OMG imagine.... to start the whole process over again....

I would expect HHJP to move the next jury selection to Orlando and I don't believe the DT wants that!

Either way, the jury will eventually be in place and Caylee will receive justice.

I had company come for a visit and have been away from the computer for a couple of hours.

When I left AF was going through the death penalty mitigation with the woman - potential juror 3163 - who had watched a lot of the news coverage on this case. She had been a teacher for many years, and I believe she was retired. She was very talkative. At that time, I think most here felt she would be dismissed.

Was she dismissed or is she coming back?
she was #3163 and yes, she was excused.

She was dismissed - though I was in and out and don't recall the actual objection

Of course the trial will start on Thursday... Because that's the only day this month that the pulmonary specialist can see me... <sigh>

As much as I hate to type it....she looks really good today. I'll bet after reading her they go out and buy her a bunch of those sweaters in different colors.

I am with you - though it pains me to say it, she probably looked the best I have ever seen her look. I kept thinking that is what she SHOULD have looked like if she had ever really parented Caylee, getting involved in her preschool, maybe being active in the PTA, etc. That sweater set looked like something I would wear to a PTA meeting, very appropriate. Doesn't change who she is for one second, but makes me sad (again) for Caylee that her mother never had her as her priority. :(

Are today's proceedings over?

He was the last for today. HHJP is calling 3 or 4 tomorrow for the same thing. Also each team must prepare their strikes. He will swear the 17 tomorrow - then the strikes come in I believe

Not trying to be picky..however didnt Judge Perry say all stikes or back strikes have to be done before he swears jurors in??? as once sworn they cannot be removed from the juror panel??

:floorlaugh: Kinda goes to "Cart before the Horse" there BFMD???

BTW..I love this Judge Perry..Is such a down to earth kinda guy...and really love his terms...:floorlaugh: "Keepin your powder dry until the morning"..That tickled my fancy :floorlaugh:

Thanks! I was so sure that she would be excused! So evidently a male PT came after her and he's made it through the questioning and will return.

I'm pretty sure that once they are sworn in they can not get stricken out. Strikes must come beforehand.

HLN now was just showing the trial courtroom - WOW - what a nice courtroom and HUGE - they showed the balconey. The jury box has several flatscreen monitors

Wow - talking about the technology they've put into these courtrooms - really cool

I agree. I feel this whole situation is the waste of two lives...and the saddest part is it was of her own doing.

I took notes on the current "perry plan" before court let out and wanted to share them:

(mind you these are my notes)

tomorrow there are 3-4 more potential jurors scheduled for voir dire. The 17 will also be there at the courthouse. At this time HHJP will allow the SA and the DT to exercise their right to challenges. He cannot force them to use them. The first 12 seated of the remaining body will be seated and sworn and the court deputy is ready to go to swear them. the remainder will be seated and sworn as alternates. He will at that time make a decision if there are any more alternates and he reminds them that they get only one shot at challenging an alternate.. there are no back strikes on alternates. HHJP wanted 8 alternates but "we will have what we will have"

I could,nt help to notice ICA looked very deflated today as they were at the sidebar before the court was in recess for the day i think it is finally dawning on her that this trial is going to start, and she is about to walk up that corridor.

Thank U so much. I thought it would be cool to put my headphones on and lie down in bed -- NOT. I think I was snoring within 3 seconds. Hubby better show up with that cable that hooks the pooter to the TV cuz I can't sit in a chair all day - LOL.

Anyway, I pray we get the 8 alternates, because I really think we're gonna need em.

Who wants to guess JB uses all his strikes tomorrow just as a stall tactic?

MOO

Boy do I wish we had a witness list -- in order. I assume after opening, the state will start with the parents. Oh joy! MOO

What do you mean they will not be able to strike her and then say barring a miracle, she is on the jury. They have preemptory challenges don't they?

The judge ruled she is on so neither side can strike. She is the first juror.

another note on Perry Plan:

HHJP said that as each strike is used the jurors from the bottom more up into the vacant seat... here is the current order:

(these are in order of their addition)

1340: first guy up that took forever (7 y/o daughter)
1232: newspaper guy
1129: single guy two objections were denied
1398: crisis counselor
1312: anesthesia nurse
1019: computer guy with nurse wife
1055: nursing student with the rat terrier
1319: older AA lady had a challenge by state that was denied
1251: retired teacher that sounds like edie falco
1429: long grey haired lady that had a dui
1407: 22 y/o mechanic, aethiest guy defense objection denied
1119: truck driver with 2 teen girls
1025: chef with 2 young kids
1007: giggly lady defense challenge denied
1426: young single hispanic PCT who has a July cruise
1159: VA guy with 5 years in the army has young son
3397: stock trader with bad back defense objection for cause denied

(I highlighted the objections in blue so everyone could see how they would possibly shift up if struck... I am sure the defense will come back and strike all of their cause denied people)

HLN just showed clips of kc talking to JB sometime today . . . I missed that! Anyone else remember when that happened? They were standing up to take a break or leave for the day (I think).

Thank you so much (to everyone who has been keeping track of all of these jurors)! So helpful!!!
