Search continues for missing Rochester man, 21
Authorities continue their search for a 21-year-old Rochester man who was reported missing Thursday afternoon.

William "Harry" Harrison Hempy was last heard from about 5 p.m. Wednesday, when he spoke to his father on the phone. Hempy told his father that he had gone for a run and would not be home in time for a scheduled outing.

The family has not been able to contact him on his cell phone and bank records indicate that he has not accessed his bank accounts. Hempy doesn't have access to a vehicle and was last known to be on foot; all of his belongings were left behind.

He's 6 feet tall, 160 pounds with hazel eyes and short, brown hair. He is believed to be wearing a black jacket, jeans and a new pair of light-colored Asics brand tennis shoes.

Hempy was scheduled to graduate from the University of Illinois in about six weeks, said Capt. John Sherwin. He rode the train home for spring break and had a return ticket for Sunday; Hempy didn't make the train.

I wonder if it's been verified that he was indeed graduating in six weeks.

Police were at Essex Park Monday searching for 21-year-old William "Harry" Harrison Hempy on foot and ATV in a mile radius surrounding the park. Investigators say information indicates that his cell phone might have been used in the area.

There's not much of a personal nature in the media coverage (did he grow up in Rochester? have friends there? how was he doing in school? etc.). Since he didn't go missing in the middle of the night after hours of drinking I remain hopeful.

Good thought. I remember the young man (can't remember his name) that disappeared 1-2 yrs ago who everyone thought was going to graduate. Luckily he was found safe. I hope this has a happy ending too.

lucky, I've seen a lot of missing persons who were believed to be college students but weren't. A few committed suicide - others just vanished for a little while.

Where are all the young men going that keep disappearing? I hope this guy is safe somewhere. He sounds like a responsible and hard working young man just starting off in life and about to embark on a new career.

Rochester student home for spring break now missing for a week
Determining that Hempy’s cellphone was detected on the north side of Rochester, law enforcement sent searchers with dogs to Essex Park but came up empty, the captain said.

Hempy’s phone is off now, Police Capt. John Sherwin said, and there has been no bank activity connected to him of late.

“Harry does not have access to a vehicle and was last known to be on foot,” a police statement issued Friday said.

There is a new effort underway in the search for a Rochester man missing since last month.

At least one new billboard is up in Rochester featuring 21-year-old William "Harry" Hempy. The billboard is located on 55th Street Northwest.

Hempy was last heard from March 25 when he told his father he was going for a run. We later learned he never took any running gear with him.
