Post-Verdict:Jose Baez-Sanctions? Florida Bar Investigation!

Why am I no longer surprised?

Just another sad symptom of a flawed system.

Then again, perhaps it is just some of the individuals in it that are flawed.

:cow:

"I forgot" and "There was lots of paperwork" are excuses acceptable to the FL Bar ?
Is no one accountable for their actions any longer?
Is "My dog ate my homework" a future acceptable FCA excuse ?
:banghead:

We knew this was coming. In my opinion, even they knew he had crossed the line. But, how could they possibly go against someone who won the trial of the century when they knew she should have been found guilty? If they planned to punish JB, they would have done it right away.

From the letter we also learn that due to the bar's record retention schedule, computer records and files are destroyed one year after closing.

I guess that way they can gloat about an attorney's "spotless" career and say no complaints are on record no matter how bad the attorney may have been.
We learn something new every day, don't we?

BBM
Thanks wasn't enough. Those were exactly my thoughts! Just wow. This alludes to a lack of accountability, which is disturbing, while professing high ethical standards. And with the time it takes a complaint to be reviewed, anything previously 'on file' may just vanish in the meantime?

They really found a way to talk out of both sides of their collective mouth. All the while they speak about high standards...unbelievable. Don't know how they sleep at night.

They would be better with a Watch committee governing them, from various professions, with a handful of Attorney.... At least there would be some lay people there to maintain community standards.
How often do you have to show contempt for the court to earn disciplinary action in Florida?

Actually, the committees are comprised of both lawyers and other citizens. How they could conclude it was unintentional is beyond me. Even Judge Perry told him he felt it was no accident.

I'm more concerned about the money that was allocated to contact and interview TES volunteers that had no investigative value to the defense whatsoever. They were conducting these searches and billing the State a few months before the trial. Plus all the time that was spent with a mitigation specialist, KC did not just come up with this drowning theory at the last minute. Don't we already know from her first DP attorney, TL, that they were trying to get a plea deal for an accidential death.

Seems to me the DT has done a lot of damage to others in this case who are innocent but using them to place blame for Caylee's death when all they had to do was claim Caylee drowned and KC went into a denial role. Does not seem ethical to me to blame innocent people without any proof and DP should be accountable for that. jmo

did anyone really expect anything different?
hope..yes, expect..no.

Quote from The Offical Jeffrey Ashton FB page:

I see that the Bar cleared Baez on the grievance matters. Interesting that they never spoke to me about them.....

"However, in one case the grievance committee also issued a letter of advice indicating that while Mr. Baez’s conduct did not warrant formal discipline, the committee believed his conduct was not consistent with the high standards of the legal profession."

Let's add this statement to the documents showing WHY Baez was denied by the Florida Supreme Court from joining the Florida Bar for 8 years

http://abcnews.go.com/US/casey-anth...rney-jose-baez/story?id=13784113#.T0wUHIePXcg

"The Florida Supreme Court said his financial mishaps coupled with failure to pay child support "show a lack of respect for the rights of others and a total lack of respect for the legal system, which is absolutely inconsistent with the character and fitness qualities required of those seeking to be afforded the highest position of trust and confidence recognized by our system of law."

Sums up JB quite well I'd say...I guess the lawyers on the commitee have been doing their job so long they can't see the forest for the trees. Everything is an accident. You find a little 3 year old double bagged and thrown away like trash, decomp in the trunk, a bucket full of lies from the mother and it was all just a terrible accident. JB abuses the system time and time again and it was just an accident. Just a matter of sittin on the fence and no one had the guts to stand up and say...The king has no clothes
Maybe they should consider changing the name from the justice system to the accident system...???

Seems to me that there wasn't one lawyer anywhere that approved of the bs Baez was flinging around for the whole 3 years and trial until the jury did what they did to set Convicted Felon Casey Anthony free. Then the tide changed. Yup, that's our justice system. Makes me sick but I have learned my lesson just by this case alone. Eveyone lies and everyone dies has a whole new meaning to me now. If you have anything to do with the justice system you can get away with murder if you pick a sleezy lawyer.

The thanks button just wasnt' enough.:clap::goodpost:

IIRC, 3 members of the Grievance Committee are Non-lawyers

Let me say that from working in the legal community for 30 years, from what I have seen regarding the bar grievance committee......they rarely, rarely send anything on to the bar UNLESS it involves something so egregious, which USUALLY means money has been taken from a client. There is no getting around that - when you have stolen from your client, that is a big no. 1 bad.. Drugs, being convicted of a felony, etc.
Discovery violations....not so much. UNFORTUNATELY. However, I happen to think there should have been more done about the brokering of blood money by an attorney for his client while representing said client in a capital murder trial. Serious, serious conflict of interest.
IMHO.

BBM IIRC The sale of the pictures and videos to ABC for $200,000 happened in August, 2008. Casey Anthony was not indicted for muder until October, 2008. At that time, Baez was only representing her for charges of child neglect, lying to investigators and interfering with a criminal investigation.

going out on a limb here....I think the point is that he was representing her period.
