great reads you people are finding.. I have a link to OH&S site with a picture of MEH but I am not sure if I can post it on here...

Welcome Macright!

Just catching up and noticed that no one answered you. Is it that you are not sure if the link is allowed, or you are not sure how to do it?

Police says further DNA matching is required to identify the remains. A name will not be released until next-of-kin has been notified.

Sillybilly, is it possible that they already had a strong suspicion as to who it was? Perhaps that's one way to interpret the last comment. I think they knew who it was, but had to confirm it. This one doesn't make me suspicious...but perhaps I am too naiive and trusting ;)

I'm not sure if this is the same case (in London, Ont). In the Comments someone says the victim was a woman; I'm a bit confused since there have been a few of those discoveries lately.

- Fraser River
- Welland River (Niagara Falls I believe)
- Thames River (woman floating in river 2008 ---> link http://www.londontopic.ca/article.php?artid=9639
- Rockport ---> link http://www.recorder.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2508128

here is the link for the London, ON article = http://www.lfpress.com/news/london/2010/03/29/13390966.html
Also, did they find this man? ---> http://www.trentonian.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2498019

That bolded link, relates to a body found just a month ago. IIRC they had that figured out in less than 24 hours (yes, those London LE are mighty amazing aren't they??). Actually, I believe it turned out to be a woman who had wandered off earlier that day (she was prone to "wandering"), or the day before and had been reported as missing. Unfortunately I haven't been able to put my fingers on a followup news article, although I heard an update on the radio the next morning. I'll try to find the link.

In any case, I'm sure there must be some somewhat recent unsolved missing persons or unidentified remains cases in the SW Ontario area...I haven't really been paying that much attention until quite recently.

I'm sorry, but I don't get why there are so many unsolved (and solved) cases being discussed in this thread. This is Jessica's thread. She has been found, her alleged killer charged and under lock and key.

A new thread has been created focusing on RW. If anyone thinks that some of these cases may be related to him, shouldn't they be discussed on his own thread?

If some of these cases obviously cannot be linked to him, maybe new threads should be opened for them. Just trying to simplify things here.

I for one would like to see it. Is the pic on a public site? Does it mention her name?

Hazel, I came across some more cases. This one you've already read:

June 4, 2008: Half-naked woman found slain near a bike bath in Britannia Park, Ottawa; age 39.

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/ottawa/story/2010/04/12/ottawa-kosmack-reward-slaying.html (see sidebar articles)
http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=bfc13ea1-9b6a-489c-80a4-22c2c5509991

I initially mistook that incident for this one:

May 4, 2008: Woman, about 30, found naked and injured in Carlington Park.

http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/story.html?id=7733a3bc-540d-4041-b250-cff0eb9786c6&k=41960

There you have it. Exactly one month apart, both in parks. Then on March 3, 2010, this incident in Gatineau:

http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Woman+critically+burned+Gatineau+Park+mystery/2634227/story.html

That particular time of the month is rather dangerous for women who enter parks anywhere near Ottawa. I'm not suggesting that all murder cases everywhere are related. Parks are dangerous. Strangely enough, the victim in this case in Etobicoke is 28. Is this some kind of target age?

Just read antiquegirl's post
Summer, will answer you in the other thread :)

Thank you for the welcome.I am not sure if the link is allowed. The picture shows a very different person in appearance than the two women he is charged with murdering.

Does anyone remember how much older RW's wife is than him?

TIA

I believe she is 6 or 7 yrs. older. Somewhere I read where he had a 50th birthday party for her a couple of years back. I personally think this ended up a marriage of convenience. He went his way and she hers but for a front they stayed together. He had a lot of "free time" to do all those B&E which leads me to think that in her position she was away a lot at conferences etc. I may be wrong with this but I believe staying together helped him in his promotions especially becoming CO of the base Trenton. The military likes to project a " stable family image" with it's CO's and I really don't think he would have been selected for that position if he was a divorced man. There are many in the military who worked with and under RW but it seems they have closed ranks at the moment. There is enough egg on the faces of those big guys at NDHQ.

"Word of Cpl. Marie France Comeau’s murder arrived in her alleged killer’s inbox at 12:13 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2009.

