Michigan Attorney General to prosecute I-96 shootings suspect

Lansing — Attorney General Bill Schuette's office will handle prosecution of a Wixom man suspected in a string of shootings along the Interstate 96 corridor in three mid-Michigan counties.

Schuette's office said Tuesday the prosecutors in Ingham, Livingston and Shiawassee counties requested assistance from the Attorney General's Criminal Division in the prosecution of the suspected shooter, 43-year-old Raulie Casteel.

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper's office will handle its case against Casteel separately, according to a press release from Schuette's office. Cooper could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday morning...

Wixom man facing charges of domestic terrorism, assault

Howell — A Wixom man suspected in a series of roadway shootings near Interstate 96 was arraigned Thursday on charges of domestic terrorism and assault with intent to murder in a Livingston County incident.

In a video arraignment from the Livingston County Jail, Raulie Wayne Casteel, 43, told visiting Judge John Pikkarainen he understood the new charges, which carry up to life in prison upon conviction. During the video arraignment in 53rd District Court, Casteel appeared attentive and alert, answering "yes, your honor" to questions posed to him by the judge...

80-120 months in prison - I don't understand how they will determine when his release date is with that kind of sentence

plus two years for firearms offences - so anywhere from 8 1/2 years to 12 years in total?

that math is confusing but either way hopefully he stays there for the entire time

Raulie Casteel learned his fate Monday in Livingston County Circuit Court in Howell. The 44-year-old geologist from Wixom already is serving a sentence of more than 6 years in a related case in Oakland County...
