NY NY - Michael Taus, 24, West Islip, 18 June 2010

I was browsing through craiglist to see if any dogs were found like that. Didn't find any.

FYI: If Michael DID purchase his dog from a shelter in NY, it is highly likely that the dog has a microchip implant. This is standard with MOST shelters in the US, and is why shelter adoption fees are so steep these days. MOST shelters believe, rightfully so, that microchipping pets is a low cost, nearly painless way to eliminate thousands of homeless animals.
The dog, if microchipped, should have his chip number on file in several locations. I wonder if Michael's parents would know where the dog was purchased, the name of Michael's vet, where Michael might keep paperwork regarding his dog. I wish we could just contact them or ask if this has been checked out.
If Romeo has a microchip, a simple GPS-like search can locate him.
I can't believe Michael would have been scheduled to go on a date and the woman wouldn't have come forward at this point. Very hinky.

yep I agree....why hasnt the woman come forward??? also wouldnt the police be able to find out thru his computer who the woman was??? does anyone know if they have checked into her yet??

That happened here....a guy was meeting someone he met on the internet and disappeared.....they had killed him.......however he was leading a double life and was a married, wealthy businessman who was meeting "swinging couples" thru the net......

once they searched his computer they found them who lead them to him...

I went to the MySpace page in the link above. Correct me if I am I wrong but isn't the last sign in from April? If that is the case, why hasn't anyone accessed it to check who may have sent any messages, etc. to him? If I am wrong, I apologize.

Wow, he is not a small man - he is 6'3" and has a good looking Pitty there. I wonder if someone wanted that dog. I pray he is okay and comes home safe.

Hi Lotsa,
It looks like he only had 2 friends on Myspace...so it's likely he didn't use the site much. His Facebook site is completely hidden....so we don't really know who he was friends with on there....but I'm certain that LE would have looked at that already.

The photo link above (in my post) is from Michael's mom's FB page. While I NEVER want to criticize the family of a missing person, I do find it odd that she has only mentioned Michael missing twice. A recent news article says that the family is stepping up the search for Michael and Romeo....but it still seems like no one is actually searching for him. Nearly TWO months have gone by. Surely SOMEONE in LE and the media....or Michael's family....would be clear about the blind date and if LE had found that person and cleared them. There's no way, if LE is doing their job, that they WOULDN'T know at this point who this woman was.

Hi Krista, Thanks for responding!
I agree that it looks like he didn't use his MS much - he may also have another one. But either way, if that were my son or loved one/friend, I'd tell LE "get in there!" and check for any threats he may have had or messages/contact - I would want everyone checked out! Not sure they can do that since he is 25? I'd probably hack it as a final resort!
There doesn't seem to be much - being done as far as searches, etc. from what I could tell but I could be wrong. I just did a couple of google searches to see if there was anything. I hope he and his puppy dog are okay. If the dog dishes were gone, I'd be really boggled. And then the car shows up and is running. Wierd. Doesn't sound good.

I'm wondering if there was really a date at all... if it couldn't be that either:
a) Michael told his parents he was excited about a date, but was really planning to do something else entirely, or
b) someone online fooled him into thinking they were a girl interested in dating, when it was actually someone who wanted to harm him in some way, and he found that out when he arrived wherever he was supposed to meet his "date."

JMO, as always

My dog has a microchip implant. I thought the same thing when I purchased it, that they would be able to find her if lost. But it doesnt work that way. Vets, shelters and kennels scan the animal when they go for a visit. All the chip does is give the owners information/vet info. Really it just proves its your animal.

From this link:
The device carries a number, and this number is plugged into a database that includes the name and contact information of a pet's owner.

I hope Michael is found soon. I cant imagine if my 24 yr old son just disappeared like that. Praying he and his dog are okay.

Yes I agree about the dog dishes, he was planning on staying away for the night .....

I have two dogs and I always take their dishes with me when I go to the dog park or a hike. You need something to put the water in for them to drink. Also maybe it was an extra set that he kept in his car for that very reason.

Sorry to quote myself but I just reread the article wich states the dishes were missing from the apartment but I still wonder if he took them because he needed to use them at the park or a hike or something like that and not because he was planning on staying over night although that's MOO

Sometimes the microchip can't be scanned. The particular county I am in has no money for a scanner. I found that out the hard way-my pug/lab mix was scared by fireworks 4th of July while I was out of town. She took off from the dogsitter and when I called the police, I told them she was microchipped. They told me that they didn't have the financial resources to check microchips and hoped I had a conventional tag on her. It so happens I did not, because she is a strictly inside dog unless we go running. Turned out she was accidentally locked in the neighbors garage and luckily we found her before she suffocated. I have a personalized collar and ID on her now.

If this dog is in area where they don't check microchips, I hope the dog has a collar on with ID. I think contacting shelters and publicizing the dogs look is a great idea, since some places can't check the microchip.

Can't find any new articles on this case.

Just checking here to see if any news.

I wonder if he was meeting a guy and didn't want to say that to his family.

Anyway even if he was meeting with a female I wonder if this girl is also missing?

Any girls missing in this time frame? Or a guy?

Family steps up search for missing W. Islip man.

(07/29/10) WEST ISLIP - A Long Island family is asking for the public's help finding their missing loved one more than a month after he was last seen.

This video is a few weeks old but wanted to bring it here.

I am thinking the same thing about a guy, only because it's very unusual for a woman to hurt a guy. JMO. Or to overwhelm a guy and take advantage, especially when his Atm is not being used. No one used his card. What other reasons could there be for a woman to hurt him?

Sorry about news12..

His father said be careful you never know who you are going to meet over the internet. His father asked about the girl and his son said...Dad I can't tell you.

There is a girl posted here who is also missing. Was at the Holiday Inn in Hauppague which is so close to his home in West Islip. Her name is Megan Waterman who is involved in a escort service. Hmmmm. Even though her BF said she was last seen on June 6.. I am really wondering about these two cases are connected.
