** Please note that it's important, since we'll be reviewing a variety of information, that we don't turn this into a General Discussion thread, and cause more work for our mods. The goal is to look for new information, information that now has more meaning to us than it did earlier, and document it here, so let's stay focused!

If we want to discuss possible meanings of what we find, let's do it in one of the discussion threads, so we can stay focused on our fact finding mission here.

Press Release 2:

Media Questions from Family

1. What is Kyron like? What is his standout attribute?
He has a very quiet and loving personality, demonstrating warmth and enthusiasm for the people and activities that he loves. Some of things that he enjoys are playing with his Hot Wheels cars, fishing, his artwork, playing with Bootsy and Ernie, and loves to go on trips where he gets to fly on airplanes.

Kyron easily makes friends with other kids his age. He has a belly laugh that is infectious when you hear it and you can’t help but to laugh too. He is quick witted and can make any situation funny. He looks up to his big brothers and enjoys spending time with them, they dance and rock out in the living room. Kyron is the type of kid that can play by himself for hours or quickly become the center of attention with his family.

2. What does Kyron want to be when he grows up?
A Police Detective and investigator.

3. What was Kyron looking forward to doing this summer?
Kyron is looking forward to going on his annual family trips; he is going to California to spend time with friends, a trip to Seaside for his birthday, a houseboat trip on Shasta Lake in August and a Hellgate Jet Boat excursion in July. He got a new fishing pole for Christmas that he has been practicing with in the backyard so he has been looking forward to the many camping and fishing trips.

4. We were wondering about the t-shirts the family wore at the press conference yesterday – were they made and designed by the family?
It was a collaboration of efforts joining Taylor Made Printing and Lithia Motors LAD advertising agency to design, print, and ship the T-Shirts to the family. All labor and materials were donated.

5. Was Kyron in a good mood the morning he disappeared?
He was very excited about his Red Eyed Tree Frog diorama and poster board that he and his dad had been working on. Kyron was very proud of the project because he had done a lot of the diorama himself.

She called Skyline, and the school secretary called 9-1-1.

The initial report was given the "lowest priority" rating by emergency dispatchers.

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/kyron_horman_search_may_have_s.html

I still wonder what was said in that call that Kyron was given the lowest priority. I guess I am amazed that a child would be given the lowest priority at any time. In hindsight this is the biggest understatement in this case.

He said investigators wanted the family to be close, and available. He said the family needs to be prepared for the long-term experience of "trying to find our boy," and that means keeping themselves healthy – mentally and physically.

Shults said he and his "FBI colleagues," once they determined this search "could take some time," needed the family to "keep some of the normal activities in their life" to help combat stress. Shults contends that when "the family" was told to resume their life they broke down, telling deputies that "You don't understand, our normal activities are with Kyron. Everything we do now will not be normal."

The family liaison also implied the family was told to stay "off the blogs that throw things in wrong directions." This information could be in response to a Facebook comment made by Kyron's step-mom on the first Saturday of the search. In that comment she said: "Please don’t listen to the news. It is inaccurate. We will give details as soon as we can.”

Kyron's family answers 1st questions from press
It is into day nine of the search for Kyron Horman, a second-grader from Skyline Elementary School. On Saturday the family answered press questions, for the first time, via a police liaison at a 2 p.m. press conference. We have the full press conference for viewing here.

http://www.katu.com/home/video/96230129.html

Note that this is in regard to the night of June 4, and refers to Kaine and Terri, since Desiree and Tony did not get there until quite late June 4 or in the wee hours of June 5.

LEO (Shults): Why is the family not helping out in the search?

(snip)

And you have to remember, the night of the incident, why they were, why they were out there working. You have to remember, when Kyron did not come off the bus that night, they immediately went into the mode that any one of us would do if we were looking for a missing child.

They searched their neighbors' houses. They went to the schools. (Less?) They started calling neighbors, friends, anybody they could think of, meanwhile calling the police to come and assist.

So they were doing everything that we need, and by the time we were there getting organized, they were exhausted. And it's important to remember that because once they become exhausted, their resources have really ran out. And they need to get more skills to help, like the search and rescue, canine, police, helicopters, all of that, because they're pretty much have done all they could do to locate their boy right away.

Transcribed from video:

Never noticed this before. I wonder which neighbors' houses Kaine and Terri searched, what other schools besides Skyline they went to, and who all they called.

