Steven Powell appeals voyeurism conviction

Steven Powell is appealing his conviction on voyeurism charges.

Powell, father-in-law of missing West Valley City woman Susan Powell, filed a notice of appeal Friday in the Pierce County Superior Court in Tacoma, Washington.

That same day, a judge sentenced Powell to 30 months in prison and 36 months of probation for photographing two neighbor girls, then 8 and 9, through their window as they bathed and used the toilet in their Puyallup, Wash., home.

A jury in May convicted Powell of 14 counts of voyeurism, but two of those counts were dismissed after the trial. Washington’s voyeurism law says each count should reflect a different photo session, and prosecutors admitted two photographs were from the same session and dismissed one count. The judge dismissed the second count.

One of Steve Powell’s attorneys, Mark Quigley, had said his client would appeal on the grounds the search of Powell’s home, which turned up digital evidence used to prosecute him, was illegal. A judge rejected that argument before his May trial.

From the Who Framed Roger Rabbit? script: :)

VALIANT
Look, pal, if you're still here when I
finish this drink, I'm callin' the
police.

ROGER RABBIT
Don't do that! I'm innocent I tell ya.
The police'll just dip me. They were
waitin' for me when I got home last
night. I ran.

VALIANT
If you're so innocent, why'd you run?

ROGER RABBIT
Gee, Eddie, I'm a rabbit. We always
run.

Maybe he'll get to build some furniture.

That was great! Still laughing. Very good Dovebar!

He'll snitch. He'll tell on the others for not making the furniture correctly. He won't be able to sell that stuff. snicker.

Maybe he'll get to build some furniture.

Thanks dovebar for the laugh during such tragedy.

SP is everything that is wrong with our world. He represents the scum of
the earth and I can only pray that he stays behind bars forever. As SD stated in some words above, I too pray the Cox's move. I do not trust SP around them. He has the victim personality along with all his defects of
character. I cringe when I think there are so many SP that exist in our world.
I get sick when I realize he is in anyone but a prisoners space.

Goz

Powell may be released from prison next May. He also may be moved to a prison out of state due to conflict of interest since he is an ex-corrections employee. (Please, make it Alaska!)

:waitasec::waitasec: " Also, Davis said Powell has been classified as "low risk" to commit another crime upon release." from link quoted.....

So who is this Davis and how on earth does he come to that conclusion???? :waitasec::waitasec:

Good question. Maybe all the karma got ole SP & he has a lack of libido. Nasty old pervert. I hope so.

SP is not going anywhere. The only way he can be moved to a prison out of state is if he were to go to a federal prison. Inmates serve their time in the state where their offenses were committed. Another state is not going to take on the expense of housing him. SP did not work directly with inmates, so he is not at risk where that is concerned. What he is at risk for from other inmates is that even most criminals/inmates don't like what he did, IMO. Davis is just blowing smoke.

Actually, states trade prisoners all the time. They make contracts with each other. Diane Downs killed her kids in Oregon, but after escaping, she was sent to New Jersey for some time, and then moved to Purdy, Washington where she still is.

Here is a recent story on how states sometimes trade prisoners or contract the job out. http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-n...acts_to_send_inmate.html#incart_river_default

States need to have ways to move problem inmates, especially if they are escape risks.

Now in the Powell instance, since he only has a few months left, I doubt they will move him, and I doubt he will be a danger to others or an escape risk, so he will probably stay where he is. For his neighbor's sake, I hope he sells his house and finds a new place to live. Maybe between a toxic body of water and a junk yard. (Do they have any nuclear plants in Washington?)

BBM Do you have any idea how hard it is to throw up and laugh at the same time? :D

Social workers tasked with protecting the children of Josh Powell did not consult with law enforcement or explore his potentially violent past before allowing him to host supervised visits at his home, a panel found Thursday.

Unbelievable. I hope the Coxes get a shipload of money out of this. And I hope it goes to court so that the state cannot hide behind a confidentiality agreement. I know a lot of money won't bring back their beautiful daughter and grandsons, but it might get the state to take their responsibilities seriously in the future.

If it wasn't for it being such a sick, sad case you could call it a comedy of errors. However, there's nothing funny about it. :banghead:
