Not after they pay their taxes...

And they live still with 3.05 respectively 3.09 persons average in a household too. Which means, wife is still p***** if hubby goes out to the hookers. Maybe we should check for a rich person with frequent hospital records caused by blunt force trauma with skillets and rolling pins?

I don't understand why most here are so quick to eliminate Brewer as the SK of the 4 prostitutes. I still believe it's him. I do think the other victims were killed by someone else for sure. And I feel certain that Brewer disposed of Gilbert elsewhere knowing she was linked directly to him.

Uhhh ... if I sort that out correctly, ypou say, the GB4 are killed by someone else (commonly referred to as LISK or LISK2) and Brewer was invovlved only in the Shannan Gilbert Case. Which brings you in the same point as everybody else here. Only, there is not much to talk about SG yet, since we don't have a body and an dump site in that case. Unless, you have a new idea how to pin down this connection, I can't see, how to proceed there. Which proves once more, how important ideas are despite the rather unfriendly attention they can attract. So if you have any idea, please post it anyway.

From your link for Nassau County (which I don't think the perp is from, btw):

Median household income, 2009 $92,221

Here's Suffolk County's:
Median household income, 2009 $82,984

That's all fine, okay, I had the wrong line. But after 20k property taxes and so on, it's also not that much anymore. I can't estimate, how many prostitutes work in the wider area, but alone the extensive advertisement indicates a competition situation.
And a lot of people live in family situations, so they can't just go regularly to prostitutes. Over half of the population is anyway female. And a share of the male population are kids.
The most unreasonable thing in this whole argumentation is anyway the idea, that every male above some income HAS to go to prostitutes. And not only HAS to go to prostitutes but to lower class Craigslist escorts.
And if LI would be really hooker's paradise, why did Megan Waterman and her pimp Cruz travel all the time between NYC and LI instead of just setting camp up there all year round? Why had Maureen-Brainard-Barnes a hotel room at 46th Street and not on LI?

Megan Waterman and her pimp Cruz traveled from MAINE not from NYC to LI.

When the first profile was created, it said that the SK may have had law enforcement training. I think there's perhaps a stronger case for military training given the SK's expert use of cell phone technology. Someone in Iraq or Afghanistan would pretty much have all the knowledge required to avoid detection by law enforcement. There also seems to be a link between serial killing and the military. Nice and true, but the level of expertise of this SK didn't get that far. He used the victims phone for less than three minutes each. But in crowded areas like Times Square. So it's not the time you need to ping, that is relevant but the simple number of people with cells at their ears that makes it impossible to pinpoint him there. That is knowledge, everyone gets free into the house every night with CSI, Law and Order, Criminal Minds and Co. He didn't use a disposable, he used the victim's cell.

"Grossman (1996) stated that today, the military uses various training methods to increase the killing rates of servicemen, including brutalization, classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and role modeling."

Well, in fact, militaries do that since about 7000 years. But of course about every twenty years, there is a new hype about they finally found the absolute recipe ... which normally it is a lot but not final.
I think, but its' now two decades since I was discharged, the basic problem is, that you send young people to warzones. It's not easy to explain how life is there, but the basic parameters are, even on a day, nothing happens, nobody really relaxes because it could change any moment. And after a while, beginning with dead enemies and then with dead buddies, it appears as if the time you have till you leave is endless and there is no chance you can make it. Of course, your conscious part says, a lot of the others make, have done it already in fact, but the feeling is different. And to realx, even only for some valuable hours, you suddenly need pills, alcohol or drugs. Some parties become excessive. But even more dangerous is eating it all in oneself.
And then, one day, you are back in the world and everything is somewhat slower, a little bit less colorful and you think, you are surrounded by people, who have no idea but want to know. And you have no words to express that in completeness. It's like a part of you never really found home. Diagnosing PTSD is so easy, but to understand it is a different story. And this all has nothing to do with training. You need no training to get brutalized in a war zone. The belief in being the worst bad *advertiser censored* around is sometimes the only thing holding you alive. And then you come home as a real sick bad *advertiser censored*.

...Killing in the military or eliminating the enemy threat is deemed an essential survival tool. Servicemen are positively reinforced for this behavior. Servicemen also are exposed to the interactions of other servicemen being reinforced for their behavior. Grossman (1996) discussed this in his study, contending that the military uses positive role modeling and that the role models usually represent people who personify violence and aggression."