But in their only news conference of the day, officials turned a portion of their attention to cyberspace -- specifically addressing the volume of speculation and rumor being amplified through social media sites and online commentary. The Facebook/Twitter era has added an odd twist to what has emerged as one of the largest search-and-rescue operations in Oregon history.

"Our organization has never had to do that," Lt. Mary Lindstrand, spokeswoman for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, said of the efforts to address online speculation. "It's just an extraordinary case."

http://www.oregonlive.com/news/index.ssf/2010/06/post_109.html

A confluence of factors meant searchers lost key hours:

Officials at Skyline School didn't notify the boy's parents after realizing he was absent. The initial report was given the "lowest priority" rating by emergency dispatchers. Rush-hour traffic Friday evening delayed arrival of trained searchers, who gathered first at the Multnomah County sheriff's patrol office in outer Northeast Portland, then traveled to the site. Getting to the school and Kyron's neighborhood, in the rural northwestern corner of Multnomah County, took more than a half-hour.

And though news organizations reported late Friday that Kyron was missing, authorities didn't issue a full news release until the following morning.

snip

Staton said dispatchers at the Bureau of Emergency Communications classified the call from Skyline as "lowest priority." Dispatchers generally classify calls based on who's calling, what information is provided and whether there is an indication of danger or a medical issue.

Within minutes, Portland police and Multnomah County sheriff's deputies were dispatched. About a half-hour passed before they pulled up to the school and the Horman home, about 2 1/2 miles from the school.

snip

"The only thing we knew is that he was missing," Shelby said.

snip

Sometime between 7 and 7:45 p.m., Staton personally called the FBI. He said the circumstances -- Kyron disappeared from school on a busy morning -- prompted him to ask for help from the feds.

"I wanted them involved because the last time this child was seen was inside a school," he said. "This was not a child walking away from their home or getting lost in the woods. This is a child who got lost inside a school with faculty there. That was the last time the child was seen."

http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/06/kyron_horman_search_may_have_s.html

So, already at 7/7:45pm on the day Kyron went missing, Sheriff Staton knew Kyron had not wandered off on his own, but had disappeared from within the school.

Once notified, Multnomah County authorities responded swiftly, but crucial hours already had been lost, Sheriff Dan Staton said.

"This is what is hugely disturbing to me," he told The Oregonian on Saturday. "The fact that you had a child in school and the last time the child was seen is at 9 in the morning -- there are concerns about that lag time. If the child had walked away from the school, the likelihood of finding him under those circumstances would have been extremely high.

Interesting that as of the 12th, Staton still says Kyron was last seen in the school at 9:00 a.m. That implies that TH was NOT the last person to see him, if she waved goodbye at 8:45, does it not?

Unless you believe her email where SHE states she left at 9:00am.

http://www.katu.com/news/local/100323934.html

That's an interesting point. Was TH at this time, between the 4th and the 12th, saying she left Kyron at 9:00, or was it 8:45? When did the 8:45, wave goodbye report first come out?

First press release: [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5548791&postcount=2"]http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5548791&postcount=2[/ame]

"Kyron's stepmother reports she last saw him at approximately 845 AM Friday, walking down the hallway towards his classroom. School staff report not seeing him after 845 AM and that he did not make it to his classroom."

I wonder why Staton is saying over a week later that Kyron was last seen at 9:00 a.m. inside the school? If originally everyone was saying 8:45, TH & staff, where did the 9:00 a.m. come from? And it must have been verified, because this was a week later.?

In one of the earlier case review threads you'll see that Staton says it was a student who saw Kyron, a student who had been interviewed the morning that Staton made the statement.

That's what I find interesting, that Staton is still saying a week later, that Kyron was last seen at 9:00 a.m. And yet LE says TH was the last to see Kyron and she says it was 8:45. So doesn't that mean that LE has someone who witnessed TH & Kyron at 9:00 a.m.? That's my question.

Yes, that's what LE said. A student at 9am. When they later said Terri was the last known person to see Kyron before he disappeared, they neither updated nor retracted the previous information, nor did they give a time last seen with their June 18 statement.

I can't remember LE ever saying Kyron was last seen at 8:45. I recall statements in which they said that Terri reported she's last seen Kyron at 8:45, but not where they made a direct statement, other than the 9am and the 'late morning' statements.

I'm thinking this is the sighting by the truck that Desiree was referring to, at 9:00. I think LE had this info right from the beginning. Or at the time of the first flier.

I believe LE that each time they said Kyron was last seen inside the school, was not seen leaving the school, that they were telling the truth that that is the information they had.
