Grace Esquivel, 25, the mother of a 6-year-old daughter, Angie, was reported missing to the Mason City Police Department in Mason City in June 1983. Grace resided at 1619 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.

Her daughter spent the night of June 10 with her grandparents, Manuela and the late Armando Esquivel, while Grace said she was going out with friends.

According to reports, when Grace’s parents brought Angie home the following day, Grace was not there.

Grace’s bed was found turned down as if someone was ready to go to bed, and her wallet and driver’s license were left behind.

At the time of her disappearance, Grace was described as a 4-foot-11 Hispanic 25-year-old female with brown hair, brown eyes, and weighing about 140 pounds.

According to Lt. Ron Vande Weerd of the Mason City Police Department, Grace’s social security number has never been used since her disappearance.

It is suspected Grace Esquivel was taken against her will.

Manuela Esquivel moved to Missouri several years ago.

Doe Network updated Grace's page to include a few more pictures of her and a little more info. Apparently, a few weeks before she vanished, she called her sister in Texas out of the blue and asked if she could stay with her for awhile. Grace never explained why she wanted to come and the sister said no.

There's also an article from 1989 about the case which fills in some of the gaps and talks to some of her friends and the aforementioned sister. It sounds like Grace could have been depressed.

It never seems to be confirmed one way or the other if Grace actually went out with friends that night. None of the friends interviewed in the article mention being with her that night and the whole matter seems to be glossed over. I've never been able to find out whether Grace's car was left behind either. All that's ever mentioned is that her license and wallet were left behind, nothing about the car or keys.

I have the impression that she either went with a man to rebuild her life and for that it is probable that they told her that if she left she would have to leave alone without her daughter... or she was simply murdered and thrown into some body of water without still being found... I imagine the sister would be guilty of knowing that she would be lost without a trace, having rejected her sister's request... I think the sister was very different from her... unfortunately I think we will never know What happened to her..
