Sex Workers & Truck Drivers: Post Stories Here

OK Heather and my thanks to her. What I know about myself took years for me to say outloud and if I wasn't in truth therapy I would probably never say. I can't say it here but you get the gist. When Heather killed Neal Falls the world then knew what she was and that is a very hard pill to swallow. To Heather I think you are great, my hero in fact. Strong, quick thinker, and a survivor, no matter your lifestyle choices past present or future.

Please everyone what I am trying to do here is give confidences not pity. I certainly don't want or deserve your pity. It is what it is. It is what I chose and I can really not tell you why without writing a book. Escorts and their experiences are the key to some of these cases. Think about it mistakes are made by SKS but do they get reported by escorts? I want to bring some of the unreported here. Believe me when I say that I want them caught as much if not more than the next person but would I be willing to truly admit to the world what I am and I certainly don't want to go to jail in doing so.
Its a very difficult subject and I really hate talking about it. Lol

A large part of the reason why these killers get away with their crimes is because the surviving victims don't report; and the less fortunate often are not reported missing. So I'm very interested to read what you are able to share about the unreported crimes. But don't rush. Share as much or as little as you can comfortably.

The part of the show when that map appeared and the dots kept spreading spooked me. Thanks for providing it dotr:scared::scared::scared:

Thank you Bessie
You're very welcome. So, relevant to Long Island, what do you think about the escorts going on calls without their cell phones, at the customer's request? Does that seem reasonable to you? Something you would have done, yourself?

We need a place to feel comfortable talking about the times we have had knives at our throat or narrowly escaping a sk without realizing it until much later. Myself I dont want le to have a hold on me they dont already have so I wont be reporting to le or fbi my narrow misses but I maybe inclined to talk about them here!

I believe this is a safe place to post personal experiences and close calls. While I was never involved in sex work, drug addictions, etc, I had my own close call with a serial killer.

Without a doubt I was going to be a victim but I fortunately got away from the situation. It was only years later, maybe 20 years later when I was watching a episode of Paula Zahn's On The Case when "my" SK was featured. I never knew the guy's name but I had never forgotten him.

While the episode was going on it mentioned a club I use to go to that caught my attention. That's where I met him at this club. He bought me a drink and we danced. I wasn't there to pick up men, I was there to dance and just have fun. After a couple of dances, he and I went back to our seats at the bar. He tried to engage me in conversation but I was there to dance.

I looked across the bar and saw a really nice looking guy, think MacGyer or 80's Don Johnson. I told the guy I was with that I was going to ask the guy across the bar to dance and the man went ballistic on me. He was stomping his feet, talking about the drink he had bought for me, and was just became so angry at me. I walked away and for the rest of the evening I danced with the MacGyer guy.

Over the years I talked about the guy who became so angry with me for leaving him to dance with another person. It never occurred to me to be afraid of him. But it was while I was watching the show that they showed who this guy was. It was the guy I left at the bar to dance with someone else. He's also since been featured on Dark Minds and is considered a suspect in a unsolved murder back in the 80's. Fortunately he's locked up now and will be for the rest of his life, but it scared me half to death to see him again on these shows.

His name is Edwin "Ned" Snelgrove. His idol Ted Bundy. He still can't be linked to the woman in Newark, NJ back in the 80's but evidence was found that he had been in the area of her apartment. He was just getting started when he was finally locked up for good. When I met him that night he seemed like a really nice guy, decent, normal, until I wanted to leave his company. It still scares me how close I was to becoming one of his victims....

If a "customer" would have asked me to leave my phone I would not have done so even if I said I would. I think the lure of absorbent amounts of money made these girls do things without thinking.

Perhaps their "not thinking" could be related to drug use? Either the drugs altered their way of thinking or maybe went along with it in order to get the money for drugs?

Drugs are very powerful and change what people would do if they were sober. And we know most sex workers use drugs.

Smart girl. Maybe they figured it would not happen to them or like you said maybe didn't think at all being blinded by the $$$. Fear is a healthy companion but maybe it takes something personally terrifying before that really sinks in. [emoji173]

Just thinking out loud... I'm sure some girls use drugs but you have to be pretty coherent, I'd guess, to get the job done. Right? If I had to guess, I might say that girls might start out very safe and cautious and that maybe fades after so many normal dates. One might feel like the danger is very rare, start to loosen up their rules.

Most of the girls I've spoken with over the years prefer to be high when doing what they do to numb out. But I can totally see one being cautious to get her pay then getting what she needs.

