MO - Malnourished child found locked in closet

This is the same child that was previously removed from this woman-when the child was only 4. The child had to be hospitalized back then. And then CPS gave the child back to her. Another "re-unification" accomplished.
Does CPS pat itself on the back after each re-unification?
Do they even care what the outcomes of these re-unifications are?

"Six years ago, Jacole Prince admitted that she intentionally withheld food from her 4-year-old daughter to keep her from going to the bathroom too often."

Experts say 32-lb girl faces long recovery (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)

Hospital personnel who saw the child Friday said she had been at the hospital in January 2006 for an unspecified visit and weighed 26 pounds then, according to the probable cause statement. They also told police the 10-year-old wears a 2T, or toddler size, T-shirt, and that the "current diagnosis is multiple healing skin injuries and failure to thrive."

FWIW, comments on this article earlier today indicated that the child is indeed from a different father than the two differently treated children. Again FWIW, those comments appear to have been removed by STLToday staff at this time.

CPS has removed this child from this woman in 2006. The child was already malnourished in 2006. Then gave the child right back to her in 2007.

"The state of Missouri said then, in early 2006, that Prince had neglected to properly care for her daughter. The girl and her younger sister were removed from the mother’s home, according to Jackson County Family Court records obtained by The Star. Before Prince could get her daughters back, she’d have to complete a list of requirements set by the state."

More proof that she was intentionally starved! It's a miracle she's alive. Lock up her mother for attempted murder!!

How could they give a child in this situation back to the mother and fail to check up on her? Wasn't she enrolled in school? What about the extended family?

So glad this little girl is safe now. But seriously 10 years...10 years of abuse..DOCUMENTED ABUSE! Where's the cps workers, case managers, social workers, teachers, GRANDPARENTS, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, boyfriends family, real dads family?? I truely hope the caller just found out about the abuse and called immediatley, because if the caller knew about this girl and did nothing for 10 years..well I'm not going to praise someone for finally doing the right thing. May everyone that knowingly failed this little girl carry that burdon forever!

I find teh people/acquaintances of Ms. Prince's BF who are so vocally defending him, claiming he did not know to be absolutely ludicrous. He fathered Ms. Prince's two younger children. He lived in that household. To claim he was unaware of the 10 year old starving, covered in her own feces, in the closet of the home he shared with Ms. Prince is just beyond idiocy.

Especially considering the child in question (known in some articles as LP) was given over to HIS care after the case/CPS involvement back in 2006. He cannot claim he did not know of this child's existence or presence in that closet.

Nope

Nope

Sorry.

I hope he is held accountable as well as this poor child's mother.

I consider it abusive even to the two younger children in the home. Sure, they attended school were housed clothed given toys and playmates. What sort of message did they grow up with? If I get out of line I could always join my sister in the *****filled closet?

Disgusting.

I agree, anyone who knew of this child's plight and did not act to stop this travesty should be deeply deeply ashamed. You are less than human to turn away from such suffering.

Jury issues sentencing recommendation for Jacole Prince; LP issues letter

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Just hours after a jury found Jacole Prince guilty of child abuse, endangerment and assault, it handed down its recommendation to a judge for sentencing on Friday night. Prince wasn’t present after she left the courtroom following several outbursts when her daughter LP’s foster mom took the stand during the sentencing phase.

Failure to thrive my butt! This baby was starved!! Why on earth are they calling this failure to thrive when the mother makes a statement like that?

I understand what you are saying, but "failure to thrive" is an umbrella diagnosis that also covers purposeful starvation. It's just an observation that the child isn't thriving - doesn't assign a cause. Like diagnosing a child with a broken leg doesn't clarify whether the cause was intentional or accidental. Many cases of child abuse investigations begin with a pediatrician's diagnosis of "failure to thrive" and then an investigation takes place that sometimes shows the child has an illness, or the mother has insufficient breastmilk, or the child is purposely starved.
