GUILTY NE - Kerra Wilson, 8, Mitchell, 21 Sep 2011

The search continues tonight for a missing Mitchell girl last seen at 8 a. m. this morning.

Police say 8 year-old Kerra Wilson was dropped off at Mitchell Elementary School this morning, but hasn't been seen since.

Her teachers reported her absent at 8:15 this morning, according to a counselor at Mitchell Elementary.

I firmly believe schools should notify parents as soon as the child is marked absent. A whole day is lost before LE can start searching for a missing child! I get a phone call (recorded) at 7:30 at night when my son is absent. why can't they do that immediately? Wait, I know, I know MONEY :maddening:

I contacted 8 local newspapers. The only one that already had the story was the Torrington Telegram. At least one has picked it up. I am hoping that some of the bigger media outlets will run the story.

Thank You, Kai!
I sent an e-mail to Nancy Grace and HLN (and a tweet)
I always sit here wishing I could do so much more!!

Do we know if she lives in rural Sioux County?

Who does she live with?

Does her Mom work outside of the home?

Does her stepfather work in Mitchell? Is that why he was dropping her off?

Does she have siblings?

Does she have contact with her biological father? Is he in Mitchell?

Has she ever run away? Would she get in a car with strangers?

What grade is she in? Does she like going to school?

Has there been any reported incidences with someone trying to grab kids in
the vicinity of the school?

Is the picture a picture of Kerra as an 8 year old?

I also am worried about this child. Prayers to Kerra and her family.

Yes, Deelyful1, and it looks like they didn't call mom until 12 noon....:banghead:

With emails and computers this is simple to do in less then 5 minutes....
Why didn't they call her at 8:05 when she wasn't in class...

SHE IS 8 YEARS OLD!!!

Okay... I don't know if this was discussed but I just had to express my disbelief and anger...
NO AMBER ALERT WAS ISSUED?????

OMG... why do we bother having them? This would be a perfect situation!

Amber Alerts are never issued when there is not a description of an abductor and/or vehicle. This is standard but it varies by state.

Now, why didn't they do a reverse 911 call to the surrounding areas? THIS baffles me.

I Thought she had a red streak or streaks in her hair?Didn't I read that in an article
somewhere. They need to put out that picture.

The girl is described as 4-foot-2 and 78 pounds. She has brown, shoulder-length hair with red stripes in it.

Another link re the red stripes.....If this info is current, it should be out there....

Or use the Scott Bluff Code Red system....?

I can kind of make out some red in her hair in this picture.

I believe the main criteria of Amber Alert system is you have to have a vehicle description or a discription of person/suspect for motorists to watch out for and not often does that happens it seems. It is frustrating and such a shame.

Her Kerra Missing facebook page has a picture with description brown hair and right under the picture the description is blonde hair. I've also read the red stripes in hair and I've seen pictures where her hair looks really dark so I'm confused as to what color her hair is.

It looks like the timeline is:

8:00 am dropped off at school by Step-Father

8:15 am school marked her absent

12:00 noon school called parents

3:00-4:00 pm Grandmother reported her missing ( this was stated on FB so take it with a grain of salt)

ETA, There is a MSM link that confirms Grandmother reported at 3:00pm

Please correct this if anyone finds it not correct...:innocent:

I want to know if the school actually TALKED to her parents (or anyone!) at 12 pm when they called. I know sometimes the attendance reports are just notices left on answering machines/voicemails. If the school actually spoke to a human at noon, then what in the world were the parents or relatives doing in between 12 and 3 when police were contacted? Why weren't police called ASAP?

I have often thought we should have something when an Amber Alert does not meet criteria.....like.....

Missing Child Alert with a number behind which would indicate the age of the child and then the sex of the child....

I think we don't know that yet, but those automated things are useless in a situation like this. If a child doesn't show up for school and the parents are working then the parents most likely wouldn't get a message anyway until later in the day.

My BF's son's schools automated service leaves messages in the evening as well (high school).
