He was born in Pittsburg on April 5, 1951, the second child born to his parents, but he had "considerable emotional conflict with his parents during his formative years," Reno psychiatrist Lynn B. Gerow Jr., who examined him for the court, wrote in a Dec. 20, 1976, mental evaluation.
He graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1969, and he testified during his trial that within a month of graduation he had been introduced to marijuana. A month later he tried LSD.
He was arrested for possession of both in 1969, he testified, and was sent to Contra Costa County's Clayton Farm facility.
In 1972, he married his high school sweetheart. His wife, who he proudly testified at trial was "beautiful," was a casino dealer in Reno. He was married to her the night he walked out of the shadows of a convenience market near South Lake Tahoe and tapped on the windows of Callaway's blue Pinto.

Californian,

This entry in your timeline might need to be corrected:

-Garrido re-incarcerated in CA from April to August 1993 for a parole violation.

*According to this article he was on home confinement.*

http://www.mercurynews.com/crime/ci_13246289

The period encompasses the teenage years when Dugard bore two girls by Garrido, police say. During that time, records show Garrido served a period of supervised home confinement in 1993, likely from a violation of his federal parole, said Felicia Ponce, a spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Prisons.

More possibilities to add to the time line:

Here are girls who went missing from the area between 1991 - present

Melissa Espinoza (http://charleyproject.org/cases/e/espinoza_melissa.html) - this one I found extremely interesting since there is a good chance Jaycee was pregnant, possibly had just found out she was pregnant, when this happened.

Tera Smith (http://charleyproject.org/cases/s/smith_tera.html) - not very likely after reading the summary, but who knows what really happened. Spawn wasn't even a suspect and he was there the whole time. so who knows if that is really what happened.

Vanessa Dawn Smith (http://charleyproject.org/cases/s/smith_vanessa.html)

Elsa Janell Wind (http://charleyproject.org/cases/w/wind_elsa.html) (Charley Project lists her as a runaway, but can they really know that for sure? And who knows who she ran into even if she did runaway)

that's all I came up with...but the Charley project had HUNDREDS of cases for the 90s and 2000s...so i used NCMEC to find names and then cross-searched on the Charley Project. I'm sure there are more that NCMEC missed or I missed in my search though. And then there are those who were abducted but have been found.

Do you think Jennifer Klein might be a possibility? She disappeared from a campground in Utah in the 70s...idk just throwing it out there.

Also,

Jennifer and Charles Chia, abducted in broad day light on October 18. 1989. Bodies recovered in July 1990 on the side of highway 70 in Pulmas County, CA...http://crime.about.com/od/unsolved/p/chias.htm

Monica DaSilva , abducted from her bedroom September 1990 in Reno, NV. (still unsolved)

given spawn's ties to Reno, it might be a shot. A long shot, but still a shot.

Thank you, phylliyum! Here are my notes from the information you posted:

Added to timeline:

Melissa Ann Espinoza, age 12, Rancho Cordova, 12/3/1993 (not found)
Rancho Cordova is near Sacramento. When traveling from the Antioch area to Reno or Lake Tahoe, one might drive through Sacramento to get there.

Not added to timeline, but noted here:

Elsa Janell Wind, age 13, North San Juan, 9/26/1992. Disappeared 145 miles north of Antioch; 75 - 94 miles north of Sacramento, depending on route, CA-99 being the longer route.

Vanessa Dawn Smith, age 15, Winton, 5/31/1997. Winton is 110 miles southeast of Antioch and 107 miles south of Sacramento. Added note: CA-99 extends to this area.

Tera Lynn Smith, age 16, Redding, 8/22/1998. Redding is a couple hundred miles north, via I-5 or the 101.

I really appreciate you posting the case links for these girls in this thread. It is very helpful for everyone viewing this thread :).

Reposting in the Timeline thread for expanded information regardining his activities in South Lake Tahoe the night of 11/22/1976.

"One hour before Phillip Garrido kidnapped Hall, he tried to kidnap another woman in a similar manner, but she got away, according to officials and court records.

Garrido stopped the woman and asked her for a ride on the night of Nov. 22, 1976, Assistant U.S. Attorney Lealand Lutfy told a judge during Garrido’s 1978 trial for kidnapping Katherine Callaway. He got into the car and rode a certain distance before directing her down a different street, as he had with Callaway, Lutfy said.

When they stopped, “Garrido grabbed this woman, put one handcuff on this woman, (but) was unable to put the other one on,” Lutfy said. She struggled with Garrido and jumped out of the car, he said. Garrido agreed to loosen the cuffs if she promised that she wouldn’t tell the police, Lutfy said.

“She refused to get into the vehicle, the vehicle was moving,” Lutfy said. “He undid that one handcuff that was on her, attached to her, jumped out of the car and ran up the street and took off.”

Lutfy tried to introduce the alleged attack as evidence during Garrido’s federal trial in 1978 to show that he was on a mission to abduct a woman on that November night, and was not insane, as his lawyer was suggesting.

Attempted kidnapping charges were pending in California, but he was never convicted, so U.S. District Judge Bruce Thompson ruled against letting Lutfy tell the jury about the alleged crime."

This picture of Phillip and Nancy Garrido was reportedly taken in 1988. He was released from prison August 1988 after serving time for the 1976 Reno rape.

20090831_zaf_n86_007.jpg

For timeline purposes, Michaela Garecht was kidnapped November 19, 1988 from Hayward and Ilene Misheloff was kidnapped January 30, 1989 from Dublin.

Updated Timeline.

Changed "Garrido committed his first known sex crime in 1976 and was arrested at the scene" to "Prior to kidnapping this victim, he attempted the kidnap of another woman in South Lake Tahoe the same evening."