The message was marked “significant occurrence” and kicked off a stream of messages that would keep Col. Russ Williams, her commander at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, abreast of the unfolding police probe, one that would lead months later to his stunning arrest."

Now to find the "hundreds" of documents released:)

Col. Williams, wife, sued for $2.45M by alleged victim of 'horrific' sex attack

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — The "horrific and reprehensible" alleged sexual attack on a 21-year-old woman by Col. Russell Williams has left her fearful and suicidal, the woman claims in a lawsuit filed against the former CFB Trenton base commander.

The woman, identified only as Jane Doe, is also suing Williams's wife, Mary-Elizabeth Harriman, claiming Williams fraudulently transferred an Ottawa property to his wife in an effort to defeat Jane Doe's claim.

Williams has been criminally charged with killing two women, sexually assaulting another two woman and with 82 break-and-enter charges, some of which reportedly involved lingerie.

The criminal charges have not yet been tested in court nor have the civil allegations. There is no indication Williams has filed a statement of defence.

Williams broke into Jane Doe's home in Tweed, Ont., on Sept. 17, 2009 at about 1 a.m. while she and her infant daughter were sleeping, the suit claims. Williams held her captive, sexually assaulted her and took naked pictures of her, according to the lawsuit filed with the court in Belleville, Ont.

During the attack, which left her sexually, emotionally and mentally traumatized, the woman was terrified Williams would kill her and/or her baby, she claims.

"The conduct of the defendant was harsh, vindictive, malicious, horrific and reprehensible," the statement of claim reads.

The horror of that night has left the woman with a long list of ongoing trauma, she claims. She will continue to suffer physical, mental and emotional pain, "major" depression, suicidal behaviour, sexual dysfunction and drug and alcohol dependencies, the $2.45-million lawsuit says.

The woman also claims she has lost the ability to trust other people, she has lost current and future income because of an inability to seek or obtain meaningful employment and therefore cannot provide for her children.

She will require extensive therapy and medical attention, she claims, and is seeking $100,000 for future care costs.

The woman is also seeking $500,000 each in general damages for pain and suffering and loss of future income, as well as $500,000 each for aggravated damages and punitive damages. She is also claiming $250,000 in special damages for lost income and a further $100,000 for unspecified special damages.

Jane Doe is also alleging Williams secretly transferred a property in Ottawa, the city in which he shared a home with his wife, in "unusual haste" and under "suspicious circumstances."

The suit alleges the real estate transaction took place on March 26 -- some six weeks after Williams was criminally charged in the sex assaults and killings.

The woman believes that Williams and Harriman "will remove assets from the jurisdiction or otherwise dispose of or dissipate them in an effort to defeat the plaintiff in any attempt to recover upon the judgment, if the plaintiff is ultimately successful," the suit reads.

Williams led one of the country's top airbases -- CFB Trenton -- before he was charged in February with first-degree murder in the deaths of Cpl. Marie-France Comeau of Brighton, Ont., and Jessica Lloyd, 27, of Belleville. He is also charged in the sexual assaults of two others.

Just hours before Williams made a brief court appearance last month, provincial police said a review of unsolved crimes in eastern Ontario had resulted in 82 new charges.

It's alleged Williams burglarized Jane Doe's home twice after the Sept. 17 assault. The court documents also show police believe he robbed the home of his second alleged assault victim twice before the Sept. 30 attack in the woman's home.

<snipped for brevity>

Most lawyers will frequently use words in a Statement of Claim that tend to "embellish" a situation, at times making things sound even worse than they were. In this case, when I think of not only what this woman experienced at the hands of this assailant, but the absolute fear she must still experience simply based on his status within the military, it must truly, truly be a day-to-day nightmare for her.

I'm a bit surprised that the military was not included in the style of cause in this action. Usually they start off including the world and then eliminate parties as warranted as the case proceeds.

Yes, I believe this is true. Also, the dollar amounts sought start out high, with expectations of a much lower final settlement (if successful).

I've been wondering why the other sexual assault victim didn't join forces with Jane Doe and make this a class action suit.

IMO I bet we will see more law suits coming forward from his other victims.
