Stories of bones found in abandoned wells have a certain, irresistable je ne sais quoi.
Here's a link to the longer Daily Journal article: Bones in hands of state medical examiner

Here's another article with a couple of other pictures made around the mill along with some statements from the photographer who found the bones.

For a moment, I thought this was a duplicate thread.
But earlier this month, a second body was also found in a well in Fancy Gap VA - 150 miles from where this body was found.

Two "bodies in wells" songs from pop culture:
Nick Cave and P.J. Harvey: Henry Lee

“We have two missing person reports that we’re looking at really closely,” said Kelly. “The decomposition of the body gives them a more specific idea of how long ago it occurred.”

My dearest brother recently passed away from ALS (AKA - Lou Gehrig's disease). It is an terrible disease without a cure, without a known cause, and is only diagnosed by elimination of other diseases. He is my hero!! He accepted the fact that he had to endure this disease, and he stayed positive even though I cried many times since he was diagnosed in early 2011. I know that he rests in peace knowing that he lived a good life here; and he will be blessed up there! May I always honor his memory in being a good person too!! I love you big Bro (also known as the gentle giant). 10/25/2012

IIRC, Rockingham isn't all that far from Ft. Bragg.
If someone were heading east say, to I-95 from Ft. Bragg, would that person go through Rockingham?
I am cartographically challenged, so forgive me if I am turned around.

Yep. Backwards. Ft. Bragg is about an hour east of Rockingham.
Still, quite close......

I'm curious as to who the two missing persons are that they referred to in the article. I'm not finding reports of missing persons in that county. Do you guys think they mean in surrounding counties?

That would be my guess. Or do you think maybe they mean a very old MP case?

I looked at the very old ones and didn't see any in that area. They aren't always listed though. The article mentioned the remains floating to the top so I also assumed the remains were recent.

“They were able to get X-rays on a broken bone in his left arm,” said Chief Kelly, “and were able to match them 100 percent.”
Police said [Cecil] Collins’ brother filed a missing person report on the man with the Rockingham Police Department in 2009.

Another case where I didn't find any missing person information online about the victim.
 Rest in peace, Cecil
