Publix has decided to start giving away seven commonly prescribed antibiotics for free.
The oral antibiotics will be available at no cost to any customers with a prescription as often as they need it.
Publix will offer 14-day supplies of the seven drugs at all of the company's pharmacies. The supermarket chain operates 684 pharmacies in five states.
Publix CEO Charlie Jenkins, Jr says he hopes the decision to offer the free prescriptions will build the company's pharmacy business and help people too. more at link http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292398,00.html

Cool!!! This is great!

:D

That's very nice indeed--Publix is the only supermarket we go to here in Florida--nice to see this development for families

That's great. I wish we had a publix here. This will help out so many people.

Great story. Thanks for posting, White Rain!

hmmm, this is cool.....wonder what the 7 commonly used antibiotics are?

eta....we don't have a Publix close to me..wish we did...

I am a nurse and I also live in Florida where we have a Publix on every corner. I think that this is a great idea. This will not only be helpful to a large number of individuals but, I would guess it will increase their pharmacy business as well. Very Very Smart move!!!!!

Meijer does the same thing. I think Meijer has the antibiotics listed on their website. I would post it, but I am headed out the door.

No Publix in my area. Wish there was.

The freebies are:

Publix, which is based in Lakeland, Fla., said it would give out amoxicillin, ampicillin, cephalexin, ciprofloxacin (excluding ciprofloxacin XR), erythromycin (excluding Ery-Tab), sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (or SMZ-TMP) and penicillin VK. Customers must bring in a prescription to get up to a 14-day supply for free.

hey, thanks mic!

There's no publix in my town, but there is the 4$ Walmart prescriptions. This will help people who don't have much money since those antibiotics don't cost that much anyway and doesn't address people with no health insurance being able to see a specialist or even a family doctor when they have no money when they become ill.
