TN - Timea Batts, 11, shot by father after getting off school bus, 8 August 2016

There are videos at link. I have a Dr's app so will try to update more when I get back.

Press conference is also available at this link. Sad.

Bless her precious heart. Her first day of Middle School. :( Dad was a felon with a gun. :gaah:

How can he shoot his own daughter! 😮

I saw this thread earlier and wanted to post "what the effing eff did I just read????" I am saying it now.

I do hope it was accidental - perhaps it was since he took her to the hospital instead of taking off. Not giving this guy a break at all, just commenting that oftentimes when this crap happens the shooter takes off. At least he did bring her to the hospital where her body can be taken care of with dignity.

So sad. What in the world would cause a father to do this?

In a shocking revelation, authorities said in court that home surveillance shows the father accused of killing his 11-year-old daughter awake and holding a gun just moments before the shooting.

Timothy Batts' version of what led to the shooting death of his 11-year-old daughter Monday is inconsistent with surveillance video collected from Batts' Hendersonville home, a detective said.

The video shows Batts walking in his home with a phone in one hand and a gun in the other minutes before his daughter, Timea Batts, enters the house, said Hendersonville police Detective Neal Harris.

Really?! He lied knowing he has home surveillance video that will contradict his story?

:furious:

Timothy Batts' bond of $1 million was reduced Friday to $500,000. The courtroom was filled with Batt's supporters who cheered after the announcement.

"With his family and children here he's not a threat to leave," said defense attorney John Pellegrin.

Pellegrin says Batts's ties to the community and the fact he runs a business played a role in bond reduction.

Considering he has children in the area is a good reason NOT to reduce his bond. What about their safety???

I think the title of this thread should be changed.

I agree.

Could the title of this be changed to "shot by father" or "killed by father" since he admits he shot his daughter?

Why all of the cheering supporters for this stepfather? I don't get it.

I think it's awful that people would support this guy, after he's (finally) admitted shooting his innocent 11yr old daughter as soon as she walks in the door from school.
Wonder who the photo he was holding was of?
He stopped to get rid of the gun, which could have bought her valuable minutes if she'd gotten to the hospital sooner, maybe she could have been saved...or was that the point...he didn't want her to be saved???
Poor Angel...RIP Timea ❤️

There was a video posted to FB of the "celebration" after Batts was released. Amid all the cheers and laughs you can hear a woman say "The love is strong out here!" A bit later Batts shouts "God is good!" and women in the background chime in with "He sure is - all the time, all the time."

I think the video's been pulled but you can see excerpts here:

I'm thoroughly disgusted watching these people dance around, clapping hands and acting like the bestest ever thing just happened. Batts is twirling some woman around and kissing her. The family's latest defense for his indefensible actions is that he was expecting Timea home at 4, not 2:45. So, family, tell us who Batts was talking to on the phone and why did he have a loaded gun in his hand? Who did he think it was when Timea walked in? Who was he expecting?

"Good father" my :behind:. His family, his pastor and his community insist he's "turned his life around" in the last two years yet become blind and deaf to the fact that he killed his child with a gun he was not supposed to possess. Because she walked into her own house. What is wrong with these people? What about Timea?

That must have been one heck of a fundraiser by the community; not only did Batts get the money to bond out - 50k - but he's hired an attorney privately.

Timothy Batts retained private attorney John Pellegrin in Gallatin. Pellegrin has the largest criminal defense firm in Sumner County.

Pellegrin said he has only had a few conversations with Timothy Batts since his arrest, but said he is emotional about the situation and cries every time they speak.

Pellegrin also addressed the video showing his client celebrating with family.

“Mr. Batts was, in that particular moment, not somber, but he’s been very quiet and somber during my conversations with him,” Pellegrin said.

Here's what his new attorney says about the two false stories Batts gave to police: “Anytime anybody gives a statement, people always wonder about the veracity of all portions of the statement,” Pellegrin said.

Um, okay...
