Below is a link to a map showing State Road 73. A is where I turned on to SR73. B is Ophir and C is Simpson Springs Campground. I didn't go as far as the campground as I turned on the road that took me home. I only went about three miles into Ophir Canyon because the road was very icy and had more snow the further up I went. I was just me and two little dogs, cell service is spotty and it's a mile from a farm. I hope the links work for y'all. One positive is there were people out in the dessert 4 wheeling. Maybe someone will come across something. ETA: the snow you see has been like that for six weeks. So it would have been like that and snowing if Josh went out there. Bad conditions.

Below are the pics I took.

Pics looking out Southwest towards Simpson Springs. Susan could be anywhere out there. :(

The next pic is typical of the side roads off SR73. I was surprised to see the road to Ophir was plowed.

Wow.....Now I know why I moved to Southern AZ!! Sure don't miss that snow and ice (I lived on the east coast most my life).

I agree, she could be anywhere in that area. Very sad. I hate to say it, but the whole cemetary area gives me the creeps.

The only positive thing (that's not exactly positive) is that if she is just out there in the elements (not buried or hidden) the body will decompose more slowly, giving a chance to hopefully find some viable evidence.

Here is the link to Kiirsi's blog. (credit and thanks to original poster) Others have referred to it mostly because of what she says about searching, or not for Susan. Had not read the whole thing until today, what was most interesting to me is what she says that she has reason to believe that Susan was still alive/abducted, and she states numerous times that she has shared everything with police. Last updated today, although I find the Dec. 28 (The Dark Side of the Search for Susan Powell) more insightful.

Respectivly snipped by me.

Here in Utah Twilight is a very big thing, and especially a big thing it seems to me with Mormons, the author is Mormon! So I'm not a bit surprised that she would be having it mentioned in her site.
I remember seeing on the news when the last Twilight movie was going to premier and people were lining up for it the night before.

TY for letting me know...I had no idea about the author....I guess I was using my "assumptions" about what would be acceptable....and just that KH seemed more modernized or less stringent, so to speak....again, only by what my "impressions" are. I was wondering aloud, that perhaps SP was more "intense" in her religious practices....AND, maybe that's where part of the contention came from...

Found this...

I do not mean to down anyone, but the word Stepford wives keep coming to my mind.
Does anyone else see a pattern?

Dear Posters:

I want to make you aware of the “alert” button on each post. It is the white triangle in the upper right-hand corner of each post.

When you click on it, a box will open into which you can type the problem with the post. Then you click on send and the moderators receive the alert via email.

You don’t need to write a novel regarding a post you report. The reason you enter can be as simple as “rude” or “attacking” or “off-topic.”

I want to remind you about the alert button because the truth is that we don’t receive nearly enough alerts about problematic posts.

The sooner we as moderators are alerted to a post, the sooner we can look at and correct it, if needed.

I know some of you hesitate to use the alert button, but please don’t hesitate.

If a problematic post is not reported, the whole thread can go south very, very quickly. And then what happens is that we have to pull a thread and sometimes spend hours going through a thread post by post to clean it up.

And that is an incredible waste of time.

You’ll save us a lot of teeth-gnashing by reporting problematic posts promptly. (Say that ten times quickly!)

I would much rather spend my time posting new missing persons cases for us to sleuth than to spend time cleaning up threads; I currently have over 500 new, unread Google alerts in my inbox regarding missing persons. I’d rather be posting those new cases than refereeing arguments.

Please note that I write this as general advice, not in response to any one post or thread.

Thank you for taking time to read this, and have a blessed and joyous New Year!

I wonder what a voice analysis person would say about the even-toned, unemotional way Susan's friends speak about the situation. That is upsetting to me.

God gave us our emotions, and I believe that we are to feel them and show them appropriately. He gave us the tools to get to the truth.

He was going around the neighborhood asking for favors? I know the Tim Peterson neighbor gave him a ride, and from what I've read that would be the first person to go to for help, but what else did he want or need? Or is that even true? If he needed anything, there are plenty who would give it --

You did watch the interviews Oprah did with the FLDS women after all the children were taken by Child Servies and the Child Abuse investigations were going on didn't you? The women all taked in a monotone soft voice with absolutely no emotion, like robots.

Just the title itself: The Dark Side of the Search for Susan Powell, is more interesting that the blog itself. The posting itself was so boring it was actually painful to read through it. Where in her blog is the Dark Side? Anyone? She posts about why she is still friendly with Josh and complains about getting so many insulting and threatening mean posts and unless that is the Dark Side, I don't get the title. the wording Dark Side doesn't define anything about Susan missing IMO.

I do not understand the dark side either
In Twilight isn't it about vampires and the moon?
I haven't seen any of it.
and why show a patch of 'knitting' on the article???
I just DO NOT get it at all...........anyone that does, can you tell me
what it has to do with finding SUSAN?

Please let's try to steer clear of the religious side of this case. I do believe it was a factor in Susan's decision to stay as long as she did, but only in terms of Christian beliefs, and that could be said of many religions.

I don't profess to understand Kiirsi's position in all of this, but to claim that Susan may have been abducted is a bit of a stretch for me. It just doesn't make any sense, particularly in light of Josh's behavior. I don't necessarily believe she's involved, directly. But some of what she's said is suspicious, IMO.

DEFINITELY, a place not to venture during the midnight hours.

Too dark, too cold, too hard to follow roads without 4x4 traction.

He said he went there that night, but I doubt it.

What are Josh's plans now? No job, no wife, soon to be no home. Is he planning to live with his father for a long length of time? Is he going to be looking for a new wife who can take care of the kids while working a job to support them all?
Does he have any more plans of sending out magnets with his picture on them?

My question is, if Josh did it, who may have helped him and how? Was he on a time line to meet up with someone, and that's why he had to leave the fans going?

Yeah, I think Kiirsi is saying look at her knitting, but not for Susan, but I chalk it up to she wasn't a close enough friend and she likes being on tv. No, I'm more interested in who would want to help Josh and get rid of Susan. Who would? Or maybe Josh was on his own?

I do think that Susan probably felt very torn. She instinctively feared Josh's unhealthy need to control and dominate. I believe that God gives us the ability to know when danger is near, but Susan may have felt pressured by other well-meaning church members or family to "think positively"' or ignore her instinct.

Learning to discern irrational fear from God-given instinct is a gift. I think Susan was struggling to learn, but Josh snapped before she had the confidence to act upon her good instincts.

"The Gift Of Fear" by Gavin de Becker.

A book I have bought for every woman I know.

From Wiki: "The book provides strategies to help readers avoid trauma and violence by teaching them various warning signs and precursors to violence."

de Becker’s company has been employed by various government agencies to predict and prevent violence.
