Calgary, Alberta – The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating a man who has been missing for two days.

Ryan LANE, 24, was last seen in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, near the 5200 block of Country Hills Boulevard N.W.

It’s unusual for LANE to be out of contact with his family or friends for an extended period of time and he has missed several important appointments, which is out of character.

LANE is Caucasian, 5’9” tall, 150 pounds with a slim build. He has brown eyes and brown hair. He also has a tattoo on his right upper arm.

Cops scour gravel pits, identify suspects in case of missing Calgary man
13-Mar-12

snipped...Police have spoken to dozens of people including a number of suspects, although they would not say how many or if they are men or women.

They have a number of theories of what might have led to the Lane vanishing, including the possibility it is linked to a phone call he received by someone offering to help him get custody of his daughter.

[eta: RUMOR - as per someone posting at Help Find Ryan Lane FB - this guy is Ryan's X-BIL]

This one seems to be solved, and seems to be a result of a custody dispute over his 4 year old daughter. I suspect that the two stories are connected.

"Two men and a woman long suspected by police in the slaying of Ryan Lane are facing first-degree murder charges.

The discovery of the 24-year-old father's skeletal remains have prompted police to consider homicide charges against suspects they are calling "unco-operative.

...

Police are not releasing details about where or when Lane's remains were found."

"A medical examiner has determined that partial remains found in a rural area northwest of Calgary are from a human body."

I've been reading up on this case ... it seems to be about a 4 year old daughter. From what I can gather, after reading some articles this afternoon, the victim had a child with the mother. His parents live in another province. I get the impression that now, four years later, the ex-girlfriend was pregnant again, and that father intended to adopt the 4 year old. That seems to be at the center of the murder.

According to the maternal grandmother, they lived together for a month after the baby was born, and then had no contact. She said that there is no custody dispute. She said that out of the blue, he wants visitation. She said that there was no argument about it shortly before his disappearance.

On the day he vanished from an intersection, he was going to meet with someone that offered to help him with custody. I suspect that the remains found near Cochrane are Ryan, as that body was found a few weeks ago, and it had been there for a few months. Ryan vanished in February.

It sounds like the woman and two men that will be arrested could be the mother of the 4 year old, her husband and a friend. If so, then they murdered him in order to prevent him from having a relationship with his daughter. That pretty screwed up.

If it is Ryan why don't they just say so. Can't they connect the 2 or what. They won`t disclose where Ryan was found but yet they won`t say if the remains found in Cochrane are Ryan. Good grief. :banghead:

How sad if his death was a result of a custody issue.
