URGENT WEATHER:
There is a very serious situation unfolding as we speak. Montague County has received 12+ inches in the last 12 hours or so, and is still receiving rain at 1-2 inches per hour. This is making for serious flash flood concerns in that area.
Unfortunately, any stream, creek, or river that originates in Montague and flows to Cooke County will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. If you live near a creek that flows out of Montague County it is imperative that you stay alert to the situation. This could very easily be LIFE THREATENING if you do not monitor closely, any rise would be rapid, and you may not notice it until it is to late.
 
This situation was made much worse by the heavy May floods, so the TS Bill did NOT cause all of this flooding but it certainly made it worse.

Mammoth mega-storm expected to drop up to 20 feet; 'God help us'

Another blizzard swept Mammoth Mountain on Wednesday, the precursor to a string of storms expected to bring up to 20 feet of fresh snow in the next 10 days, the resort says.

Since Tuesday, 26 to 48 inches of fresh snow had fallen, with the deepest totals at the summit. Plows were working furiously to keep lots and streets clear.

The cause of the snow? One of those “atmospheric rivers” that forecasters refer to in particularly generous storms like this.

The historic Pioneer Cabin Tree, a former "drive-through" giant sequoia in Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Calaveras County, was felled in California's weekend storms.

The tree was hollowed out in the 1880s to allow tourists to pass through it, and even allowed cars, but more recently has hosted only hikers. It was part of the "Big Trees Trail" at the state park.*

I read this today also SophieRose. So sad. I guess "hollowing out" giant trees was more acceptable in the 1880's, but honestly it just destroys the integrity and health of these giants.
 
The first band of what forecasters predict will be the region's most powerful storm in a decade continued to pummel Northern California on Sunday, causing flooding throughout the region and prompting evacuations in Sonoma County and parts of neighboring Nevada.

Emergency officials voluntarily evacuated 650 homes in the low-lying communities of Monte Rio and Guerneville in Sonoma County as the Russian River continued to rise Sunday evening. The river is expected to peak at noon on Monday and will probably remain at or above flood levels through Tuesday morning, officials said.

“There's a significant threat to life and property as we go through the next couple of days with widespread flooding, continued road closures and high water in low-lying areas," said Mark Faucette, a National Weather Service forecaster based in Reno. “This is beyond localized flooding. This is a significant flood event."

An “extreme” avalanche warning was issued for parts of the Sierra Nevada because of the heavy snow. In Mammoth Lakes, officials said higher elevations recorded 48 inches of snow in the last two days.

Winds topped 50 mph in some areas.

At least 13 dead in 4 states as tornadoes and floods wreak havoc in parts of South, Midwest


Deaths from the severe weather were reported in Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi.

East Texas was the worst hit, with tornadoes there killing at least four people and leaving a trail of what officials called "extensive damage" in the area. The twisters flattened homes and flipped cars and pickup trucks, according to videos and photos posted to social media.

All four deaths were in the Canton area east of Dallas, authorities said. At least 50 other people in the area were injured, the Canton Fire Department said.


In neighboring Arkansas, at least three people are dead and two missing, authorities said.
A 65-year-old woman, Christina Smith, was killed overnight by a falling tree in DeWitt, Arkansas, according to police.

In the community of Springdale, a 10-year-old girl was swept away by floodwaters and killed.

And in Dead Cove City, the fire chief, Doug Deckar, was checking water lines on a roadway during thunderstorms early Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle and killed, the Arkansas state police reported.

In Madison County, Arkansas, deputies are search for two missing children who may have been in a car swept away by floodwaters.




 
We made out okay in New Orleans, but the morning snd early afternoon were pretty dicey (much to the chagrin of Jazz Fest goers). 5he wind was crazy. I'm shocked we had no tornadic activity.

At least 12 people have been killed by tornadoes or flooding in the South and Midwest by a storm that also dumped a rare late-season blizzard in western Kansas on Sunday.

Tornadoes hit several small towns in East Texas, killing four people. Three people were killed by flooding and winds in Arkansas, with officials saying two more people are missing. Rushing water swept away a car, drowning a woman in Missouri; and a death was reported in Sunday morning storms that raked Mississippi.

An Arkansas volunteer fire department chief was killed while working during storms in north-central Arkansas, state police said.
Cove Creek/Pearson Fire Chief Doug Decker died shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday after being struck by a vehicle while checking water levels on Highway 25 near Quitman, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) north of Little Rock, Trooper Liz Chapman said. It wasn't known if he will be included as a storm-related death, she said.
A 2-year-old girl in Tennessee died after being struck by a heavy, metal soccer goal post that was blown over by high winds, The Metro Nashville Police Department posted on its Twitter page on Sunday evening.

The storms rolled through Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama on Sunday with strong winds causing isolated pockets of damage. In Durant in central Mississippi on person died in the storms. The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency didn't give details. Later Sunday the agency reported the death of a child from Rankin County, 20 miles (32 kilometers) east of Jackson, who died from electric shock in flood waters. The Rankin County Sherriff's Department reported that a 7-year-old boy had unplugged an electric golf cart and dropped the cord in water on the ground and was shocked.