Can be, everything is now different. Every new generation tells the generation before, now it's all different and that's not different between clerks, cops, waiters and soldiers. It's called generation conflict. The point Grossman made is the group dynamic (the sacrosanct badass I mentioned above). And from my personal experience, I think, he got there a core factor. But especially in the last decades, military is much more drilled also in military law (distinctions who to kill and who not) and also rules of engagement. To kill the right target is reinforced positively, the wrong one, well, that can become an embarrassing story. And sometimes, of course, nobody wants to know too detailed what happened.
The role model discussion of Grossman is, in my opinion too generalized. I know, you talk here implicitly about a sniper and for snipers, black ops units and probably to a degree also Marines, his model of role modelling is pretty consistent with what I remember (I wasn't in the US military but worked together with them). However, Grossman forgets about the group dynamic counter effects like honor codes and unit codes.
So, in this special case, I would rather expect someone, who, if he was in the military (there is a probability for that), made it unrecognized through the psychological selection process for such training. The usual combination would be sniper/explosives. Militaries all over the world have a hard time, to filter out the psychopaths from the volunteers.

"...The "military theory" has been proposed as an explanation for why serial murderers kill, as some serial murderers have served in the military or related fields. According to Castle and Hensley, 7% of the serial killers studied had military experience...

Here it goes funny. Happens sometimes, if psychologists use mathematics. In the US and Canada probably about 7% (Calste and Hensley studied only a small number) have military experience. That means
a.) 93% have none
b.) Since over all wars and so on, we have in the meantime about 12% veterans, the number of 7% would be lower than the statistical expectation.
I have only a number for 2000, but with some searching 2010 shoudl be somewhere to: http://www.census.gov/prod/2003pubs/c2kbr-22.pdf

...Among modern serial killers who have some background or experience in the military are some notable examples. David Russell Williams was a colonel in the Canadian Air Force who escalated from panty heists to serial rape to serial murder.[105]

Only Russel never flew combat missions. The nearest, he ever came to war, was camp commander in Dubai. His real traumatic experience would have been in Canada, where he was Wing Commander in Trenton. But that was already in 2009 and he was already three years killing. And the profile of dozens of petty thefts over a long time before he started first panty heists then rapes and then developed into killing is very similar to a lot of SKs which didn't serve in any military.

Robert Lee Yates killed prostitutes in Washington state while he was in the U.S. Army.

I'm not familiar with that case and can't find details, so I can't say too much here.

Serial killer Randy Steven Kraft killed U.S. Marines after he was discharged for mental health reasons; he reasoned: "If I couldn't be a Marine, they can't either".[103]

In fact, he was gay and also dependent on Valium for stomach aches and migraines (and don't ask me who gave him Valium for that). After the Air Force (and he was kicked from the Air Force, not the Marines) found out, they discretely discharged him honorably for "health reasons". So he came with problems to the military and had later still the same ones, only he had focused them on soldiers. Notable in this case is also a wide gap between what he did and what he confessed. Not always can one take the confessions of SKs as gold.

Jeffrey Dahmer served in the U.S. Army as a Combat medic until he was medically discharged.

Only Dahmer started to kill a long time before he joined. And he had also his drinking problem already earlier. When it was noticed, he got discretely discharged for "health reasons". That was the usual practice then and is partially still.

John Reginald Christie served in the British Army during World War I, and later served in the London Metropolitan Police during World War II.

Now, that's a funny one! It was WWI. Almost every male in a usable age had been drafted, which, if Castle and Hansley would be right with their suspicions, that the quota of SKs under the male population after WWI and then again after WWII should have been nearly 100% in Europe. But in fact, we can only guess (they didn't write down statistics about SKs back then). Since there are in the first five years after those wars the number of active SKs was in fact surprisingly low and of those we know were a lot of common criminals in the black market, I would assume, that the real psychopaths had caught themselves some bullets during the wars (they tend sometimes to idiotic actions under pressure).

Dennis Nilsen was a cook with the British Army, and later served in the Metropolitan Police and the civil service.[106]

In fact, Nilsen started to kill in 1978, five years after he was discharged on his own request.

Few of these individuals experienced combat situations during their military careers; some exhibited mental or behavioral problems separate from or prior to their military experiences."

In fact ALL of the cases, I recognized from this list came to the military with personality disorders or other mental diseases and had them still when they were discharged or caught.
The problem, I see with Castle and Hensley is, that if any other professional group would have a quota of SKs according to their share in the population, it wouldn't be worth a study. But the military is always nice, even the quota is in fact lower than the share of the veterans in the population. Which makes Castle and Hensley rather proponents of a political correct anti-militaristic approach than accurate. But then, since I served the country I was born in, I don't even claim to be entirely objective in that.

[/QUOTE]

Of course he did! Once a psychopath is in, he is normally tough, not hampered by too much emotion and obeys also dirty orders without ethical objections. And other kinds of SKs, without a significant anti-social personality disorder have also reasons to be good at what they do in the military. Remember Berkowitz, the Son of Sam? He searched there a replacement for his messed up family, the same as he did later in the weirdest circles he could find.

Great Sleuthing inspectrgadget! Hitting the thanks button just wasn't enough and I look forward to reading all the information you linked.

