http://www.wfsb.com/story/21641993/vernon-police-investigating-after-human-remains-found

Curiously, 3 girls went missing from the Vernon area and are presumed murdered: Deborah Spickler (1968), Janice Pockett (1973-Tolland), and Lisa White (1974). It's too early to say whether the remains belong to one of them. More info is forthcoming.

In this article, the guy who found the skull says it had fillings in the teeth.

My guess is that it is more recent than 1960's or 1970's if there are still teeth present. I would suspect that a skull that has been out in the weather for 30-40 years would not have any teeth present.

How do they know its its m or f

AFAIK, they don't know. Or at least, AFAIK, they haven't said whether it is M or F.

But if it is male, here are two more recent possibles from Tolland.

It doesn't say this in the article, but on the tv newscast the student described how he found the skull partially buried along the edge of a brook, and there has been a MASSIVE amount of snow melt and heavy rain recently ( about 4 ft of snow over the past month, and heavy rain on Tuesday), so it's possible that the skull had been completely buried and was just pushed above ground recently. There are 183 MP cases for CT, and quite a few of them disappeared from either eastern Hartford or Tolland county, so it could take awhile before an ID is established.

The news article and video have been updated; ME believes the skull to be from a white female in her 30's, and not one of the missing girls, although they are "a number of years" old. This is only a preliminary estimate, however, and may change. COD hasn't been dermined, as only a femur and hip bone have been found so far in addition to the skull. There are 2 women in their 30's missing from East Hartford, which is not far at all from Vernon:

Dawn Amlo:

Geraldine Lisbon (suspected murder victim but next to no info):

Keep in mind, Connecticut is SO small (For those not from New England, the comparison I use is that the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is bigger than CT) that she could really be from anywhere in the state. Or even Mass, RI or NY.

Here are some I dug up, the ones marked with an * are the best matches of the ones I listed.

*Doreen Marfeo (missing from RI, but thought to be in CT)
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/marfeo_doreen.html

Doreen Vincent (probably too young)

April Pennington (Although I doubt it, because she's likely in a lobster pot.)
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/p/pennington_april.html

Maria Anjiras (probably too young)
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/a/anjiras_maria.html

April Grisanti (probably dumped closer to Norwalk, CT)
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/g/grisanti_april.html

Melanie Camilini (probably too recent)

*Mary Badaracco

"I stumbled across a human skull by the brook," he said.

Viens, who is an art student from Manchester Community College, found a human skull, picked it up, brought it to his house and then contacted the authorities.

:noooo:

WHY WOULD HE DO THAT?!?! I literally screamed when I read that part.

And Carl, teeth actually stay in people's skulls for a long time, especially if they were buried.

Example being the skeletons found from the Medieval era. The skulls look like their in such pristine conditions I half wondered through the whole article if those weren't fake ones being "Posed"

New England states are small.

Maura Murray is another possibility.

No idea how to link her thread on the iPad...:please:

You're right. I was thinking that the skull had been exposed, but it says that it was next to a brook that had been subject to recent erosion and snowmelt.

According to the comments that was an old landfill that turned into a housing community in the 90s.

I'm willing to bet it's going to be a fairly old case.

We have had a LOT of snow in CT this year, especially inland. The erosion thing is definitely possible.

Whoa... "at least one human victim"

http://www.courant.com/community/vernon/hc-vernon-remains-update-0318-20130317,0,306854.story

Also from that link, they've brought in the state archaeologist. I'm thinking this case has to be quite old as he is usually only brought it when the body is 50 years old, but sometimes for newer ones. I think until we hear differently, I'm going to concentrate on 1990 and earlier.

I agree. I'll bet it predates the houses, and probably dates to at least the mid 70's when the landfill was cleared. The student mentioned being able to see fillings in the teeth, so the remains probably are not "historic" (i.e. 19th century or colonial era).

I wondered too if they were going to find more sets of remains, if this was a serial killer's dumping ground like in New Britain, but so far, just the one.

Given the theory that the bones have been there a long time, while she is young, Connie Smith was 5'0" when she disappeared, so she was tall for her age...

Julianne Miller
http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/568dfct.html

Rosa Valentin (She is listed as Hispanic, but depending on where she's from her skull could look "white")
http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2702dfct.html

Regina Brown (although she was last seen in NYC)
http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/2218dfct.html

I wonder if this person is even on a missing persons site?

I can't wait for more information to come out so I can make a list. I'm itching to make a list.

also interesting, but likely irrelevant, is the mary badaracco case that someone noted before (http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/badaracco_mary.html) also had a hell's angel's connection...

There are motorcycle gang connections to several of the cases I listed. Maria Anjiras was possibly last spotted with a member of the Charter Oaks Motorcycle Club. That's part of the reason why I listed her. She was spotted in different areas with a biker. And bikers usually have connections across the state, so her body (if she's dead) could be anywhere, really.
