'A post-mortem examination is being conducted to see what injuries, if any, the woman suffered.

Police said they were working with international police to try to identify the woman, after DNA and fingerprint testing failed to shed any light.'

'He said police divers were scouring the river for possible clues.'

I saw a girl of similar description wearing the same T-shirt and vest maybe up to 2 weeks ago on Claremont jetty (Tuesday). She and an Asian couple were crabbing together. There were up to 10 people (Vietnamese and some Cambodians) there that night. I have already passed the information to crime stoppers. Hopefully there are good quality CCTV in the area.

Acting Det-Sen. Sgt Atkinson revealed the woman had:
distinctive tattooed eyebrows and significant dental work, which would have been visible. "(The) dental work includes a root canal performed on her top front left tooth with a crown that appears white against the rest of her teeth
".
Police believe the suitcase was dumped sometime between Monday June 27th and Friday July 1st (fishermen found the suitcase on July 2nd).

Body in suitcase murder mystery: police trawl through tile manufacturer records

'Police will begin door-knocking businesses in Perth's China Town precincts of Fremantle and Northbridge on Saturday in an effort to identify the woman.

DNA testing has failed to determine the woman's country of origin.

International assistance from Asian media and Perth immigration records are also yet to reveal her identity.

Police have determined the tiles found in the suitcase and by the Fremantle Traffic Bridge were manufactured in the mid-1990s.

"We are currently, with the assistance of various businesses that have supplied tiles over a number of years, going through their databases to try and work out where they've come from," Detective Senior Sergeant Atkinson said.

He said detectives were also trawling through CCTV footage from near the Fremantle Traffic Bridge and where the bag was found, about three kilometres upriver from the bridge.

"Anybody who saw anything that was out of place, we're asking them to come forward," he said.

"We know people fish down there, people walk down there . . . we want to hear from them."

Just some thoughts on this horrible case.

Thanks to those who've already contributed.

Maybe real estate agents who've been working Fremantle and the surrounding districts recognise those tiles from homes they've been in?

Also, local dentists might be able to give more insight into where that kind of dental work was done - in Australia or overseas.

If it was performed in Australia, then the girl had access to money as root canals don't come cheap. She might be an international student, have a spouse with money or be in a well-paid job herself.

I doubt she's a student though as she'd most likely have a network of friends who'd report her as missing.

Also, if the dentistry was performed in Australia then perhaps a dentist will be able to be located who did the work and can identify her.

Since nobody has yet put a name to her face I am thinking she is either an isolated 'foreign bride' here on a spousal visa or else an illegal worker. Just guesses and I hope the police are checking out the spouse visa arrivals for the past five or so years. Alot of them I guess!

I hope someone misses this poor girl soon, though.

Yes, the daffodil border tile looks like a reproduction of a Pilkington-style design from the early 1900s. Similarly coloured glazes, too.

The tiles may be the clue to a primary crime scene and/or the occupation of a potential murderer and any co-conspirator(s).

No doubt WAPOL will be asking people involved in the building trade about subbies (particularly working visa holders) that have recently upped sticks and left without any notice.

Body-in-suitcase murder: Perth detectives canvas businesses in Northbridge's Chinatown
Phil Hickey
Perth Now
July 9, 2016 3:23pm

'MAJOR Crime Squad detectives have spent Saturday speaking with Chinatown business owners as part of their investigation into the body-in-a-suitcase murder mystery.

Detectives hope that by speaking with the Chinatown community in Northbridge they will generate further leads that will help them identify the woman found in a suitcase in the Swan River last weekend.

Several police officers spent most of Saturday in the William Street area, part of Perth’s Chinatown district, handing out pamphlets and speaking with business owners and passers-by.

Posters in several different languages including Chinese, Japanese and Thai, were put up outside businesses and in shop windows.'

'Police have released pictures of a modified scooter which they believe may have been used to help dump a suitcase containing a woman's body in Perth's Swan River.

Key points:

• Scooter not sold in Australia for almost a decade
• Cutting board attached with cable ties
• Leads about woman's identity have come to nothing, police say

The scooter was pulled out of the river near the Fremantle Traffic Bridge soon after the suitcase was found in East Fremantle last month, with the half-naked woman stuffed inside having suffered significant injuries.