I've heavily considered the military angle for this SK due to the ongoing training received for tech/information gathering. We have discussed the possibility of the GB4 being stalked. What if SK was stalking them electronically? There are apps for tracking people. I saw a news story about a man who bought such an app and found out his wife was indeed cheating. This may be why he coerced MW and ALC to leave behind their cell phones as the technology that he enjoyed access to in '07 (MBB) and '09 (MB) had become public in 2010 and he was scared their pimps/bfs could be tracking them as well.

Just some thoughts I have been throwing around in my mind.

OT In the Valley of Elah starring Tommy Lee Jones is a good portrayal of the callousness and disregard of human life by some members of the military.

Inspector,

I didn't want to give too much information on here but this guy is a local cop who is also in the reserves. He was full-fledged military before he became a cop. He had a stint in 2008 which could explain the lull in activity. He also just had a stint in Afghanistan that he just got back from so that could explain why he was quiet this summer but he probably would have slowed his activity anyway just because of all the pressure and not too mention that I am sure that escorts have their guard up now.

His reserve job in the military involves chauffeuring high ranking officials around. Almost like a bodyguard.

The stories I have heard aren't too crazy. Just that he likes to go on domestic calls where a wife and husband are having a fight, or a woman is fighting with her boyfriend. And he likes to hit on the female at the domestic call. I think he tells them that he will keep an eye on them while he is on duty but he can also stop by after he gets off duty if she likes. He has had a couple of women take him up on this offer and he has scored with them. And he like to brag about it with his coworkers.

All of his coworkers know that he is a complete whack job. I've seen the guys facebook profile and he is definitely a nut from what I have seen.

Just my opinion on this;

An intelligent, organized serial killer would NEVER EVER in a million years kill a potential victim if somthing went wrong and the potential victim ended up beeing on the phone with the police, AND there were several witnesses that knew that he, the SK, was the last "john" that this postetial victim had served and that the potential victims 911 call was started up at HIS own house.

Just wouldn´t happen IMHO.

Here are a cupple of quotes from newsreports concerning the profile of the Long Island Serial killer:

"authorities tell CBS News the presumed serial killer is likely white, between 25 and 40, intelligent and street-smart"

"The perpetrator is classified by serial-killer experts as an organized killer"

But you have a real connection between him and the case?

No Peter, I have absolutely no connection between him and the case. And I'm not even saying that he is a POI. All I'm saying is him or someone like him would be a perfect candidate. He works in LE. He is a reservist who had stints in Iraq and Afghanistan. He could have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This could explain the quiet periods such as 2008 and this summer.

It's not just this guy. I am sure there are more of them out there that are very similar. I play a certain sport against cops on a regular basis and some of them are really pieces of S! They think that that badge entitles them to carte blanche to do whatever they want.

Unless he HAD TO because she found corpses/torture chamber which in the case of Shannan its clear she knew the SK was going to kill her maybe she was right. And look, he's gotten away with it so far

Ah what would make the girls take no precautions when going out to work...the driver! Its been in our faces all along

It reminds me of Timothy Bindner's hobby of repairing broken gravestones. The hobby gave him a perfect excuse to spend countless hours each week hanging out near his victims. It is believed that he buried his victims at the bottom of freshly dug graves, under the coffins that contained the corpse of the person listed on the gravestone.
Speaking of Bindner, here are some excerpts from an old 2002 article that is no longer on the ABCNews site but has been cached on a couple of web sites ( link )

Vanished: Missing
Girls Mystery
Sympathetic Stranger or Suspect?
Tim Bindner describes himself as a good Samaritan. (ABCNEWS.com)

Jan. 16 — Three days after 7-year-old Amber Swartz disappeared from her Pinole, Calif., yard in June 1988, a stranger came by to tell her mother that he had been searching the nearby woods for the little girl.

[...]

Five months later, another little girl, 9-year-old Michaela Garecht, disappeared in Hayward, a nearby town. Bindner showed up again, asking Michaela's mother if he could help find her daughter. Michaela had been abducted while buying candy with a friend, who heard a muffled cry and turned around to see her friend being kidnapped by a white male.

[...]

Birthday Greetings From a Stranger

Bindner's name surfaced again in the Nikki Campbell investigation. Months before Nikki disappeared, a worried couple in the same Fairfield neighborhood told police their 12-year-old daughter was getting odd mail, with the letters written backward so they could only be read in a mirror.

The person who had sent the letters was Bindner, a 43-year-old married man who worked at a sewage treatment plant. It turned out Bindner had been writing to lots of young girls, often sending birthday greetings.

[...]

'Accumulation of Coincidence'

[...]

Bindner once wrote a letter to law enforcement speculating that the next girl to disappear would be 9. Then, 9-year-old Michaela disappeared. On another occasion, Bindner sent a Christmas card to an FBI profiler with an image of a little girl holding up four fingers. Shortly after, 4-year-old Nikki disappeared.

