Entertaining Sunday Mail article about the band which started on 12 July 1962:
The Stones on the Stones: Half a century after their first gig, the
most famous band in the world tell their amazing rock 'n' roll story
Still my favorite Stones clip, from the documentary 'Gimme Shelter' by Albert and David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin:

much, much more, with pictures, at link above---
Keith Richards: Madness. In the mid-Sixties, it would be: ‘How are we getting into the theatre?’ and ‘How are we getting out?’
On stage, it would last maybe ten minutes at most before it became a shambles, a riot, and the Red Cross was there with these stretchers for these poor girls, sweating with all their dresses up in the air. And you wonder what the hell you’re doing there. It’s like some Hieronymus Bosch painting in front of your eyes – and that’s the audience.
