TX TX - Daniel Underwood, 33, Sulphur Springs, 4 Sept 2008

Welcome donnau,

I am so glad you are here, I just wish it weren't because of such tragic circumstances.

I need to apologize right here, because I haven't read any of the posts on this thread yet, except your first one, but I am in the middle of the part 2 interview video.

How in the world is it plausible that she has a bruise on her leg from the butt of the gun, while in the same sentence she states that they were face-to-face?

The audio is a bit difficult to hear. Are there written transcripts to these interviews?

by Dennis N. Griffin on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 8:00am
On tonight's first segment we'll update the Daniel Underwood case. Daniel died of shotgun wounds on September 4, 2008, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. His death was ruled a suicide. However, Donna Underwood, Daniel's mother, doesn't believe her son took his own life. She'll join us to discuss the latest developments along with Crime Wire Consultant and statement analyst Peter Hyatt. Peter recently analyzed transcripts of statements made to police by Rebecca Nelson, Daniel's live-in girlfriend after the shooting. You can view Peter's report at http://www.crimewiresite.com/danielunderwood.htm

You are still in my prayers Donna.

Seeking Justice for Daniel Underwood

On September 4, 2008, 33-year-old Daniel Ray Underwood, his girlfriend Rebecca Nelson, and a friend, Maria Harvick, were at a bar in East Fork, Texas. The three then went back to the home Daniel and Rebecca shared inSulphur Springs, Texas. According to Maria, once there, Daniel and Rebecca got into an argument and Maria left the room. A short time later she went back into the room and saw Daniel holding a shotgun in his right hand and accusing Rebecca of taking all his money and burying him in debt. Rebecca grabbed the gun and a struggle ensued. Maria again left the room, and a few seconds later she heard the gun go off. When she stepped back into the hallway she saw Daniel fall to the floor, mortally wounded.

Was Daniel’s death an accident, a suicide, or a homicide? The answer might depend on who you talk to and when.
In Rebecca Nelson’s first interview with the police she stated that Daniel bent his head over the gun’s barrel and pulled the trigger, making it an apparent case of suicide.

However, Donna Underwood, Daniel’s mother, isn’t buying that explanation. In her analysis of the police investigation, the statements made by Rebecca Nelson and Maria Harvick, and statements made directly to her by Maria, she believes her son’s death was a homicide.

In her opinion, the police made little effort to learn all the facts surrounding Daniel’s death. And in Rebecca’s second taped interview with the police, mention was made of “work” she did for law enforcement. Donna believes Rebecca may have been a confidential informant and had a relationship with the police that was detrimental to conducting a thorough investigation.

Joining us for the hour is Donna Underwood and Maria Harvick to bring listeners the latest updates about Daniel’s case and where it stands today.

Murphy's Justice is standing up and speaking out for ALL the victims of domestic violence! Susan Murphy is raising awareness against Intimate Partner Abuse each and every day...and,as I've said before, domestic violence has no boundaries as to where it occurs...even in small towns like my own, Sulphur Springs TX, the injustice rolls on...never ending, until someone like Susan stands up for the silenced victims and with their left behind family members; unafraid to tell it like it is!! and in case anyone in this area of Texas doesn't already know...there IS a reason this woman is known as “The Jane Wayne of Justice”, and as the mother of Daniel Underwood, I am truly looking forward to Susan coming to our great state of Texas, and to Hopkins County, in the very near future!! I would like to ask all my friends to PLEASE go to Youtube and watch these two videos and leave comments on both as she prepares to launch a new TV show which focuses excusively on Intimate Partner Violence that occurs across the nation, and for some of us...in our OWN backyards!! (Please mention you would like to see Daniel Underwood's case featured on Murphy's Justice soon!!)

From Susan Murphy Milano's Journal:

State of Texas: Failing Grade in the Murder of Daniel Underwood
The State of Texas refuses to re-open and investigate a murder case in which the coroner stamped the death certificate as a suicide when new evidence and other information points to a calculated cold blooded murder.
On September 4, 2008, Daniel Underwood, 33, of Sulfur Springs, TX was murdered during an argument which took place with his live-in-girlfriend, Rebecca Nelson. According to witness Maria Harvick, Rebecca Nelson had her hand on the trigger and the sawed off shotgun went off.

Hi Donna,

I haven't listened to the interviews yet, but I did view the crime scene photos. The shotgun appears to be obviously tampered with!

I really admire your tireless efforts to find justice for Daniel. He's blessed to have a mama like you. I won't say "don't give up", because I already know you won't!

You've already connected with some good people (Susan Murphy Milano, Peter Hyatt). Have you ever tried to submit Daniel's case to one of the investigative TV shows like '48 Hours'?

Keep fighting the good fight!
