AR - Randall Super, 57, Mt. Vernon area, 12 July 2012
MT. VERNON, IL...An Arkansas family is looking for their father, and husband who was last seen in the Mt. Vernon area.
On the morning of July 12, 57-year-old Randall Super left his home in Cove, Arkansas en route to help his mother for a couple of weeks. She lives in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
Super's wife says she heard from her husband later in the evening on that Thursday, when he stopped for the night at the Thrifty Inn in Mt. Vernon.

News article above says he stayed overnight in the Thrifty Inn in Mt. Vernon, IL. He got up the next morning, checked out and went across the street to the Denny's for breakfast. The Denny's camera shows him finishing breakfast, going to the bathroom, then going out to his truck and leaving.
His route to Cleveland likely would have taken him north on I-57 to Indianapolis, then east on I-70 to Columbus, OH, then north on I-71 to Cleveland (have made the trip from Cleveland to Missouri many times).
What could have happened? Health emergency or accident?
This is strange, I hope they find him ok.

The article says he has diabetes. I'm wondering Type I (juvenile, insulin dependent) or Type II (adult onset, taking oral medication).

Randy has type I diabetes. He has, in the past, had a couple of incidents where his sugars bottomed out and he would shut down. His daughter has called all the hospitals near that strip of his journey, and nobody has a Randall Super or even a John Doe...

All,
Randy's family would like to thank you for getting the word out. Right now there is no update. We still have not heard from him but are working with a PI. We are still hoping to hear from him soon. If anyone hears anything about his location please contact the police.
Here is the local news report from Cleveland.

Interesting that his credit cards haven't been used since his disappearance. An earlier news story said he had last filled up his truck with gas in southern Missouri.
If he traveled on to Mt. Vernon, IL from there, he wouldn't have a whole lot of gas left when he left there. It seems he would have needed to fill up his tank before leaving IL or at least soon after crossing the Indiana border.
That might narrow the search area somewhat. I just have a feeling he never got as far as the Ohio border.
Update: This article states his wife says he was spotted around 1:30 pm July 13 in Sims, IL:
http://www.kfvs12.com/story/19029910...t-vernon-area-
Quote:
Elizabeth Super says her husband Randall was positively identified by the postmaster in Sims, Illinois around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Super says the postmaster saw Randall driving by really slowly in his maroon Ford pickup staring at the post office. Super thinks that her husband connected the post office with her because she is the postmaster in Cove, Arkansas.

Here's a map for Sims, IL, on a route from Mt. Vernon, IL to Cleveland, OH
http://goo.gl/maps/dahK
Sims, IL is a diversion from the route he would have taken if heading from Mt. Vernon to Louisville, KY via I-64. It seems possible he was disoriented, having problems with his diabetes.
Holding out hope they find this guy ok.

'We're still looking' for Amherst native Super
A search team of volunteers continues combing an area in southeastern Illinois where Randall Super’s pickup truck was spotted and reported to authorities, said Encie Super, his sister-in-law.

This article states someone may have seen him hitchiking along I-64.

Thursday (July 19) at 11:27 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of North 10th Street told police he may have seen Randall Super. He said he saw a man matching the physical description released trying to hitch a ride south bound from Interstate 64 near Grayville at about 4 p.m.
|
His sister states in the article below that they have expanded the search to include Kentucky and southern Ohio

I hope they find him soon, but it will be more difficult if he has abandoned his truck.

AR AR - Randall Super Update 8/1/2011
It seems that all the sightings thus far have been checked out and proved not to be Mr. Super. There is still great concern that Mr. Super has suffered from complications from diabetes and his family is frantic.
You can read the story here:

Also, please excuse me if this post didn't follow proper protocol for this forum. I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm sure I'll quickly learn the ropes.

Welcome Gamedame
So sorry to hear the newer possible sightings of Mr. Super didn't pan out. Does this mean that the search area is back to Illinois?
This is a very distressing case. I hope they find him soon. Prayers and best wishes to his family and friends.

Hello Everyone,
Yes we are working on re-focusing back to the Mt. Vernon area. We have done a few searches by air and also worked a grid on the roads. We are working with a PI who is leading the investigation. Right now we have still not found any trace of him and his credit cards still have not been used.
We are now trying to reach out to the line men from the utility companies and also are looking in shelters.
We are still hopeful to find him soon. We will not give up.

Thanks everyone for your help

I live in Mt. Vernon, IL and I also have Type 1 Diabetes.. this story has bothered me since I first heard about it. I know how disorienting low blood sugar can be, but even more scary is a high blood sugar due to him running out of insulin or losing his insulin. Everytime I drive around time I find myself looking for his truck. I feel terrible for his family and I really hope he is found soon.

Just wanted to post an update on this... my local police department released this press release today:
"The Mt. Vernon Police Department received information from a motorist driving on Interstate 70 near Terre Haute, IN at approximately the 18mm (in Indiana) that he had observed what appeared to be a bumper of a vehicle protruding from a body of water. He stopped and further investigated and obtained the license plate of the vehicle. He was driving very slowly due to mechanical problems with the veh
icle he was riding in. After he "googled" the license plate he discovered the truck was associated with a missing persons report filed by the Mt. Vernon Police Department. The truck belongs to missing person Randall Super from Cove, AR that was last seen in Mt. Vernon in July. The truck had apparently ran off the road through a fence, struck a tree, rolled over several times and landed in a body of water. The individual described the truck which matched the description of Super's truck as well. MVPD notified Clay County Indiana Sheriff's Department who located the truck and found a body inside. There is an autopsy scheduled today to identify the body and cause of death."
This is very sad news, although it had been several months I was hoping for the best for him.

for his family. I have been checking the fb group regularly and am glad they have resolution before Christmas. I know this has been weighing heavily on them.

Bearcat8711,
Pleases convey our deepest sympathies to Mr. Super's family. We're so sorry the search ended this way. I was just thinking of him last week and was saddened to see there was no news.
Randall seemed like a very nice person. It's a shame it took so long to discover him. In many ways it was a blessing the man who found him happened to be very observant and diligent in identifying the truck.
Heartfelt condolences to Mr. Super's family and friends on their loss. May they treasure many good memories of their time with him.
