A 12-year-old Harris County girl has telephoned her mother since she left home five days ago but sheriff's deputies want to know where Maria Serrano is and who she's with.
"Aside from the fact that she's a 12-year-old who's been missing for five days, we have some concerns that she may be exposed to a harmful environment," sheriff's Lt. John Martin said today.
Any adults who are housing the girl may be guilty of harboring a minor runaway, Martin said.
Serrano's mother last saw her Saturday at her home in the 14600 block of Henry Road in north Harris County, Martin said. The girl told her mother she is with friends but investigators don't know who those friends are, he said.
Anyone with information about Serrano is asked to call the Harris County sheriff's missing persons unit at 713-755-7427.
