The foster father of a missing 5-year-old boy was interviewed for about an hour Friday by Oakland police homicide investigators who brought him to a Hayward auto wrecking yard where he took the boy before the child vanished, authorities said.

Louis Ross agreed to accompany Sgt. Gus Galindo to the Pick Your Part wrecking yard on Winton Avenue, where Ross took Hasanni Campbell and the boy's 1-year-old sister Monday afternoon, hours before the boy disappeared, said John Burris, a lawyer Ross is consulting.

. . .

"They wanted to find out what he knows," Burris said. "He was very cooperative."

. . .

Alameda County sheriff's deputies will be searching Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont today and undisclosed locations in Hayward, authorities with knowledge of the case said. It is not clear why those areas were being targeted for more intensive searches.

OAKLAND — A rally will be held outside Oakland police headquarters tonight to mark the six-month anniversary of the disappearance of Hasanni Campbell, a 6-year-old boy who went missing in the city's Rockridge neighborhood in August.

Rally organizer Sherri-Lyn Miller said at least 50 people are expected to gather at 6 p.m. to boost public awareness about Hasanni, who was reported missing by his foster father Aug. 10.

A year later

The case is unsolved. The media attention on the case, rampant in the first months, has faded and police don't talk about or promote the case, other than to say the investigation remains open.

A group of people who have continued to search for the boy under the guidance of the nonprofit group Citizens for the Lost Society are meeting with Tom Rogers, chief deputy district attorney, on Tuesday to discuss how the group can better use their resources to continue to search for the boy. Rogers declined to comment on the case, saying, "I can't talk about an active investigation."

However, he did say, "There are still things that Oakland police are checking." Sources close to the case said police reinterviewed Ross in the spring and police plan to conduct another search for the boy in the next few months.

- Hasanni Campbell, a sweet five-year-old boy suffering from cerebral palsy vanished from the busy Rockridge neighborhood in Oakland, California. His foster father, who was dropping off Hassani at his foster mother’s job, says he left him alone for just moments when he took Hassani’s younger sister to the front of the store. Investigators don’t believe Hassani ever made it to Rockridge that day.

i saw that tv show dvrd it the thing that bothers me is why would the foster father park behind the building if he had nothing to hide?. the dogs were brought in and his fresh scent was not found in the car or near the back of the building so that leaves me to believe something else happened to him at the house way before he was to bring the children to the foster mother/aunts work. something that went bad. it was mentioned that he texted his wife about dropping the child at the sub station. was anything looked into regarding that. what about the wife did she ever take a lie detector test after she had given birth( it said on the show she refused because she was expecting)

Just thinking about this young man today :sigh:
