Tucson girls claim they were imprisoned in home for 2 years

TUCSON — Two people were arrested Tuesday after three girls told authorities that they have been imprisoned in an Arizona home for possibly the past two years.

Tucson police said the girls are siblings — ages 12, 13 and 17 — and their mother and stepfather have been arrested in a case that’s being investigated as alleged child abuse and imprisonment.

Police said a 34-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were booked into the Pima County Jail on suspicion of three counts of kidnapping, three counts of child abuse-emotional abuse and three counts of child abuse-physical abuse.

Police found the third girl in one of the home's bedrooms. According to police, all the girls were malnourished and extremely dirty and they said they hadn't bathed in four to six months.

The girls allege that they were only fed once a day.

Gillooly said the girls were found in filthy living conditions and the younger girls had been kept separate from the 17-year-old. He said they told police the younger girls hadn't seen their older sister in two years.

.......Authorities said the girls appeared malnourished and extremely dirty, and were living in filthy conditions.

The girls told police they hadn't bathed in four to six months and were fed one meal a day, according to a Tucson police statement.......

The two youngest girls said they escaped and went to a neighbor for help after the 34-year-old man tried to break into a room while brandishing a knife, the statement said.

Police said they found the 17-year-old girl in a locked bedroom during a search of the home. The sisters told police that the eldest girl was kept in a separate bedroom from the other two and that they had not seen each other for months, possibly up to two years, police said......

Police are also holding the man on suspicion of sexual abuse of a person under 15 years of age.

Brave little girls to break out and possibly saved their sister's life.

Police will update in about 40 minutes. Just heard the neighbor say that the oldest was worried for her mom when they called police.

@Tucson_Police update at 11:30 for latest on 3 girls allegedly held captive for years by their parents. @kgun9 will carry it live.

Per Cheif of Police Villaseñor.

They previously lived in Catalina, AZ. Then to moved to E. March Place for several years before moving to current home.

The older sister had a journal that details what happened for the past year and a half & LE is combing through it for more information.

More charges will be coming. They hadn't seen the older sister for at least 2 years.

There were alarms on the doors in case anyone approached the rooms/home. 24/7 video surveillance on the girls bedrooms!

They have had a few calls to the house but not related to the girls.

Stepdad reported being chased but cancelled the call, another call was a robbery was reported.

They had no car. Mom claims this was just kids overstating what went on!

The girls are telling the truth per LE who evaluated their condition. They were seperated to verify what happened. All were consistant in what they went through.

The mom & stepdad had been together for at least 10 years and married a few years ago.

They will be interviewing other family. Parents were not employed from what they can tell.

There's a lot of evidence of what the girls have told the LE in their rooms, where they went to the restroom, how they were fed...Towels under the door, ductwork sealed off. Officers didn't hear the music until they got close to the room. The girls said the music never stopped.

Next press conference at 4 pm.

I missed a bunch but there should be updates soon.

Fernando Richter was also charged with one count of sexual abuse with a person under 15 years of age, according to police.

According to TPD Capt. Mike Gillooly, the girls were siblings, aged 12, 13, and 17.

Gillooly said the children have been removed from the home......

Neighbors said they were unaware that any children lived in the house.

The investigation is in its initial stages.

"I can assure you we're doing everything we can to make sure these kids are kept safe," Gillooly said.

We were posting at the same time, Dr. Know?! Thanks for the news from the press conference. I'm glad they found proof of what the girls are saying, and hope the children are placed in a good home.

Me too Reader. I'm sure there's a lot more to come on what they have been through. If mom linked up with stepdad 10 years ago, oh my.

Sister: Tucson woman lied about girls' whereabouts

Tucson, Ariz. — The aunt of three children allegedly imprisoned in filthy conditions in an Arizona home says the girls’ mother lied about the family’s whereabouts and wouldn’t allow her to speak with her nieces on the phone.

Chame Bueno told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday that the mother told her that the family was living in San Diego when they actually were living in Tucson.

Sure, lady. The kids were imprisoned, starved and abused, but it totally wasn't that bad!

Oh boy.

Fernando Richter, 34, and Sophia Richter, 32, face multiple charges of kidnapping and child abuse.

Just caught this on CNN. The 12 and 14 year old girls were kept locked up in one room. Their 17-year-old sister was locked in another. They hadn't bathed in six to eight months. Living conditions were filth. The girls were malnourished. They were fed once a day. The younger girls hadn't seen their sister in almost two years although she was imprisoned in the same house

The step father has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor as well as physical and emotional abuse. The girls' mother has been charged with emotional and physical abuse. The younger girls escaped out a window to a neighbors house. When police arrived they found the 17-year-old. Neighbors were not aware that the three girls were living in the house. The rooms were sealed so outsiders could not hear sounds from the house.

The home in Tucson, Ariz. where three girls were held captive was a house of horrors with 24-hour surveillance, an elaborate alarm system and music blasted round the clock, police said Wednesday.

Stepdad Fernando Richter, 34, and mom Sophia Richter, 32, face multiple charges of kidnapping and child abuse of the girls aged 12, 13 and 17.
The deranged parents appeared via video in court Wednesday morning. A judge set their bail at $100,000 and $75,000, respectively.

The stepdad also faces a charge of sexual abuse with a person under 15. They did not enter pleas.

The girls told police they were held captive for as long as two years, were given only one meal a day and hadn’t bathed for the last four to six months.
Tucson Police Chief Roberto Villasenor Wednesday said the girls were imprisoned by “a variety of means both technological and psychological.”
