Deceased/Not Found WA - Shantina Smiley, 29, & Azriel Carver, 8 (fnd deceased), Olympia, Mar 2010 - #8

Has this been posted already? I apologize, if so.

It is an update I came across, from Michelle Sigona's website (dated June 24, 2010).

She writes:
"I spoke with Lt. Chris Mealey from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office this morning and he said, “It’s still an open case and if we get information we will move on it as quickly as we can.” He also said that the leads have fizzled out and there is a chance she went into the water with her son, but they have no official confirmation on that."

Other than that, I don't think there was anything new, that I could see.

I still check here to see if there is any news. Oh, Shantina---where are you??

Very sad that there is no closure to this case....I check here often, just hoping.

I still feel they were victims of foul play. So much just doesn't add up in this case. I wish there would be some kind of break, new information from somebody, some new lead or some possible connection to another case.:banghead:

The remarks on FaceBook Shantina Smiley & Azriel Carver, from the family in CastleRock are gone.

I recently returned from a trip up to the sound. I have to say until I saw the currents and the tidal changes for myself I don't think I fully grasped or believed their strength and speed. It's like nothing I've ever seen and I've lived next to the ocean all my life. It really did make it plausible once I saw it.

WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. – A human foot was found washed up on the east side of central Whidbey Island Friday.

The Island County Sheriff's Office says a person walking on the beach near Greenbank found the foot.

Based on the size of the foot, detectives believe it belongs to a female of juvenile. It's believed to have been in the water for less than two months.

Detectives are checking missing person's reports and DNA of the foot is being examined.

"Based on the size, we believe it's from either a juvenile or a female," he said.

Police believe that the foot was in the water for less than two months. "It's almost complete, with muscles and ligaments," Wallace said.

He said that a forensic pathologist is being called in to examine the foot, and DNA samples will be taken.

It is the ninth foot to wash up in the coastal region from B.C. to the northwestern tip of Washington since August 2007.

Could the human foot found on Whidbey Island belong to Shantina Smiley?

A human foot was found on Whidbey Island Friday - could it belong to Shantina Smiley who has been missing since March?

[snip]

Lt. Chris Mealy of the Thurston County Sheriff's office told Examiner.com Saturday that DNA on Shantina was submitted to a national database.

DNA samples from the foot will also be sent to this national database where a match would be made if it did indeed belong to Shantina.

One thing I wanted to point out is we have a lot of transients move through during the summer.

This foot may belong to Shantina Smiley but I don't know about the tides, in the Puget Sound, between Whidbey and Camano Islands.

So weird! I mean, nine feet in three years!

There is no evidence of foul play in any of those cases.

9 dismembered feet and no evidence of foul play???I can't imagine what their thinking must be! :waitasec:

E4C, I haven't read about the other feet in quite a while. But IIRC, they were able to look at tide's and come to the conclusion that many of these feet were from boating accidents elsewhere and because of tides and currents they are landing on this particular Island.

I wish I could remember where I read that article. I can't remember if I read it on the internet or in a magazine. Sorry.
