When this story first broke, there was nothing about JVS on Interpol. I really did look it up and I posted about it. That's when people on the internet and on tv were saying it would take 48 hours before the Interpol red alert or international warrant would go up. [I don't know if that is the correct terminology for this interpol wanted thing. ]

Here it is [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5245007&postcount=134"]Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - Joran van der Sloot strikes again, another girl murdered #2[/ame]

Patty G, that is true. I heard this on NG last week, and IIRC, the attorney from the panel who talked about this stated it in a context that it didn't matter if charges were pressed or not, or even if charges were pressed, but the person was not convicted. From what I heard, witnesses testify to the panel of three judges. I will try to find something specific in re: to charges/convictions for previous history. Again, I think it is natural for a citizen of the USA to think in terms of the way legalities proceed here. And, here in the USA, there would be a lot of legal manuevering to be allowed to introduce prior history, and if it was allowed, it would be documented from arrest/conviction. From the attorney who commented on NG, the context was very different. Certainly not so much concerned with protection of the accused.

What previous convictions does Joran have?

I think discussion being relegated to one thread is really hampering the understanding of facts, and what's happening in general.

As I wrote in the past, and has been confirmed today, new information is coming out about the NH case, new searches, maps, etc...

We really need a forum to move this forward at all efficiently. One godsend would be a specific thread where a list of articles and human translations could be organized.

The NH forum should be brought back, and a new forum for the Peru and possibly Colombian crimes should be created as well. Hell, maybe a Joran Van Der Sloot to cover both NH and the new crimes.

Anyone who agrees should quote this post so staff knows.

Never mind, anymore!

I agree.

Arrival: ~5:00 AM
Left for Coffee ~ 8:00 AM
Return with coffee: ~ 8:20 AM
Joran's Departure: ~8:40 AM

We have yet to see video of Joran going for coffee

Thanks Patty..I assumed (you know what they say about that) they had come in late the night before/early the next morning and spent the night. Now the fact that she didn't have pants on has more significance to me. I thought, well maybe that's how she slept. Now JVM has Tim Miller saying another country (El Salvador maybe?) suspects him of two girls who disappeared from casinos when he was there. Ay yi yi

ETA thanks to you to RR. And it was Columbia I guess not El Salvador.

"Breaking news"
van der sloot questioned about 2 missing girls in Columbia

http://stephww.wordpress.com/2010/0...-columbia-officals-questioning-van-der-sloot/

Bolded by me...IMO..there MUST have been some EVIDENCE..of JVS being SEEN/survellince/witnesses.. with either of these 2 girls...to warrant Columbian officials to come and question him about them....IMO..the Columbian officials would not bother to question him..IF..they have NOTHING..to TIE/CONNECT him to their disappearances...JVS could just say he knows nothing..THEY MUST HAVE SOMETHING....all in my own opinion..

Good evening :seeya: I heard the news while I was at work this morning and have tried to keep up during the day. I understand LE is taking him over to the hotel for a crime re-enactment, which I assume is like an allocution here in the US where the defendant has to describe the crime details to the satisfaction of the prosecution. Right now I'm not buying his entire story until computer forensics prove she was on his laptop during the time he supposedly went out for coffee. MOO

At this point, Joran will be charge in some form for the death of Stephany. We know the USA is next in line for Joran once Joran finishes his sentence, IF he finishes his sentence in the Peruvian prisons. SHOULD Joran be linked with the two girls missing in Columbia, then Columbia will get a piece of Joran at some point.

Then we have Aruba, with it's sandy beaches, casinos, nice hotels to visit. :)

I'm just getting to the threads, watched some of the news clips about this, and am jumping in without reading all the posts.

So, the most this guy can get in Peru is 35 years, perhaps less for confessing, not to mention the 1 day = 2 good time, which could allow him out the door in about 17.5 years if he's given the full sentence. :banghead:

Let's hope the USA can get him on extortion, too, plus Aruba finally stepping up and charging him with Natalee's disappearance/murder. Please let them find evidence! I want his other victims to come forward. There must be others. He's so violent. Maybe he didn't kill others, but.... just sayin'.

I do hope Stephany's family uses all their political connections to get this guy the full sentence, after all, it was a brutal death and he tried to escape.

So Joran was carrying around information about Natalee on his laptop. I guess that's the modern version of a diary, or a notebook. Who would do that? I'd hope I'd be smart enough to know not to carry around anything relating to my victim!

An interesting note, Lima, Peru isn't observing Daylight Saving Time, so they are currently on the same time as USA's Central DST, making them normally in the Mountain Standard Time Zone. Got that? :waitasec:

I'm just so stunned Stephany's life is worth just 35 years, maybe less, in her own country.

OT: I saw where Natalee's parents are divorced. Were they divorced when she went missing or is their marriage another casualty of JVS?

This is the way I understood it:

"Authorities determined the information that Van der Sloot provided in return turned out to be false.[22] Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty, notified the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the extortion plot for the money, which was used by Van der Sloot to finance his trip to Lima, Peru.[1] U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance issued an arrest warrant to go through Interpol in an effort to prosecute Van der Sloot in the United States."

BREAKING NEWS
JeanC: received email checked with authorities

THERE IS NO DISAPPEARANCE IN BOGOTA NOR COLUMBIA W/VDS BEING INVESTIGATED

OT: I saw where Natalee's parents are divorced. Were they divorced when she went missing or is their marriage another casualty of JVS?

Natalie's mother and step-father got divorced in 2006. I heard she had changed her name from Twitty to Holloway.

In 2006, Beth divorced Natalee's stepfather, Jug Twitty, and changed her name back to that of her former husband, Dave Holloway.

Jean Casarez says that the Colombian police are not looking for any women. I just checked the Bogota newspapers and they have barely reported the van der Sloot story. There are no stories at all about this.

This does not mean they aren't doing it, but it's not "out there" in the local media in Colombia.

JVM show - Jean C. just confirmed the Columbia officials ARE NOT on their way to question Joran.

What previous convictions does Joran have?

Patty - sorry if I didn't state things very clearly. What I understood, from the attorney on the NG panel, previous history to a Peruvian court doesn't necessarily have to be due to a conviction. If a witness wants to go before the panel of judges to testify as to how the defendant did something to negatively impact their life this is permitted in Peru. The judges then decide whether this testimony will have any significant impact on the sentence imposed should the defendant be found guilty. The way it was stated a previous "conviction" was not a necessary element. That is what I remember, and after I walk my Golden (who is getting restless from waiting while I have been on the computer) I am going to try to find info specific to this and will post the link. Again, sorry if I wasn't clear, but the distinct impression that I got was that the witness' testimony did not have to be related to an actual conviction. Don't know if that is actually how it is done, and will research it. But that is how it sounded at the time it was discussed.