As I have said in other posts, I am a truck driver and have experienced the danger first hand at the truck stops with the "lot lizards." My theory on SOME of the cross country cases is as follows: Has anyone concidered the possibility that the sex workers may have had something to do with a portion of these murders. I was attacked at a truck stop in broad daylight as I was fueling my truck. Without warning the sex worker who was very skinny from malnourishment, and in dire straights as they all are. Proceeded to reach in another truck which she was soliciting to, and grab a tire thumper. For those who do not know what that is we carry this often hand made tool consisting of Iron or steel bar with an make shift handle appproxamatly two feet long or more with a club like steel end welded to it for the pupose of checking tire pressure during a pre-trip inspection. Any contact of this tool with the body in any fashion will cause injury and is commonly used as a weapon with deadly results. Fortunatly I was able to defend myself with a similar weapon with out injury and she escaped my retaliation by jumping in to the truck she had been soliciting and he gave her protection and drove away with her. As they drove off she was clearly unaware that her behavior was not normal but a way of life for her. I later found out that her violent behavior was territorial. This being said, if a rival sex worker were to tread on the territory of another it wouldn't be unusual for violence to errupt. Clearly the truck driver was only concerned about his own needs with no regard for her or myself. This mentality coupled with the "no tell" mentality is a cocktail for murder on the road. The sex workers are also traveling across state lines and are very aware of the "dumping grounds," and will do whatever is neccessary to survive to the next stop, including being an accomplice in murder or dumping a body. As I have explained previously, they are also capable of murder. In an effort to protect the interest of the profession, the truck drivers wouldn't think twice about helping to conceal this type of crime and rape is a way of life. Pregnant sex workers are also available and would become a target for the "black market" baby trade since medical attention isn't exactly a concern for this profession. This may have been a factor in the case of the woman found and burried a small distance from her toddler. I am aware of several convicted child molesters who are truck drivers and in a situation where a sex worker was with a client but may have found herself in a situation where she had to protect her child. Resulting in the death of both her and the child. The under belly of this subculture is frightening but has been around for a long time. The sex workers are skilled when it requires flying under the radar and to overlook this possibility would be a mistake.

I think about the cell phones a lot. IMO The reason an escort would agree to go without a cell phone is if the customer is someone they knew and trusted. Someone who, in their mind, did not pose a threat.

What a crazy wild experience! I may have pee'd myself had I been in your shoes.

With as close as some of these are, has anyone looked into some murders (or bodies found) in Canada?

Still learning how to navigate here. I have been a sonographer for 20 years mainly in Baton Rouge LA. I actually worked at Charity when Derrick Todd Lee came in. My friend and co-worker called him in as a suspect as soon as the "white truck" picture was out. She was from St Francisville and was his old classmate. At the time, the cops told her NO, the killer was white. Well, many dead girls later, he said as caught and he WAS the killer... Anyway, I read a ton about crime and such. I found this article to be intriguing...some unsolved murders here and the women were POSED... I am so suspicious of a trucker linking many of these killings along the interstates.

MAYBE. But I know that a few of the LISK victims had drug problems. Opiate withdrawal makes you SO sick, so hopeless, that you'll do things you would never do otherwise if it means you can stave off withdrawal.

Imagine the worst flu you've ever had. Fever, sneezing, snotting, coughing, horrible pain all over. Completely unable to sleep, even with sleeping pills. Cannot rest in one position for more than a minute, because you're either freezing or sweaty as hell. Then imagine the most depressed you've ever been. Add it all together, with restless legs, vomiting, and constant severe nausea. (And if you are taking opiates for pain relief, pile your unmedicated severe pain on top of all the rest.) That's the best way I can describe opiate withdrawal. It is harrowing.

NOW imagine that you can feel almost 100% better immediately if you simply take another dose. THAT'S why opiate addiction is so pernicious, and most people keep using just to NOT be sick, rather than to get high. Many addicts who do bad things (like stealing) or dangerous things (like prostitution) for money are motivated almost entirely by the horror of withdrawal.

Of course, "absorbent amounts of money" (good term Stacieinsac!) are a powerful motivator in itself, addiction or not.

In any case, these women's instincts were probably correct, they knew this offer was "off," but they couldn't turn it down, they would be kicking themselves thinking what if the offer were true. Probably rationalized it to themselves somehow, that a murderer wouldn't have so much money to spend, even if they didn't know if the john actually had the money or not. They wanted so badly for it to be true, to get paid so much money for one customer.

(Sorry if this stuff with the withdrawal description seems off-topic, but I want everyone to understand that certain victims' actions make more sense than they seem to on the surface. "How stupid WAS she, how could she think that was a good idea!" is NOT a helpful way to look at this, IMO.)

Excellent post ^. Drugs do take over the body and the mind.

Maybe the women were offered lots of drugs, not money?

I was a sex worker at the age of twenty in 2000. Not because of drugs but because I had no skills to earn money & was expected to go to college full time by my parents. I had no money for food or rent. At first I thought it was just stripping, then letting a man masturbate to me, and then I was raped. After that I did not care about myself at all. I would drive myself out to country sides completely alone with only my cell phone. One night I met a man named Phill in Medford Oregon on a call, way out in the boondocks at his camper. He wanted a sex slave, and that was what I became. It was harrowing. This man was evil to the core. After he was done with me he told me he had hepatitis C. Thankfully I didn't contact it. Was this a form of mental torture? Yes. Phil was a pilot for United Airlines. Actually, he at one point even managed the Medford airport. I escaped that life and am now married to a police officer of all things. I'm truly blessed. I will never forget coming in contact with the many monsters that I did. I hope this gives some insight on sex workers.
