A New York Fire Department spokesman said a tour bus overturned on the New England Thruway near the West Chester County line at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday. The spokesman says the bus was carrying 31 to 33 passengers. He says in addition to the fatalities, six passengers were critically injured and four have been transported to hospitals. The spokesman says 11 others sustained minor injuries.

Yes, just heard this on the news...horrible but I feel these tour buses speed way too much. I guessing he had too much speed to make that turn...I also feel buses should have seatbelts and if they did, many might have not died...JMHO

My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those killed...

Godspeed to those injured...JMHO

I don't know about speed. It wasn't mentioned in the article. Instead, the accident was most likely caused by the tractor trailer that hit them from behind and then left the scene of the accident.

From the OP's link:

The bus, operated by the charter company World Wide Tours, was headed to Manhattan's Chinatown neighborhood carrying a full load of passengers returning from the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Conn.

As it entered the city at around 5:30 a.m., it was struck from behind by a tractor trailer, Browne said. The bus began swerving, toppled and crashed into the support post for a highway sign indicating the exit for the Hutchinson Parkway.

My grandparents used to love taking these trips to Mohegan Sun. Prayers for all involved, and the loved ones who are left to grieve. I hope they find the driver of the tractor trailer.

I hadn't read that about the tractor trailer...

Tour buses do speed and I do believe seatbelts would save lives...JMHO

seat belts may have killed more maybe because of how the pole split the bus in half at the window line from front to back...jmo

Was there a tractor trailer? If it did exist did it strike the bus? Or was the bus driver trying to avoid hitting it? So far the story is unclear.
""At this point it appears that the operator lost control of the vehicle for what is as yet an undetermined reason," Kopy said."

NEW YORK — Police were investigating a bus driver's claim that he was driven off a major highway before his bus slid into a sign pole that sheared it end to end, killing 14 people and leaving others maimed in a horrific scene of blood, jumbled bodies and shattered glass.

The driver, Ophadell Williams, told police that a tractor-trailer clipped his World Wide Tours bus just as it crossed the city line on a trip from the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut.

But state police said witnesses told them Williams was speeding before Saturday morning's crash on Interstate 95.

The above link quotes a man who ended up "hanging from his seatbelt," so apparently there were at least some seatbelts on the bus.

my prayers for all the victims of this horrible accident, it was in our paper. =(

This verdict really surprised and disappointed me. Then again, I could say that about many NYC jury decisions lately.