Investigators said the Blade-brand scooter had not been sold in Australia for nearly 10 years.

A Maxwell and Williams cutting board had been attached to the scooter's footplate with cable ties.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Mills said police suspected the scooter may have been used to move the suitcase.

'"Without going into the specifics in relation to those two items, I can say that they are directly linked to this investigation," he said.

"Certainly one of the theories that we are pursuing at this point in time [is] that it was used to transport the suitcase."

Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Mills urged anyone who recognised the scooter to come forward, saying it was an unusual set-up.

Police also said they believe the suitcase was dumped in the river late at night.

They have appealed for help from people who were working in the area in week leading to July 2 when the woman was discovered.'

'Police have widened the possible age bracket and released fresh images in the hunt for the killer of a woman whose dismembered body was dumped in Perth's Swan River.'

'Now as the trail appears to have gone cold, authorities have released a new composite image of the woman in the hope someone in the community will recognise her and get in touch.

Police originally put her at between 35 and 45 years old, but have now said she could be anywhere between 30 and 50.

She is of Asian descent, with tattooed eyebrows and a crown on her upper-front tooth, which made it appear whiter than her other teeth.'

New photos of woman found dead in suitcase in Swan River

'Police have released new images of the body in the suitcase victim as they struggle to identify the mystery woman almost eight weeks after she was found dumped in the Swan River.

Major crime squad Det-Sen. Sgt Tom Mills admitted it was rare for someone to remain unidentified for so long and he hoped the composite images, which he believed were a good likeness, would provide a breakthrough.'

A composite image of the woman with blonde hair.

'"Her identification is crucial to this investigation ... but that doesn’t mean to say (her murder) can’t be solved without ever identifying her,” he said.

The images show the woman with different hair colours. Police believe her hair was about 20cm long — close to collar-length — and she may have been wearing it in a pony-tail.

Det-Sen. Sgt Mills conceded it was difficult for the forensic imaging specialists to match the woman’s skin tone exactly because she may have been in the water for several days before two fishermen found the floating suitcase on July 2. But he hoped the images would be enough to trigger someone’s memory and help to identify her.

“You may not know this woman’s name but she may look familiar,” he said. “It could be someone you used to see regularly at the shops or out walking but you haven’t seen them in recent weeks. Please come forward because we will investigate those sorts of things.”'

'The woman was wearing a blue Kathmandu fleece vest, a black T-shirt bearing a Tokyo Disneyland logo and a long-sleeved round-neck top when she was found. An image of the long-sleeve top, which has a L’Amitie logo on the front, was also released yesterday.'

'Homicide detectives are liaising with agencies across Australia and overseas in an effort to find out who the woman was. But they do not know if she was an Australian citizen who no longer had relatives in WA or was a visitor and, if so, how long she had been in the State.'

'Authorities have not found matches for her fingerprints or DNA on national or international data- bases. DNA testing has been able to tell police only that she was of Asian descent.'

I wonder if investigators have checked out tradespeople such as painters and decorators, plasterers and tilers on work visas? I see so many groups of men of Asian heritage in their work gear going home from those types of jobs here in Sydney.

Does the use of the scooter suggest the perpetrator/s did not have access to a vehicle? One would have to assume the murder took place close to the river as it is hard to imagine that someone transported a heavy suitcase on this scooter for much distance without being noticed.

The other thought I had is perhaps this woman had entered Australia on another person's passport and was forced into prostitution or domestic slavery.

Not necessarily - it could be that the scooter was just used for the last leg of the disposal trip, ie. to get the suitcase from a car to the water.

What it does seem to suggest though is that the person disposing of it wasn't strong enough to pick up and carry a suitcase-load of Asian woman. There were tiles weighing it down though, so who knows.

It also appears to be the type of suitcase without wheels, further necessitating the DIY scooter-chopping-board-trolley.

"WA police may have worked out the identity of the mystery woman found dead inside a suitcase in a Perth river more than two months ago.
Speculation that a breakthrough may be imminent follows two days of intensive searching by police of a house in Perth.
There are reports the dead woman may be linked to the Mosman Park property, a western suburb in Perth. "