Added: "In 1972, Garrido picked up two 14-year old girls from the Antioch Public Library, took them on a joyride, gave them drugs, to them to his house. He took one of the girls to a nearby motel where she was repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted. Garrido was charged. However, the prosecution was dropped when the victim refused to testify. "

Edited to add: I made these updates to my Notepad document. I will paste the newest version into the original post when the "Edit" option returns to my screen. (Is WS having problems today?)

Patrick McQuaid met Jaycee Lee Dugard shortly after her abduction. He told the Contra Costa Times that he thinks it was the summer of 1991 when a pretty blond girl who said her name was Jaycee talked with him through the chicken wire fence that separated their Antioch backyards. He remembers an adult male coming out and ushering her inside. Shortly after that a tall solid fence appeared, halting any communication.

McQuaid says he didn't see children at the house again until recently, when he saw two girls who looked to be eight and ten riding in Garrido's car. He took note of it, he says, because "Creepy Phil" as the neighbors called him, was a registered sex offender.

wow... consider this the first missed opportunity of saving her..........

Cali,

This was posted by Sheri Gal and further clarifies the parole violation.. it seems he served one month in prison (so one month away from home) and the rest of his violation was on house arrest:

he was transferred to home confinement for the remainder of his sentence for the parole violation until August 1993.

So he served a month incarcerated, in prison for the parole violation, then served the remainder of the 1993 4 month sentence in home confinement:

"He was arrested again in Apr. 1993 because of another parole violation. The next month he was transferred to home detention and relieved of supervision in Aug. 1993."

http://www.examiner.com/x-1168-Crime-Examiner~y2009m9d1-Jaycee-Lee-Dugard-case-Phillip-Garrido-admitted-he-was-overcome-by-fantasies-of-rape

When someone is found to have violated parole they are most often taken into custody, not house arrest.

A person can start out serving their sentence in prison, then finish the sentence in home confinement (maybe Garrido went back to court and told the judge he was needed at home to care for his aging mother Patricia)

post credited to Seri Gal

ETA: he served 38 days... link a few posts down in the nancy garrido info post

I just wanted to point out something, I haven't check, but how many of these girls went missing while riding bikes? I am wondering because in the back yard pictures there are a number of bikes and we know Jaycee and the girls were not out riding them.

important back story on Nancy Garrido provided by Anglewhocares

Wife who police say joined in abduction and rape of Jaycee Dugard worked as Contra Costa nursing aide
Posted: 09/02/2009 05:16:13 PM PDT
Updated: 09/03/2009 08:17:41 AM PDT
<snipped>
Nancy Garrido worked as a state-licensed aide for a respected nonprofit agency that serves 1,000 adults and children with disabilities, mostly in Contra Costa County, even as police say she helped Phillip Garrido keep Jaycee Dugard isolated and under sexual attack for years, authorities say.

She worked full-time for Contra Costa ARC from December 1994 until March 1998, arriving with stellar references as a nursing aide and physical therapy aide, said Barbara Maizie, the agency's executive director.

Maizie said Nancy Garrido worked with adults only. She arrived with a valid California Nurse Aide license, a history of nursing home work and a long résumé with both in-state and out-of-state references dating to 1981, Maizie said.

It is unclear how Bocanegra met Garrido, but one report says she was visiting a relative in prison. Property records show Nancy Bocanegra living in Denver, then moving to Leavenworth in the mid-1980s. Officials could not be reached for information about licenses she may have held in those states.

A top El Dorado County prosecutor declined last week to say whether evidence shows that Nancy Garrido physically participated in what police describe as a years-long series of rapes against Dugard, saying they only need to prove she aided and abetted with knowledge of the crimes.

But suspicions are boiling over her role, particularly because Garrido was locked up in federal custody, albeit briefly, on an unspecified federal parole violation in 1993. Felicia Ponce, a spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Prisons, clarified Wednesday that Phillip Garrido spent 38 days in a secure facility before he was released to home confinement supervision in May 1993.

During that time, his wife watched over Jaycee Dugard, authorities told The Associated Press.

"You can reasonably infer from the charging document that the wife was doing that," said former U.S. Attorney McGregor Scott, who is acting as a special spokesman for the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office.

"The courts are very reluctant to open up to the idea of a mind control defense. It certainly is, to say the least, a last-ditch defense."

What is Web Sleuth's stance on people taking posts from here and posting them on other forums?

I just found the Timeline I've been working so hard on posted on a .net forum. Someone going by pink angel posted it word for word (right down to "credit bibliophile") here:

(link removed)
Re: Jaycee Dugard kidnapped 18 years ago So Lake Tahoe, CA FOUND ALIVE / 2 arrested
« Reply #663 on: September 01, 2009, 11:36:12 AM »

I just happened to find it when I was searching "James Molino impaled" keywords to find the link to the CBS interview he gave.

Is it right for people to take the Timeline from here to post elsewhere without giving credit to WebSleuths.com?

I'm going to put a disclaimer on it from now on.

lol Californian. We know all about the "website" and no, its not right for anyone to be "re-posting" anything they find here. When you find something like that - notify a mod and let them know - they'll take care of it.

Please go back and edit your post and remove those "links" as we're not supposed to put links to there. :)

Thank you, SWAG. I didn't see anything about linking to that website when I read through the Etiquette and Information thread. I've removed the links and sent a message to a moderator about it.

I also learned that a post "closes" if not edited within 24 hours, which is why I'm unable to update the OP with the latest timeline. I included that inquiry in my message to the mod so I can post the latest updates.