Police bloodhounds also picked up Amber Swartz's scent at Angela Bugay's gravesite, which Bindner often visited. Police said dogs later picked up Nikki's scent at the gravesite.

[...]

Investigators in the Nikki Campbell case questioned Bindner, and named him a suspect in 1992. But bloodhound evidence is too unreliable to be presented in court, and prosecutors never found evidence to support criminal charges against Bindner. Next month, another man goes to trial on charges that he murdered Bugay.

Delivering Little Girls to Jesus

[...]

When she asked what he thought happened to the girls when they were taken, Goldston remembers him saying: "'Well, you know, one of them was sweet and shy and didn't say a thing, but the other went kicking and screaming.'" Then, she said, he added, "'I'm just guessing that that's what they would have said.'"

[...]

A Taunting Game?

Goldston said it seemed he was purposely toying with both investigators and reporters. "Whether he is the person who took the girls, I don't know," she said, "but I felt that he went out of his way to make me think that he had."

Kim Swartz, who had developed a bizarre friendship with Bindner at the urging of police, agreed that it seemed to be a game to Bindner.

"He was walking that fine line, knowing exactly where he can go with it," she said."I think he was getting off on taunting me and my family."

[...]

A Good Samaritan

Bindner refused to be interviewed on camera, but he agreed to speak with ABCNEWS off camera.

He said he was simply trying to help find the missing girls, and described himself as a good Samaritan. In fact, Bindner does have a record of helping others: He was given an award for heroism by the California Highway Patrol for assisting in the rescue efforts after the 1989 earthquake. He continues to insist that he had nothing to do with the girls' disappearances.

[...]

Philpin said that in some of the cases neither he, nor Swartz, nor any of the investigators have been able to rule Bindner in as a supsect or rule him out.

"It's a stalemate," said Philpin. "In the end, all the pieces of this particular puzzle just don't come together."
There are quite a few folk, to include a few LE types, here in the bay area who remain convinced the guy is guilty as sin. And yet, here we are, going on nearly 30 years, some of the cases remain unsolved, and Bindner remains free as a bird.

Just my opinion on this;

Well, the profiles, the FBI gives to the media are not always the same ones, they really work with. So we have to see, what comes up there, if anything.
The other question is, is SG connected to the GB4? It's hard to say it, till we have a body. If she was strangulated and wrapped in burlap, the answer would be clear, of course. But till then, we just don't know.
One thing, modern profilers seem to forget all the time is, that MO and also degree of organization can change due to the phase in which the SK is and influences from his daily life. Ted Bundy had a relative high degree of organization in Washington (State) but in Utah, he went for a little time totally desorganized, regained control, changed MO back to strangulation and also to more organization. But later, after his escape from prison, he laid low for some weeks (which is organized behavior) only to explode then and attack the Sigma Chi house and another girl in another location. From that point on, he had changed basically in a pretty low organized killer of opportunity. And if Ted Bundy could, others can too.

It's not just this guy. I am sure there are more of them out there that are very similar. I play a certain sport against cops on a regular basis and some of them are really pieces of S! They think that that badge entitles them to carte blanche to do whatever they want.

GoathairJones, with this, you could be absolutely right. There are good and bad cops everywhere, I think. My personal experiences with US cops were good, but then, I am originally from Germany and that may explains a lower expectation in the first place.
About the military angle, I wouldn't dismiss that. Joining the military at least enforces to face the own ability to kill, which also for an SK would be an important step in his psychological development. But as pointed out in my response to InspectorGadget, with 7% of SKs having military pasts (and even those connection is already pretty stretched by Castle and Hensley) and 12.7% veterans, it's rather under the statistical expectance. But then, if someone would catch a serial killing baker, it would be, as far as I know, only the second one, while the share of bakers in the population is much higher than 2 out of 320 millions. So, it can be, in general and especially LE had always a higher statistical quota of killers than the general population. But in this special case, all murders happened between June and September. A cop would be there all the time unless deployed. So, if there would be anything pop up, it would be possible, but right now, I don't see enough to go with.

Unless he HAD TO because she found corpses/torture chamber which in the case of Shannan its clear she knew the SK was going to kill her maybe she was right. And look, he's gotten away with it so far

But killing in self-defense, and that would what the SK would have done in that case, doesn't establish IQ and organization in the first place. It would be an incident which doesn't enable anything to say about his attributes in this aspect.

Ah what would make the girls take no precautions when going out to work...the driver! Its been in our faces all along

She had used Pak's driving services in the past. So to make this stick, you would have to find also an earlier connection between Pak and Brewer or one of the other victims. As of yet, SG and all around her exist kind of on an island.

I take it, bring him in and play during the interrogation in his fantasy would be called "entrapment" by defense attorneys?
