The recent case of a missing girl in Westminster hits close to home in Fort Morgan as local police continue to seek information on the case of Kayla Chadwick, who has been missing since late March 2012.
This remains an active investigation. Police hope the recent events in Westminster, including the discovery and identification of the body of Jessica Ridgway, 10, will renew awareness about the fact that Kayla remains missing, and perhaps additional information will emerge.

Fort Morgan police continue to seek assistance from the community with any information about Kayla.

Investigators have followed up on numerous leads across the state and even out of state. Police remain hopeful she will be reunited with her family.

CENTENNIAL, Colo., Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Colorado police said a young man reported missing this week was in jail Thursday after a dismembered body was found in his car.

Ari Liggett, 24, of Centennial was locked up Wednesday after unidentified body parts were found in the back seat of his vehicle following a short pursuit and crash in Greenwood Village.

Police told the Denver Post the female remains had not been positively identified; however, both Liggett and his mother, Beverly Liggett, 56, had been reported missing by family members earlier in the week.

Detectives from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department said credit card records revealed Liggett or his mom had been in the Western Slope area of Colorado early Tuesday. A search of the home turned up what was suspected to be potassium cyanide.

The Post said Liggett and potential poisons have been in the news before. Liggett received a suspended sentence for a 2010 incident in which he checked into a homeless shelter with a suitcase containing suspicious chemicals.

I can answer this from personal experience. My friend Tina Harmon was abducted, raped, and murdered in the 80s from my tiny little town. The guy who did it was serial killer Robert Buell. He also kidnapped and murdered another child, Krista Lee Harrison (11). He wasn't caught , however, until he kidnapped a woman and had her handcuffed to his bed (she ran out into the street naked and screaming). He was also tied to at least two other rapes and kidnaps of women. Scariest part: the guy was a city of Akron planner. And yes, he also drove around in a van, which was his ultimate undoing as carpet fibers were tied to both cases.

Robert was never officially charged with Tina's murder because he was sentenced to death for Krista Lee Harrison's murder. They have since, however, matched the dna (it was not available back then).

Robert's last meal was an olive pit so he could grow into a tree. nice. The murder of my friend changed my life (and lives of all the kids I grew up with) forever.


Sorry to go off on a tangent but yes, it does happen re: preying on adults and children. As to if it is rare or not... idk.

his small stature may be why he has to switch to a child. a grown, physically fit woman could fight off a 5'8" slight man.

I can't help but think this guy may have visited a laundromat or trashed his clothes in a trash can somewhere. I wonder if LE has thrugh about this.

I think it means light as opposed to dark or medium tone skin.

ETA: Am I missing something, because it seems just that simple to me?

A 22-year-old woman was jogging along a trail near Ketner Lake in Westminster Monday afternoon when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to put a chemical-soaked rag over her mouth, police said this afternoon.

The woman was able to fight herself free, run away and quickly call 911 on her cell phone, police said.

The assault happened at about 1:15 p.m.

Catching up again,... sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Do you think they think there's a connection due to the chemical-soaked rag? That would certainly explain a quick grab of Jessica and spiriting her away seemingly without a trace... she was a tiny girl.
