OAKLAND — The organization that continues the search for Hasanni Campbell will hold a child safety fair Saturday to mark the 11 months he has been missing.

The Fremont boy's then-foster father, Louis Ross, told police he left the child alone when he went to the front of the store to alert Jennifer Campbell, the boy's aunt and then-foster mother, that he had arrived to drop off Hasanni and the boy's 1-year-old sister.

The boy has not been seen since. The couple lost custody of the girl and have not been seen or heard from in many months. It is believed they have left the area.

Citizens for the Lost, a nonprofit established after Hasanni's disappearance, is teaming up with the East Bay Chevs Car Club for a car show, safety fair and barbecue from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, 5951 College Ave.

All proceeds will go toward the continuing search for Hasanni, organizer Sherri-Lyn Miller said.

Hasanni Campbell Disappearance Anniversary Looms

CBS 5 CrimeWatch
Aug 7, 2010 3:22 pm US/Pacific

OAKLAND (BCN) ― Tuesday will mark the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of 6-year-old Hasanni Campbell, and a week of events is planned in the East Bay to generate publicity for the case and other ones like it, starting with the grand opening Sunday of a nonprofit dedicated to missing persons.

Hasanni was reported missing by his foster father, Louis Ross, who said the boy disappeared Aug. 10, 2009 from a car parked outside a shoe store in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood.

On Tuesday, members of the group will meet with Alameda County
Chief Deputy District Attorney Tom Rogers to discuss any possible new developments in the case.

On Aug. 28, 2009, Oakland police arrested Ross and 30-year-old Jennifer Campbell, Hasanni's aunt and foster mother, on suspicion of murder. The district attorney's office declined to file charges though because of insufficient evidence, and the couple was released.

In early January, the foster parents moved out of the Fremont home where Hasanni had lived with them. Miller said she heard Ross is now living in Maryland, and Campbell is in Arizona.

Miller said she still believes one or both of Hasanni's foster parents have information they are not telling authorities about his disappearance.

"Louis Ross and Jennifer Campbell need to start telling the truth," she said.

Following the meeting with Rogers, the group plans to hold a rally at 4 p.m. outside the district attorney's office at 661 Washington St. in Oakland. A prayer vigil is also planned for Tuesday evening at Westminster Hill Presbyterian Church at 27287 Patrick Ave. in Hayward, Miller said.

Hasanni's grandmother and aunt, Pamela Clark and Trinity Schwabacher, are scheduled to participate in at least one of the week's events, according to Miller.

"It's been a long year," Miller said. "We did a lot in a year, but we want people to know it doesn't just stop with Hasanni. There are other children and people out there that are missing and lost, and we want to focus on all the people that are forgotten."

Lost Child Case Marks One Year

By LORI PREUITT
Updated 4:00 PM PDT, Sun, Aug 8, 2010

This week marks one year since a little boy named Hasanni Campbell was reported missing. He has not been seen since.

In the past 363 days, the missing child's case has received lots of media attention, but little public interest. Vigils often drew as few as five people and weekend searches consisted of only a dozen dedicated strangers. In the beginning his foster parents and some family members took part in the vigils and the searches, but they have faded away along with any leads in the case.

To mark the one year anniversary Tuesday, Miller and a few others will meet with Alameda County Chief Deputy District Attorney Tom Rogers to discuss any possible new developments in the case. Investigators consider this a homicide case.

On Tuesday a rally will be held outside the D.A. office in Oakland at 4 p.m. By Sunday afternoon, Facebook organizers said they only knew of 14 people who would be attending the rally.

Miller could obviously use some help in her effort to find a little boy who spent all of his short life here in the Bay Area. She can be contacted at (510) 276-9090 or e-mail to findhasanni@gmail.com.

Rally to keep Hasanni Campbell case alive

Chip Johnson
Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Even the most stalwart volunteers in the search for Hasanni Campbell fear they will never find any trace of the adorable 5-year-old with cerebral palsy who disappeared one year ago today.

"We pretty much know we are searching for a body, but we still need to find him," said Sherri-Lyn Miller, founder of Citizens for the Lost, a civilian search and rescue organization.

The group, which began looking for Hasanni the day he went missing, may have to face the probability that the young boy has perished, but its primary focus is to ensure Campbell's case remains alive and active.

The group has scheduled a rally outside the Alameda County district attorney's office today at 2 p.m. to renew public interest in the case. Miller and Gail Steele, an Alameda County supervisor, are scheduled to meet with the district attorney's office afterward, Miller said.

Hasanni Campbell Still Missing After A Year

OAKLAND (BCN) ― At a news conference Tuesday, the lead investigator into the disappearance of 6-year-old Hasanni Campbell a year ago said he considers the boy's foster father to be the prime suspect in the case.

Acting Lt. Gus Galindo said he believes Hasanni "met some kind of foul play at the hands of Louis Ross," who was raising the boy along with Jennifer Campbell, who is Hasanni's aunt and foster mother.

