NY - Katerina Rikic, 12 years old - Silver Lake - 3-Aug-2012
http://www.silive.com/northshore/ind...ing_in_st.html
Excerpt from Staten Island Advance below:
The NYPD is searching for a 12-year-old girl who went missing Friday night from her home in Silver Lake.
Family and friends are canvassing the neighborhood, and police helicopters are assisting in the search for Katerina Rikic, of 16 Rose Court.
Katerina is described as tall for her age, at 5-feet-8; she weighs 130 pounds. Her reddish-blond hair is shoulder-length. She has a mole on the left side of her face and a birthmark on her elbow.
Pray that she is found safe with friends...

"The office of the NYPD's deputy commissioner of public information said the case is not being treated as an abduction, but rather as a missing persons case. No information was given on what might be behind her disappearance, which was first reported on SILive.com at 11 p.m. Friday."

Maybe they think she is a runaway? This article adds that she was last seen wearing a blue shirt and carrying a Nike duffle bag. It goes on to say that NYPD helicopters shined light in darkened areas last night to aid searchers so they are apparently concerned about her.

Katarina Rikic left her house in Silver Lake (Staton Island) between 5:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Friday. She was last seen approximately an hour later at the intersection of Wallbrook and Delafield Avenues.

Katarina's parents are Milan and Amy Rikic. Milan Rikic is 6'8" and came to the U.S. from Yugoslavia to attend college on a basketball scholarship so I would say that Katarina's height is correct (someone questioned it in the comments section under one of the articles).

it would be about 7pm when she was last seen, so it would take an hour to get back home - 8pm would be getting dark.
Was she allowed out alone when it gets dark?
LE needs to get hold of all the surveillance camera media they can, as that's been key to solving some of the new cases I been following.

Katarina left the family home after an argument with her mother. The grandmother says they have called all her friends but no one has heard from her. Police have set up a command post at Blessed Sacrament School in West Brighton.

I've read two different descriptions of what she was last seen wearing:
1) blue shirt, blue shorts, flip flops and carrying a Nike duffle bag
2) green converse sneakers with purple laces and gray sweatpants

They found her! No details yet - a family friend on FB posted that they found her 8 minutes ago.

Thank you for this great thread.
I was out looking for her yesterday along with over 150 people.
Milan went to college with me, and is a great guy.
Turns out she ran away and was found in South Street Seaport which is a block away from the Staten Island Ferry on the Manhattan side.
Wonderful end to great efforts by good people.
