map there are others

I consider dix hills pretty rich.

that area being shown on the map is what i was referring too.not north of it.that open area is north lindenhurst, wydanch and then goes in to weatley heights which is more like the slum area of dix hills or you can say the upper class section of wyandanch.but the direct area on map there ,are no million dollar homes.

It is actually Wyandanch. Less then 5 minutes from here I have a friend with a 1.8 million dollar house. Doesn't matter anyway.

Bump.

Seek and you shall recieve. I have been saying this crap since march.

The whole drive around in a circle must be a sick adrenaline rush for him. Everytime I pass it it gives me the creeps.

LINative, I need a little help. I can get the miles from Amber Lynn Costello's place to Oak Beach and to Manhattan from Google, but not the driving times or other travel times. I assume, it makes a big difference due to traffic. Any estimations?

At night I can drive from Ambers house to Oak beach to Manhattan in my guestimate would be under 2 hours. Assuming no traffic.

From Ambers house to Oak Beach: 20 minutes (assuming no traffic)
From Oakbeach to Midtown Tunnel: 1 hour (assuming no traffic)

Throw traffic in there and you can easily multiply that time period.

And how far is Higbie Discount Liquor (West Islip) from Massapequa, timewise?

So, given, that Amber Lynn Costello was a Craigslist escort and that a lot of people commute into NYC from LI, it looks like, she lived in the middle of business. I take it, there are also trains/bus-lines to Manhattan?

I'm sure there must be bus lines, but I don't ever remember anyone taking them - everyone I knew took the Long Island Railroad. The railroad line that goes along the southern side of the island has Babylon as a main hub; from there, you can take an express or a local to Manhattan. There is also a connection in Babylon that heads to points east. Some of the local stops, for a rider heading east from New York City (30 years later, I can still hear the conductor saying this stuff) are Massapequa, Massapequa Park, Amityville, Copiague, Lindenhurst, and Babylon. A rider heading further east would change there, then get to Bayshore (due north of Oak Beach/Gilgo, btw), Islip (quite a bit east of West Islip, which is actually also west of Bayshore), Sayville, etc. People who want to visit the towns on Fire Island (east of Oak Beach, and also east of the Robert Moses public beaches) take ferries, which I recall taking a good 20 minutes or half-hour to cross the bay. There's a ferry from Bayshore to Kismet (the first, most westerly Fire Island town) and another to Ocean Bay Park. Further east, in Sayville, there's a ferry to Cherry Grove (a gay mecca). A round-trip ferry ticket is $17.00 (wow, that's gone up since the 80s!), a one-way railroad ticket from Babylon to New York City is $13.50 in peak hours, $9.75 off-peak.

Thats why I am on the express trains. I dont care if I have to get there at 4am. I refuse to stop. Ive even passed out, went to speonk, and came back to babyon.....impressive no?
