I swear I read somewhere that two friends gave alibis. If none of you have read the same thing, then I am obviously wrong.

We need more than others stating they've read the same thing - we need a link ;)

No one will find a link about the "two friends" this little addition to DS's having an alibi in VA was started on here.

It originally started with the police saying something to the effect that DS had provided them with an alibi that he was in VA. Someone (I'm not going to dig through 4 threads..lol.) said something to the effect "I bet it was two friends of his" and then someone else has added the word "loyal". I kinda of watched this one go on. I probably should have said something but.... sometimes people on here do not take it well and accuse people of being "snarky" and I don't want to get banned.

Just a little kids game of telephone.

Recently, there was a party here with underage drinking. The cops hauled my 17 yr old in for questioning. They were very nice to her when I was there, but she said when they had her alone, one of the cops was a rude jerk. They can and DO lie in the course of the investigation. They would have had me believing it, but they picked the wrong place to say she got booze. She told me that if they wanted to talk to her again, she wanted a lawyer, even if she had to pay for it herself.

Absolutely that happens. Never talk to the police (when they are investigating a crime or what have you, not when you see them at the donut shop buying coffee  ) without an attorney present, no matter how innocent you are.

If he was hiding out in the woods for a while, the police should be able to find some signs of that as well.

They have. Tire imprints, which have been preliminarily matched to the Dodge Ram. MSP is transporting the truck to Michigan so that their imprint specialist can examine it more closely.

I think he hid behind the shed, in my opinion. Would make grabbing her a lot easier, and would explain why the scuffle marks were where they were.

Thank you for that. Do you know where the truck was in relation to that? I read kittycorner to their house, but don't know if it was mentioned on which side?
TIA

At this point and time, and I may be wrong, but I do not believe that DS is on surveillance in OH, at the Walmart. I think we would have heard he was on the security tapes.

“When you are asking, why are we not locking this thing up,” said Lt. Risko, “we don't have Venus.”

Something about the above statement by the LE is odd. I can't put my finger on it but its just odd.

The other odd thing is the truck. Was the truck VS's or DS's? I have read on here that the car and the truck belonged to DS and then I have read the truck was actually registered to VS. If it was VS's truck I am quite sure she had keys to it.

How did she and two kids get to MI? Was the 1200 for plane tickets? Did someone drive down and get them?

How much blood was on the two cars? I'm clutzy and forever cutting myself working in the yard and then hoping in the car to go Walmart or Home Depot. If I ever go missing my family is going to be under suspicion.

In the field across Driftwood drive from the house is my understanding.

Ha, funny, I too found it odd:

As are some other statements the police have made in this case, e.g.

"Part of his alibi is he was in Virginia..."

does that mean that his alibi is (i) he was in Virginia + (ii) he was at work all day and a dozen people can verify? Or does it mean he was in Virginia for only part of the time of his alibi? Frustrating.

MCNEILL: Police have told us that he has -- his lawyer claims that he has two witnesses who will say he was in Newport News, Virginia where he has a home on that morning. And I`m sure that they`re checking those alibis, but so far haven`t shaken them.

Which leads me to wonder how the perp would've gotten her across the street and into the truck undetected at approximately 7:30am. Is it remotely possible she could've been taken in another direction such as toward the river? I'm still not grasping DS lying in wait across the street for hours waiting for the possibility Venus might come out to the mailbox. :waitasec: MOO

How do we know the truck is in Venus' name?

Hopefully not because two loyal friends told us.

Hey, it was mentioned in like 6 other posts in 5 other threads, so it has to be true! Right? j/k : )

It was in the affidavit for probable cause. :) Truck owned by Venus but in the possession of Doug--but possibly beamed up by little green men sometime around April 25-26th.

Rural road, no through-traffic because Driftwood is a loop--only residents. Possibly choke-hold to subdue her. His description by LE is former Marine, 5'11 and 250 lbs. Venus' description by LE is that she's 5'4 and 130 lbs.

PickieChickie and others have done some outside the box thinking on this you might be interested in (some links to help so you don't have to wade through pages of tangential criminal procedure discussions: ) ):

I agree. I think that that's the proverbial smoking gun in this case. The receipt ties the abductor directly to the scene via the tarp wrapper. I guess it could be argued that it could be another wrapper/tarp entirely but then there goes their circumstantial evidence. Venus is somewhere, and I think they would make an arrest if it meant they could find her more quickly. Is there a huge pool of blood in the Sable that indicates she is no longer alive? If not, wouldn't arresting DS now behoove Venus if she's being held captive somewhere, even if it means their murder case down the line is made a little harder? There is for sure someone else involved for both vehicles to have made it back to VA as we can assume DS was being watched since Monday night.

oOk, so two people gave him an alibi, says nothing about friends...

Also as far as the blood, i would think this would be additional circumstantial evidence, depending upon amount, i.e. not enough to charge if only evidence unless it is a large quantity, but something to back up other evidence, such as video (if any-have my doubts as I think video buying the items away from Va. would have been enough for probable cause already) and/or tire tracks. Alone, the blood would be iffy, since she had been in vehicle, presumably. Granted, I have never bled in either of our vehicles that i know of, but I am sure many people have, due to innocent accidents.

which almost seems too perfect. if one were going to be the devil's/husband's advocate here.

As far as I know, either vehicle being in Michigan is still a question, but they have tire tracks to compare for the truck, which is so far looking like a match.

I think the Mercury Sable sightings were from a nearby town and that make/ model of automobile is fairly common in Michigan. So maybe the Sable wasn't in Michigan at that time?

I kinda wondered about the possibility of the husband flying back to Virginia (while his accomplices drove the vehicle or vehicles back), but that seems like something the police would already have investigated. I think the nearest commercial airport would Battle Creek or maybe K-zoo? Maybe a smaller airport like that, a person could slip through security on someone else's id? At least that was the reason the 9/11 guys originated their flights in Maine or somewhere (obviously restrictions have tightened since then, but you still hear reports of investigative reporters duping airport security all too easily).

Snipped by me. Perhaps it's the wording of the article, but it makes it sound as if it was included in the search warrant that the car was seen in the Schoolcraft neighborhood? IHNI

Another search warrant shows that police also found suspected blood during a search of a 1998 Mercury Sable that belongs to Douglas Stewart and that former neighbors of the Stewarts in Schoolcraft reported seeing what was believed to be the Stewarts’ Sable “cruising the neighborhood” April 25.
