I hope the orange groves don't freeze. :(

Hopefully it won't be too bad. I remember that one year the "big freeze" it killed the crops and everything was shut down, closed. They don't have the plows and salters since it's so rare.
I have a friend in Tampa, i'll have to email her..

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY (Bay News 9) -- Local farmers spent the night keeping a close eye on the thermometer and their crops.
Parksdale Farms in Plant City has a lot of strawberries that were out in the elements overnight and growers said it was not just the cold concerning them but the winds as well.
"We don't get the coverage that we do need, cause the winds pushing the water,' strawberry farmer Mark Park said. "If it stays windy - you're going to have some burn marks out in the field where the water wasn't getting where it was supposed to."
Farmers said the water actually protects the plants. It freezes them in a protective barrier of air.
More Information
  • dipped down to the upper 20s, prompting growers to turn on sprinklers around 2 a.m.
Park said he likely would have to use the sprinklers again early Thursday as even colder temperatures have been forecast.
He said the crops would be assessed for damage, along with the sprinklers before preparing for tonight's cold.

They said on the news today we could headed for a deep freeze.

"UPITER, Fla., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- It wasn't raining iguanas in southern Florida -- experts said cold weather caused some of the lizards to fall asleep and drop from trees. The experts said this week's cold temperatures, which dropped into the 40s, caused several iguanas to lose their grips and fall out of trees due to the deep sleep brought on by the chilly weather, WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach reported Monday.
David Hitzig at the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter said iguanas are reported dead in higher volumes when temperatures drop because they attempt to warm themselves in dangerous places, including roads and driveways."

At least two people died in floodwaters in Georgia and another was believed drowned in Tennessee as rows of thunderstorms drenched the Southeast, submerging some major highways in the Atlanta area and prompting flood warnings Monday.

ETA: I saw an incredible pic at the above link of water rushing over a dam.

A toddler was missing Monday afternoon after the child's home was swept away by floodwaters in Carroll County, and at least two other people were killed by rising water across metro Atlanta.

Rising water pushed the mobile home into Snake Creek at Horsley Drive, according to Carroll County fire department officials.

Rescuers pulled two adults and two children from the rain-swollen creek, but were unable to find the toddler.

My sister just left this weekend for a business trip to Atlanta. I hope she's okay.

My prayers go out to all the people affected in GA, TN, AL, etc.

My garage has flooded. =( We've never seen this much rain.

They have closed schools in most of the metro Atlanta counties for tomorrow. Six deaths in the area to include a toddler.

A humongous tree uprooted from the drenched earth and smashed flat the pergola that my husband built me for Mother's Day 5 years ago.

We live in a forest and I am thinking of making everyone sleep in the basement tonight because it is not supposed to let up...!

It is no joke UGLY out there. Over 140 roads closed in Cobb County alone. All metro schools closed tomorrow, and some already closed Wednesday due to sewage/water issues.

Thousands without power, trees and power lines down.

But you still have to laugh at this:

We are in Cherokee and they have shut down Hwy. 92 and 575....I had to leave my oldest daughter with my parents for the night since I would have trouble getting to their house..

So sorry! At least you know she is in good hands. I heard some kids were spending the night at their school b/c they couldn't get out! That would about kill me.

Any idea when this is supposed to let up? I wonder about the airports; are they operable?

I am so very sorry for all of you out there in these storms and flooding. Please take good care!

I have an aunt in the Buckhead area and a nephew just out of Athens, Ga..

I heard Athens isn't so bad...they didn't have to close UGA like they did KSU, GSU, Tech, etc...but some parts of Buckhead are under 26 feet of water!
