Flores confirmed that the racket (presumed attack weapon) does not belong to his daughter. Early in the morning personnel from the homicide division went back to the hotel, this time to inspect documentation that Joran could have left. They also went to the next door gas station to interview the MiniMarket employees, and found out Joran bought 2 cups of coffee at 8:00 am on Sunday. He went back to the hotel, went upstairs and came back down at 8:25 am with only 1 cup of coffee in order to pay for the days he owed. He left the hotel at 8:45 am with a black rucksack and a small brown handbag. They never saw him again.

So basically, Stephany only won $700 from Garcia and it was in early May, not the night she left with Joran?

Thanks for posting that. The reporting on this case has been truly, magnificently awful. Looking at the video of the room, I don't see a "crime scene" as previously described. No real mess, no blood, no major signs of a struggle either. Also, according to the video translated earlier, Joran did not pay for the room in advance when he left - he was two days behind, which is why they went to check the room and then found the body.

I wouldn't be surprised if this whole story changed again today.

The reporters are now talking about the Albanian (naturalized Uruguayan) who was a key witness in clarifying what may have happened. Some important questions he was asked:

- When did he meet Stephany? He met her during the first week of May, late at night, while he played poker in the CASINO FIESTA located in the Av. Benavides.

- How many times did they play poker? Four times in both the Atlantic City and Fiesta casinos.

He also says that LE went to his room asking him to identify Stephany's body, but he didn't want to see it, so he was shown a photo of Stephany.

He had been wondering why Joran failed to attend The Rosa Nautica restaurant, and was worried because he hadn't seen them during the last few days. Everything in his declaration coincides with the hotel clerk's testimony, who after trying for 2 days to contact Joran decides to get into his room using a duplicate key.

This is the state she finds the room:
The lights were "on", as well as the TV - loud volume, a pair of snickers, the bed in total disarray, lots of clothing, everything on the floor. She looked around and found a body, and was surprised to see that it was not a man but a woman's body. Then the reporter says "and other details that we already know about".

It will be very interesting to see if Stephany's DNA is on the cup of coffee Joran brought back. This entire scenario with the coffee bothers me - it isn't like Joran to go to such trouble, there must be some reason he did this. MOO

I was thinking that maybe he figured he would say.. Hey she was fine when I left to get her coffee, and fine when I returned to the room. And I left a few minutes later she was fine...but imo his goose is cooked. ..

...and you did a good job too!! I am a Peruvian born, who coincidentally was raised in Miraflores (the same area where the hotel was). If I can help at all with translations, local customs, slang or details of the area, I would be glad to oblige. I followed the Holloway case very closely....and I must say that I felt a certain degree of pride when I heard Joran had been arrested in Peru....finally he will get what he deserves.....and there is no Daddy now to "represent" him!:dance:

Yeah, but this time Daddy was not there to get rid of the evidence....with Natallee's murder it was "no body - no case"....but this time Joran left a body, his DNA and his name on the room....and killed his latest victim on the anniversary of Natalee's death....that was no coincidence!! He was "celebrating".

I'm thinking she won it from Garcia since it was in early May. Joran didn't get there until the 14th, and according to Stephany's father she did not meet Joran until the night of the murder.

Garcia was asked if Stephany had won $5,000 Dollars from him (Garcia) early Sunday, which is what has been rumoured. He said it was only S/. 2,000 Soles and that happened during the first week of May. In this video there is no specific mention if she won those S/.2,000 Soles from him (Garcia) or someone else.

I'm not sure if she won the money from Garcia or Vandersloot. I've asked Hazel to verify. I was only converting the currency to something I can understand.

I think the reporting has been pretty darn good considering how fast and furious the information has been coming in. Factor in the unusual language and cultural difficulties and misunderstandings plus the usual sorting out and confirmation of the initial facts that happen with every new case. All things considered, I think it's coming together nicely. :twocents:
