Seriously?

Had a busy day @ with yesterday and when reading an undisclosed medication, my mind jumped to something and I avoided this place because I wasn't ready to have that discussion yet... Thankfully, I was wrong and seems we've known about it for a while...

I would love to be educated with anyone's help:
Is there a drug prescribed for a diagnosis that would prevent a monster who kills from killing?

If there is such a drug, why wouldn't those prescribed it be required to be institutionalized or at least turn up each day to a location to be witnessed taking said medication?

I am only able to tell you about Canadian law/rules:

1. Yes, there IS a medication which renders a male impotent.(Don't know if this applies in this particular case).

2. The 'impotent med' is administered via IV.

3. But......the male in question must:
a) Agree to be rendered impotent,
b) Show up for the IV infusion.

4. As far as science goes right now......NO, there is no medication which will reverse/erase/stop urges to kill, mutilate, etc.

So........no AND let's remember that the criminals also 'have rights'.

Did that help?

Does Luka indeed have female fans of the sort that would visit him in prison? Do we even know yet?

I think it is pretty much a given that LM will have plenty of fans of which he will develop correspondence with. As much as we discuss what types of people are more likely to contact someone in prison and begin to groom a relationship, I can't actually get my head wrapped around doing that with someone who has committed atrocities. My healthy sense of boundaries says "don't go there, much less even think about it". Still the fact remains, these types of criminals historically have a fan base that correspond with them through the mail. So to what degree he has a fan base presently I am not sure, but I have no doubt he will have plenty of mail moving forward. That will be the most exciting part of his day from now on...

Who in their right mind would tell him where they lived, seriously. :waitasec:

The many layers Magnotta, the criminal
June 21, 2012 14:50

Criminal profiler Pat Brown joins to chronicle the events of the Luka Magnotta saga since arriving in Canada and detailing what information might arise in regards to his mental state.

http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/video/1700984990001

Interesting interview IMO though I don't always agree with Ms Brown. Thought it worth some discussion here.

yeh that was piece I was referring to much earlier
Magnotta has garnered a collection of “fans.” Some of them say they love him, say he has been set up for a murder, that they want to have sex with him, maybe just get a tattoo of him.

Wow read this... so disturbing, I'm shocked :what:
--------------
"“I like Luka Magnotta because he is inspirational, nice, and very, very good looking,” the Support Luka Magnotta administrator, who says she is Destiney St. Denis, 21, of Saskatoon, said in an email. “I have seen the video over 20 times. I do think that was him, and I liked it. He is inspirational because he is not afraid to be himself.”

When asked about how the victim’s family would feel about her page, filled with unprintable comments, St. Denis is unapologetic.

“I couldn’t care less about that dude. I think that if anyone is a victim in this case, it is Luka … because of all the bullying he had to endure before the murder,” she said.""

I am probably stating the obvious here, as I may be doing quite a lot because I am new to all this sleuthing :blushing: but when I read your post I could only think of Schizophrenics who commit murder due to the voices in their head/delusions, if they are on effective medication then it prevents/relieves them from having these symptoms. :moo:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/06/21/f-magnotta-defence.html

“It’s a fairly high standard to meet. You can have a significant mental illness and not meet that standard," Boxall told CBC News.

Under Section 16 of Canada's Criminal Code, a person is deemed to be not criminally responsible (the term 'insane' having been scrapped) if the crime was committed while "suffering from a mental disorder that rendered the person incapable of appreciating the nature and quality of the act or omission or of knowing that it was wrong."

"That could be knowing it was legally wrong or knowing that it was morally wrong," Boxall said.

Just throwing this out there, but taking the defense/defence side, it's probably not that easy to prove this standard in court. Drugs might play a role, but all the premeditated posts "advertising" the vid suggest he clearly understands the nature of what he was doing before, during and after the crime.

IMO he hid his face and body because he clearly understood and appreciated the nature and quality of the act and knew that it was wrong both morally and legally. IMO he simply didn't respect moral value or the law as fame was possibly perceived as more important.

Yes, his objective was sick and crazy and he might be bipolar, have body dysmorphic disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, and/or aspergers syndrome and a few others and do mind altering drugs, but with all his postings, if in fact proven they are his, and the preplanning, and if the "Manny" letters story to the NY attorney is shown false and concocted as a future alibi, "Manny made me do it", he sounds guilty regardless of his mental issues.

Schizophrenia might be the only one I can think of that could fit, but one of the symptoms is "Reduced ability to plan or carry out activities" and another is "loss of motivation". Had the murder been done on a whim during some sort of episode, I might buy it, but way too much planning and organization went into the plotting and execution of this heinous act; the alleged killer was just way too motivated.

She needs some serious therapy IMO. "And I liked it?" With that attitude, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we have a sleuthing about her within the next ten years. It's tragic that someone's moral compass has gone that far south.

There is a child in great need of help and NOW. I certainly hope this has drawn the attention of LE in Saskatoon.

Interesting to see a psych profile on Luka Magnotta/Eric Newman. Sounds like people did not really know him well. A pattern I have seen many times.

As we're a global patchwork of people here, I'm curious if any German WS or someone knowledgeable about Interpol bylaws might help answer this question:

As privacy laws and freedom of information/right to know laws vary per nation, might it be legally possible for the German authorities to release any or all of their records on Magnotta?

To our awesome Canadian WS: Does the Canadian justice system have a pre-trial discovery process?
For reference, the discovery process allows for the sharing of evidence from the opposing party by means of discovery devices (interrogations, documents, requests for depositions and other evidence)

If Canada does have such a process, is this information available to the media via freedom of information requests or open government laws aka sunshine laws?

Thanks!

Response to HastingsChi - I THINK that Canadian media will NOT report anything due to the publication ban UNTIL the trial is over. Same goes for 'freedom of information', I believe.

Could be wrong, but that's what I think.

Germany like Canada does not release information about a suspect while on trial to the media.I'm sure they disclosed everything they have with Canadian authorities but they won't release it to media....
wished this would have happened (well of course I wished it WOULDN"T have happened) but since it happened why couldn't it have happened in FloridA? We'd have huge document dumps by now...

Just sharing that I noticed LM's voice changes in a couple of you tube videos I watched earlier today...

In one video he has a very deep voice:
CANADIAN GAY *advertiser censored* KILLER Luka Rocco Magnotta audition for Cover Guy - YouTube

In another recording, a much higher pitched tone:
Sun interviews Luka Magnotta - YouTube
The Sun interview sounds like a more natural speaking voice, and sorta stereotypical gay voice, while I think he was trying not to sound that way in the other interview. He even implied that he practiced that voice.

Why Magnotta’s lawyers didn’t request a psychiatrist assessment

http://www.globaltvedmonton.com/can...psychiatrist+assessment/6442666863/story.html

Interesting article. Sounds very plausible.
Especially in light of the Anders Breivik development, in which prosecutors want Breivik to go to a psychiatric facility, as they now have doubts about his sanity. All the while, Breivik insists he is sane.
He wants to be seen a certain way--control the way the public perceives him.
LM has been trying to control the way the public (internet) sees him, too.
It would make sense that he would want to keep his notoriety intact.
And after a few months of the reality which is prison, he might just change his mind?

2 very different cases, but an insight into the complexities of the insanity defence/plea.
