Hmmmmm....NFL star, Ray Rice was charged (and convicted) with punching out his fiance in an elevator back in February. He was caught dragging her unconscious body out of the elevator. His team ultimately suspended him for two games.

Now, TMZ has released a video from the elevator, showing the attack. (The video of him dragging her out of the elevator had previously been made public.) Lo and behold, today the Ravens cut Ray Rice from the team. They knew he knocked her unconscious, but only now that a video is released of the actual incident, are they taking more substantive action. What changed?

Seems that they acted today for PR reasons....not for any moral reasons.

Ironically (?) his fiance ended up marrying him.

I won't link the actual video. It's easily found, but I felt like I was a voyeur into someone else's personal life. I guess it's a good thing there were video cameras in the hotel where the incident happened...otherwise it surely would have been brushed under the rug.

Even the previous video that was released - showed his lack of concern for her and he dropped her on her face. I could NOT believe that.
I hope she is safe now.

On May 20, Rice was accepted into a one-year pretrial intervention program to avoid aggravated assault charges.
Three days later, Rice’s now-wife posted her own tweet.

“Janay Rice says she deeply regrets the role that she played the night of the incident,” she wrote.

(Did she always write in the 3rd person?) The Ravens retweeted it.

How sad.
And, according to the illustrious :)facepalm:) NY Daily News, the Baltimore Ravens have now deleted their tweet.

I wonder if his soon-to-be wife had the opportunity to see the elevator video before she married him. His lack of empathy is fairly telling.

I am from Baltimore and I am a die hard Ravens fan. As a family, we own several Ray Rice jerseys which won't he getting any wear ever again.

When the original video surfaced, it showed him dragging her from the elevator and it was said that he hit her. However, there wasn't anything to say exactly what happened and many of us were led to believe it was some drunken pushing/slapping between the two of them, not some full fist punching to the head and spitting on her before that. At the PC they had a while back, Janay apologized for her actions that night as well. She was arrested for assault when it happened so the whole she was hitting him thing that was going around seemed believable.

After the new video, however, there is no question as to what happened. He deserves whatever ban and punishment he gets. The way he treated on the video, I am sure that is not the first time he has hit her and sadly it won't be the last time. I am truly sickened by how many fans are reacting. They are mad that he got fired and banned. The things they are saying are disgusting. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction for the NFL and that people know that domestic violence will not be tolerated.

My 13 year old son is devastated. Ray Rice is his favorite, well was his favorite. He looked up to Rice because of his stance on bullying and the programs for anti-bullying that he created. My son wants to burn his Rice jersey because he said Ray Rice is the biggest bully there is.

Wow! you must be a fantastic parent!
It's so tough to step away from an idol. (Not just for kids, but for us adults as well.) Tell your son that he is amazingly mature and has his head screwed on straight. There aren't many 13 year old kids who could come to that conclusion so quickly!

(BTW, my young adult son has been a Ravens fan for years as well. His idol is Ray Lewis, one of the 'moral leaders' of the NFL...who had a controversy all his own. And now Ray Lewis, is being quoted as saying he will provide advice to Ray Rice. I think the entire NFL needs a moral reset.)

Hersh's, a pizza place in Baltimore, is offering free pizza in exchange for Rice jerseys.

Dear Lovers of Women, Not Hitting Women, Non Violence and Just Generally Being a Good Person,
Come trade your Ray Rice Ravens Jersey in for a free pizza at Hersh's. These jerseys will save us money on toilet paper this week.

They are also donating $2.70 to the House of Ruth for each jersey turned in to them. Hopefully more places follow suit to turn something negative into something positive.

I am hoping for a jersey buy back like the Patriots had for Hernandez jerseys. They are expensive...

Hi Everyone,

As difficult as it is in this case please refrain from name calling. That goes for the perp as well.

Thank You,
Tricia

Would you please tell your son, that he is now, MY hero. :)

I'm really surprised she married him, (I believe it was the next morning) I wonder if she was in shock? I wonder how she feels now, after seeing how he treaded her afterwards.

If she did or did not she see that video she still married him...sooner than planned
They couple had planned to be married in the summer of 2014 but moved the date up to March 2014
They married the day after he was indicted for aggravated assault.
He applied for a First time offender program and avoided going to trial

May 1: Rice rejects plea deal, applies for pretrial intervention program

Rice rejected a plea offer that would have spared the running back jail time in exchange for completing probation and undergoing anger management.

Instead, he pleaded not guilty and applied for a program for first-time offenders that could clear him of charges in as few as six months. The program would require Rice to stay out of trouble and attend regular counseling.

Rice was accepted into the program earlier this week, allowing him to avoid trial.

She put out a statement

Wife defends Ray Rice, slams media

"I woke up this morning, feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend," Janay Rice wrote in an Instagram post. "But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare itself. No one know the pain that the media & unwanted options from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret everyday is a horrible thing.

"To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his *advertiser censored* off for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happines away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!"
"Hurt beyond words."

I could hardly watch the video.
As he seemed to not care at all she was knocked out.
He seems to have dragged her not taking care to do no further injuries to her.
If she had died...
and she very well could have he could have broken her neck.
All of it is just hard to watch and even harder to understand how a strong man can do such a horrible thing to a woman.

The thing is it was such a quick wedding.
I am not surprised she married him. Women feel special being with celebs.

One of the local news stations posted a story about this on facebook today. I feel like they are victim blaming and the comments just make me mad.

Ray Rice and Janay Palmer can be heard shouting obscenities at each other, and she appears to spit in the face of the three-time Pro Bowl running back right before he throws a brutal punch in a video shown to The Associated Press by a law enforcement official. The video, shown to the AP Monday night, includes audio and is longer than the grainy TMZ Sports video released earlier that day.

WOW! I did not know how young he is. I sure hope he has a degree in something, seems like his football days are over. Oh well, he is certainly old enough to know what he did was wrong, I'm sure he knew it was wrong way before he did. I wonder if this was the first time he did this, or was it just the first time he got caught. AND he has a daughter :(

No matter how long I live I will never understand these women. He beat bleep out her and She's mad at everyone
else.

I am glad the NFL finally took a stand, even if they were forced into it.

The marriage may last as long as it takes for him to get a lesser sentence. Then, god willing, it will end in divorce. I just hope his anger is not taken out on the victim, but I wouldn' t bet money on it.

He didn't graduate. He left early for the NFL. I am a huge Rutgers fan, and I remember us all yelling "One more year!" during his last game.

I see so many comments on other sites saying "It was a one time thing!" yet whenever we hear about a woman in an abusive relationship, people always criticize her for not leaving right away.

Exactly!!! I don't understand why she married him.
Why would ANYONE put up with that abuse???
Maybe this was the way their relationship was behind closed doors, maybe she wanted the life that his money could buy?
She is very upset that her lifestyle has changed, i.e. him losing his job...
And for her to say that if people's intentions were to hurt or embarrass them take all the happiness away...well....hmmm.....
To me, showing the TRUE ABUSE that she endured on the video is PROOF for those people who live this kind of life and need desperately to leave.
Maybe for those abused, seeing this video will be the IMPETUS for them to LEAVE their abusive relationship.
Maybe she feels ashamed and looks like a fool for staying with and marrying this man. Maybe that's why she is mad at the public. She married him, knowing
the life she could have and now it is gone. Well, lady, HE caused it, Not the public!
IMOO.
