Franc Cano & Steven Gordon, Suspected SK's - *GUILTY*

I think it is interesting that these guys were in Vegas in April 2012 and that one of their victims, Kianna Jackson, was from Vegas and disappeared in California in October 2013. Made me wonder if they met her in Vegas and she followed them west. If so, this could have happened to any number of women from around the country. All of the victims were younger women and all had history of prostitution. I bet there were others with similar profiles who disappeared since April 2012

I have put together a quick time line from this article. Please feel free to copy and paste and add to it:

1992 Gordon convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. 2002 Gordon has kidnapping conviction

2008 Cano convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14

May 8, 2012, Gordon and Cano arrested together in LV after a two-week stay at Circus Circus Hotel & Casino

October 2013, body of Kianna Jackson, 20, of Las Vegas found in California

October 24 2013 Josephine Monique Vargas, 34 last seen

November 12 2013 Martha Anaya last seen

14 March 2014 Jarrae Nykkole Estepp's body found in Anaheim

11 April 2014 Stephen Dean Gordon, 45, and Franc Cano, 27 Arrested
I've been wondering about the Jane Doe found in a Las Vegas recycling center in 1995.

I believe I read earlier that Gordon was sentenced to three years in 1992. Even if he did the whole stretch, he could have been on the streets by the time Jane Doe was murdered in the fall of 1995.

I'm beginning to think it's possible the fifth victim lived?

OTOH, if they tracked them through their gps, why can't they locate the girls that are still missing?

GPS helped cops crack missing women cases

The slayings are serial killings and there is a fifth victim, authorities say. Franc Cano and Steven Dean Gordon are eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

I think because it just gives generalities, right? In locations? And I don't know how easy it would be to track every place they've ever been.

I think they dumped them in the trash. I agree with Bessie that the Jane Doe found at the recycling plant in 95' could be a victim of the older murderer.

On another note, here are several video and photos of Jarrae alive and prostituting. Poor thing. (I'm not sure if anyone posted these before). http://johntv.com/okc-prostitute-21-found-dead-recycling-conveyor-ca/

The suspects appeared in court today but their arraignment was continued.

From the article re:the fifth victim:

The bodies of three of the four women have not been recovered, Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said, and police this week scoured county streets for tips that might lead to a fifth victim, described as an African-American woman, in her early 20s, petite with numerous tattoos. Police said she may have ties to the city of Compton.

Unidentified victim checked into a motel near Orangewood/Kappella Aves and Beach Blvd, but never checked out or collected her belongings, so that explains a little more.

I also read in another article - which I just closed accidentally and am having trouble refinding - that the men lived out of their cars and a 'recreational' vehicle. I wish LE would issue a description of those vehicles. I think it would help.

On NBC LA the other night they said Gordon would lure women to his RV to do drugs. Also said Cano was known to prostitutes in the area to be violent and had pulled a knife on a woman the week before his arrest.

Thank you for starting this thread, Gitana!

This hits close to home for me, as well...

We have lived either close by or in Santa Ana for many years...

And are often in the city and neighboring cities for various reasons...

(O/T.... But my DD just graduated from a college in Santa Ana in January! :rocker:

ETA... In fact the college is located on First Street... Not far from where one of the perps was arrested...)

Oh. My. God. That is terrifying....just terrifying. Thank goodness you and your DD are safe, wow.

And congrats to your DD on her recent graduation! :loveyou:

Awesome article from the time LE found Julissa Trapp. It's behind the scenes of the investigation.

Faith, love and tracking serial killers

Detectives describe how they investigated the slayings of five women on O.C. streets.

Anaheim homicide Detective Julissa Trapp looked at the body of a young woman that had tumbled onto a recycling conveyer belt from a garbage truck and knew one thing with absolute certainty – she needed to buy a rosary.

The next day, Trapp headed to the store where she gets a rosary every time she launches a homicide investigation. With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, she picked a green one.

First the detective would pray her team would find the killer of the 21-year-old who ended life both as a mother and a street walker. Then – if Trapp’s prayers were answered and a suspect was arrested – she would give the rosary to the victim’s family.

This week, Trapp handed the green rosary to Jodi Estepp as she mourned the death of her daughter, Jarrae Estepp. It was a moment of some closure for the grieving parent. But there was no closure for the detective.
Coming off four weeks of dumpster diving and sleepless nights, Trapp’s team had grown to more than 75 as detectives scoured alleys, consulted with FBI profilers and sifted through data collected from GPS monitoring systems to make a key breakthrough. They discovered they weren’t just searching for Jarrae Estepp’s killer but something that usually only exists in movies and television: a serial killing duo.

Trapp’s team arrested two suspects on charges of murdering Estepp and three other women, but the remains of three victims are still missing. Worse, Trapp knows in her bones and from evidence gathered that there is a fifth victim whose name remains a mystery.

She also acknowledged during a wide-ranging interview this week, “There could be more.”

‘DON’T GET TO MEET VICTIM’

Born in the San Fernando Valley, Trapp moved to Anaheim as a child. When she was five years old, a policeman gave her a sticker and she laughed recently when she recalled knowing then and there what she wanted to be when she grew up – not a policewoman but a policeman.
When she turned 16, Trapp joined the Anaheim police department’s explorer program. At 21, she was hired as a cadet. Her mentor was old school and advised that if she wanted to join what police call the varsity squad – homicide – she needed to work in the domestic violence unit, sex crimes or gangs.

Trapp worked all three.

Ty Fran.....that was like reading a crime novel!

So why exactly does LE still use those ankle bracelets? It's nice that they can get these guys after the fact, but for some reason, I thought they were supposed to keep things from happening rather than using the past data to find out two guys killed 4+ women. I suppose it's better than nothing, but it sure gives a false sense of security to the community.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/07/28/analysis-finds-not-enough-monitoring-monitoring-bracelets-in-us/

" Agents tracking child-*advertiser censored* suspect David Renz then missed 46 alerts in nine weeks, including one generated when he removed his bracelet in March. He then raped a 10-year-old girl and killed her mother. Renz pleaded guilty to those charges July 17."

Oh. My. God. That is terrifying....just terrifying. Thank goodness you and your DD are safe, wow.

And congrats to your DD on her recent graduation! :loveyou:

It is unsettling...

Thank you for your kind words! :tyou:

What a heartfelt, thoughtful, and loving gesture... Handing the rosary to the victim's family when the perp is arrested.... :heartbeat:

I think there is a little hope that Cano, the younger one, will feel enough shame to reveal the locations of the other victims. He seems to put a lot of importance on what his family thinks, so maybe they can help persuade him?

I think that when the details emerge KFI (particularly John and Ken) will go ballistic. AB109 (release of non-violent offenders on parole - however, they are released on the crime that put them in the system, no priors considered - is a HUGE issue here) the whole "Jerry's Kids" law. If it emerges these 2 were on the AB109 program the political fallout will be huge.

*As far as I'm aware, Governor Jerry Brown had no choice, this is a Federal order to empty out the prisons to avoid overcrowding, but we have had plenty of examples of this being a not very good idea so far. Serial killers may just push it over the edge. CA is broke. What do we do?
