There was quite a bit of speculation locally that the victim had staged this in order to run away with a boyfriend. I'm so glad that LE took this seriously and didn't just chalk it up to a staged runaway. I'll bet the perps were willing to grab whomever opened the door. Very scary!

The two suspects don't sound too bright to me. That car was very distinctive. Which is a good thing.
As police were able to find the girl.

I'm very glad this wasn't a set up. Good job, LE!
Very happy to hear Melissa is home safe with her family.

People find it hard to believe because kidnapping for ransom is very rare in US. But not so rare in Mexico.

I actually have a coworker who has a cousin in Mexico who was kidnapped for ransom. He just happened to be riding with a friend from a wealthy family. My coworker said her family had to raise and pay $50,000 for his return. So, I would definitely believe a kidnapping for ransom if the perps were Mexican or from other countries near there.
I really am interested in the follow up on this.

Ayep, and even burning it was a stupid thing to do.
The getaway car was distinctive as it was red with a blue front end, police said, and it was captured by a security camera of a neighbor of the Duran family on Friday morning.
An Amber Alert was issued along with a description of the car, and it was later found burned east of Las Vegas.
It appears the suspects had attempted to destroy evidence by burning the car, police said, but detectives were able to trace the car to the Las Vegas apartment complex where the teenager was rescued.

All said, I'm so happy she was found alive and unharmed (at least, physically).

Melissa Duran speaks out about her abduction

This girl sounds like a very brave young lady. I hope those kidnappers receive the appropriate sentences.

Kidnapping suspects may have ties to human trafficking
http://www.ktnv.com//168547036.html
Also inside the apartment, police say they found both suspects had numerous ID cards and bills "believed to be payments for human trafficking."
Thank goodness that LE was able to rescue this girl in about 24 hours or who know what these guys would have done.
