What do you guys think of this hawk? I know it is on a backpack but it looks very close, or pretty much identical IMO. I googled "70's hawk shirt" and this popped up. Here is the link; http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://img.loveitsomuch.com/uploads/201212/06/70/70s%252520rare%252520mark%252520pack%252520works%252520red%252520tail%252520hawk%252520cordura%252520daypack%252520backpack-f57852.jpg&imgrefurl=http://dafortun.loveitsomuch.com/stores/70s-rare-mark-pack-works-red-tail-hawk,436889.html&h=407&w=570&tbnid=EKJMEZ80gsZAQM:&zoom=1&docid=kzZ1pXwIAC6btM&ei=3oQsVerSOO3fsASzsoH4Aw&tbm=isch&ved=0CAoQMygCMAI4ZA

ETA: At this link there are other images of the backpack with enlargements and in one of the images there is an artist's name at the bottom and next to the name is says 1975. I am unable to make out the name, perhaps Jim and a last name starting with the letter K? But that is just a guess. https://www.etsy.com/listing/110211620/70s-rare-mark-pack-works-red-tail-hawk

This is the one!!! I am almost positive! When I was sketching the tail feathers, I noted the placement especially where the one feather is set slightly apart, the white line and different tip on that particular feather, and the markings. Wow!

Can someone do a side by side with the tshirt piece please?

Even if it is not exactly the one, I am pretty positive the same artist made the hawk on the shirt, I just wish I could read their name. I am going to try to send the seller of the backpack a question, asking them if they could tell me what the name is. I noticed it says the item has been sold but maybe if i can contact them they may know what the name is.

No, I honestly believe it is exactly the same one that is on the t-shirt! (I am so excited!!)

Yes! It would be great if they could read the name before they ship it off!

Lol, the link took me to "sorry this item has sold." You know, I think if this isn't it, it's surely the closest we've come, yet. The angle of the tail, the lighter markings on the wings, the orange orb...it looks great. Here it is bigger:

And compared to the tee:

ETA: Even the spacing between the tail feathers is the same. I really think this is our screenprint/artist.

No. The name Jim is easy to read, but the last name bleeds too much when it is enlarged. Does look like it starts with a K, but not sure of that either.

ETA - I enlarged it and got a magnifying glass up to my screen. . . . here's what I can see (with variationsof what it could be):

It is a deception, I was freaking out too cause when I clicked the link (the link at the bottom of my post) it says sold, just scroll down below the rows of random items and more images/info of the backpack are there. :D

We need a side by side to compare! I can show you mark for mark why this is the one! :) And I can finally see the legs and the talons!!! Yay!!!

I'm on Etsy...I'll contact the owner to see if she knows who the artist was (she may have mentioned it in her description).

Yes, one of the talons/legs is actually a part of what I thought was a beak! Post 1010 above shows backpack compared to image of tee.

I saved a copy of the pic on my computer so we can't lose it.

This has been an eventful 24 hours or so! LOL I can't believe you found it, Equestrianista!!!! Way To Go!!!!

In the link I posted that says the item is sold, just scroll down further below the rows of random items listed. There are more photos of the pack, but very little info other than the manufacturer of the pack and the size of the pack. I also sent the seller a message.

Equestrianista . . . . getting down with your "bad" self! Woo Hoo! You win the post of the Day award!!!! Plus you get to wear the crown of Red Tailed Hawk Tee Shirt land forever more!!!!

Standing oviation from all WS members on this thread!

Okay, just contacted the seller. She's in CA, so hopefully it's early enough there still that I might hear back from her tonight.

California...good sign. I haven't read the description, but if it's handmade, it might be from a vintage tee (or 2).

ETA: Here's the description:

"Vintage 70s Rare MARK PACK WORKS Red Tail Hawk Cordura Daypack Backpack. This rare 70's Cordura flying hawk rucksack is in excellent vintage condition. Great light weight small cordura pack with an awesome red tail hawk painting on the front. It has one large compartment, with one smaller compartment. This is a very rare sought after collectible Mark Pack Works daypack. Great rucksack with a few leather diamonds on the bottom. Great pack for everyday use, and short trips up the mountain."

So it seems the painting is on heavier fabric than our tee. Mark Pack Works sounds like the name of the backpack/rucksack company rather than the painter.

It's absolutely the right one - our bird is only a fragment of it and on the shirt it is turned 90 deg.

Well I enlarged but my pic editor doesn't have a tool to clarify it
