Ashley Masi, 24, who recently moved to 214-216 River Ave., was proud of her children and her new place, said friends and her mother. She hoped one day to become a nurses' assistant. She also needed money.

Early Tuesday afternoon, while her mother watched Masi's twin 6-year-old daughters at her home and a cousin took her infant daughter out of the apartment, Masi posted an advertisement as an escort on Backpage.com. Sometime that afternoon, a man was seen entering the apartment house, according to Masi's mother. Around 5 p.m., the cousin found Masi dying and called police...

On Tuesday, Bleecker said, she was watching the twins at her own house and talked to Masi on the phone. "She said, 'Mom, I'm doing the best I can.' The last thing she said to me was, 'I'll be there to get the kids.'"

Providence Police said a relative found Masi's body inside her 3rd floor apartment on River Ave. but they are not releasing how the mother of three was killed.

Maj. David Lapatin said the woman had not been dead long before her body was discovered.

Masi's mother told NBC10 that also inside the home at the time of the murder was Masi's youngest daughter.

“She loved that baby so much, that baby loved her so much, the kids loved her so much.”

Bleecker was watching her two other grandchildren at the time of the murder. Hours later, the Department of Child, Youth and Families came to her door and took the girls away.

A Providence man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he strangled a young woman in her apartment after responding to her online advertisement for escort services.

During Monday morning’s brief arraignment in Providence County Superior Court, Daniel Tejada, 28, was charged with murder in the first degree for allegedly killing Ashley Masi, 24.

Attorneys delivered closing arguments Wednesday in the murder trial of Daniel Tejeda...

Tejeda’s defense attorney, Judith Crowell, told the jury that detectives didn’t look at any other potential suspects after Tejeda’s phone number registered with a Providence Police database for his previous criminal record...

Prosecutor Daniel Guglielmo said Tejeda had made three different, conflicting statements to police — and asked for investigators to come see him.