Galindo said he believes Ross, 39, "was not forthright" in his interviews with police and said, "I want to bring him to justice."

He said he considers Ross to be the prime suspect because Ross was the last person with Hasanni, who suffered from cerebral palsy, before he disappeared.

Hasanni Campbell's foster dad remains chief suspect

OAKLAND, CA (KGO) -- One year ago 5-year-old Hasanni Campbell was first reported missing. Oakland police say the prime suspect is still the child's foster father, 39-year-old Louis Ross.

"The case is still classified as a missing person's case, but based on the investigation, I feel that Hasanni Campbell met foul play at the hands of Louis Ross and he remains the primary suspect," said Oakland Police Lt. Gus Galindo.

For Oakland homicide investigators this case is not a who done it, it's a how do we prove it without the body of little Hasanni. A year to the day after the child was reported missing by his foster father at a shoe store on College Avenue in Oakland, and after the distribution of more than 10,000 fliers with Hasanni's picture and heavy media coverage, there is no trace of the boy.

San Leandro spa hosts benefit to raise money to continue search for Hasanni Campbell

SAN LEANDRO -- Elisa Aguilera's daughter was 17 when she was shot to death in December of 2008. The teen's 19-year-old boyfriend was arrested and later convicted of her murder. Last week, Armando Vera was sentenced to 21 years in prison for the slaying of Melissa Lopez, Aguilera said.

The loss of a child to violence is a pain few parents can comprehend. So to honor the memory of her daughter, Aguilera, the owner of Elle Salon and Spa in San Leandro, is hosting a fundraiser Sunday to support the organization working to find Hasanni Campbell -- the Fremont boy who went missing more than a year ago.

Between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, the salon will have raffles, a barbecue, beauty treatments and beauty supplies available for purchase, children's activities and free popcorn. Men's haircuts will be available for $10. The salon is at 197 Pelton Center Way in San Leandro. For more information, call 510-352-7445. Aguilera is donating all proceeds from Sunday to the CFL Society.

OAKLAND -- A nonprofit organization that has led searches, candlelight vigils and fundraisers for missing Hasanni Campbell has called off further activities to focus on starting a summer youth camp.

"There won't be more searches because the focus now needs to be moved to Maryland, where Ross is," said Sherri-Lyn Miller, co-founder of Citizens for the Lost. "The public also needs to know there is a $75,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Hasanni's murderers."

Police have conducted searches for Hasanni in Fremont, Oakland and along the Hayward shoreline. They say they continue to pursue new leads as they come in.

"(Ross) is the viable suspect and we remain focused on him as the prime suspect,'' acting Oakland police Lt. Gus Galindo said. "We've not giving up on it. This case is something I will be living with for the rest of my life until I can get answers to the community."

Hassani Campbell: Missing 5-year-old from Oakland
January 18th, 2011 12:26 pm ET

In August, 2009, both Ross and Campbell were arrested on suspicion of murder. First Campbell was released and then the next day Ross, due to lack of evidence.

In September, police believed that Hassani was never at the shoe store in the first place. So, much attention was put on the surrounded the shoe store as being Hassani's last location that many people may have not looked for him outside of that general area. The last known visual sighting of Hassani was at a Wal-Mart on August 6th, 2009, in Freemont, Calif.

Where are Ross and Campbell now? Ross and Campbell moved from 5997 Roxie Terrace in Fremont, but police confiscated their BMW before they left. Last report in Jan 2010, was that Ross went to Arizona or Maryland It is unknown if Campbell is still with him or not. Ross is still considered the primary suspect in the disappearance of Hassani.

Facebook page says "I will release Hassani Campbell if you join"
January 19th, 2011 12:02 am ET

A Facebook page that says, "If 1,000,000 people join I will release Hassani Campbell" has outraged Facebookers and they want it taken down.

Many people have reported the page to Facebook, but it still remains up. Facebook's "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities" governs the relationship with users on Facebook. Upon reviewing them I believe that the Facebook page would be violating Saferule #10. "You will not use Facebook to do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory."

I believe in freedom of speech and even if I don't like what someone is saying, they have every right to say it, but I also believe in the right for a parent, a family, a citizen to morn the loss of a loved one without harrassment.

The First Amendment protects free speech, but I don't believe anyone thought it would be protecting someone who wanted to maliciously make fun of the disappearance of a child. And even if we leave free speech out of it, the morality of the page is lacking. The last thing we need as a society, is immorality.

Search and rescue teams thrive on helping others
Saturday, February 12, 2011

The volunteer experience is both challenging and rewarding. Santa Clara County's Search and Rescue Team goes out on anywhere from six to 15 real missions a year. The assignments range from trying to find a lost hiker to searching for a missing child. Those are often the most difficult. Jim Cole can't forget the faces of Hasanni Campbell, Xiana Fairchild and especially Sandra Cantu. Sandra was found dead in a suitcase.
