PA PA - Louis Mackerley, 7, Allentown, 7 June 1984

As a young child in the early 1990s I regularly played in the streets after dark, but I live in a very small town.

Of course a child's freedom of movement varies according to the environment, for example during summers we stayed at our cottage on a lake island where all the neighbors were either relatives or close friends so we (my kid sister, my cousins and I) were afforded a lot of freedom even after dark as long as we stayed clear of "the beach" at the end of the bridge to the mainland where all the "hippies" hung out. To my parents and aunts and uncles anybody aged 16 to 25 was a "hippie" and those were by definition bad influence on us kids. Naturally we found them fascinating. There are about 30 cottages on the island so it's like a very small town I suppose.

However, Allentown may not be a large city but it's a big town, not the kind of place 7-year-olds should be let free to roam alone in the evening. There were teenaged boys harassing Louis earlier in the day, who knows what sort of demented scheme such kids sometimes come up with, maybe they did something to him, perhaps meant as a joke, that turned ugly?

Any chance this is him, it resembles him a lot.

The boy in the doe case file is estimated to be 12 years old in 1989, five years after Louis disappeared from his Allentown, PA home.

The photo was a polaroid which fell from a van in Florida. There was also a picture of a girl whom some believe was Tara Calico, who went missing in 1988.

There is a resemblence between Louis and the unknown boy, but the five year difference between the two incidents would make for a very remote chance that they are the same boy.

Yes but people have been kept for long periods of time and it is stated that he may not know who he is because without his meds he has lapses in memory. I dont know how far to take this I just thought that they matched up well in looks and age.

Hi
If he was with the couple who threatened to kill him.
He could have stayed alive that long because he was afraid to leave.Unless they really killed him.I thought of louis too when I saw this unidentified boy.If they thought it was Tara in the picture.Who did they think the boy with her was and why were they together?

Some people believed that the boy in the picture was Michael Henley, a nine-year-old boy who vanished in April 1988 from the same area of New Mexico as Calico. His mother identified the boy in the photograph as her son. Henley's remains were found in the Zuni Mountains in 1990.

I agree with you, they do look very similar and the ages do match up. And it is entirely possible that they are the same boy.

What I meant when I said that the chances of them being the same boy are remote is that it is very rare for a child abducted at age seven to be still living under duress (bound and gagged) and traveling around the country in a van five years later.

There certainly are cases, as seen recently, of children in such a predicament. Sadly, however, the majority of such abductions often end in the death of the child.

All things are possible, though. If you feel that there is a possible match here, by all means, contact the authorities and let them know. Yours might be the tip that helps solve the case - or at least gets LE looking into it.

Hi

LOUIS COULD STILL BE WITH ABDUCTOR, SAYS COUNSELOR
by RON DEVLIN, The Morning Call
The director of a New York center that counsels children abducted by strangers
and returned to their families doubts that Louis Mackerley was sold to a ring of
child pornographers, as David Riggs once theorized.

I quote from Charley:

David Riggs, a self-proclaimed private investigator from New York who claimed to have founded an organization called Search Seven to look for Mackerley and other missing children, was arrested in West Virginia after he accosted five young boys...Riggs pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted child abduction and one count of sexual abuse in connection with the incidents and was sentenced to a year in prison. Investigators looked into the possibility that Riggs was involved in Mackerley's abduction, but they found no evidence indicating this and he was eventually ruled out as a suspect.
