ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A police officer in President Bush's motorcade crashed his motorcycle and died Monday, less than a year after a crash in Hawaii killed another motorcycle officer accompanying the president.

The 40-year-old Rio Rancho officer, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, crashed at the Albuquerque airport at a point where a road enters an underground parking garage, said Trish Hoffman, a spokeswoman for the Albuquerque Police Department

Here's you a link dark shadows. Much more at the link, too.

I just saw this on Alice's link;

"Any time there is a presidential motorcade, the officers, that's part of their job, they drive at a high rate of speed," Hoffman said.

They speed everywhere they go?????

Hi Dark_Shadows

I noticed that, too. Seems odd, doesn't it?

Also read that the officer leaves behind a wife and two teenagers. :( My thoughts and prayers are with them.

To my very dearest Liz,:blowkiss:
It is a pleasure to see you.

At least I am not the only one wondering why they speed. Why would a motorcade escorting the President speed?

My thoughts and prayers are with the Officer's family also.

To make it harder for a sniper to hit the president, I would think. I've seen presidential motorcades many times in New York and Los Angeles and, yes, they were always going very fast.

Yes they do speed everywhere they go!!

I was once misfortunate enough to be on one of the Florida interstates when the president was coming down ....
I was not aware it was his motorcade until after but while driving part of the interstate narrowed to one lane for construction The motorcade almost got separated ..... Let me tell you how aggressive they were!

They actually almost ran several people into the cement barracade refusing to let anyone through ....and even when a couple of people slid by (unintentional just going with the flow of merging trafffic)
They passed them in ONE LANE.

Yeah:) I flipped them off:)

Thank-you, I always thought that those vehicles were bullet proof among other things.

While in downtown Washington DC summer of 2006 short distance from the White House, the presidents motorcade FLEW down the near cross street. IT was as IF they were on the way to a raging fire to put it out, figuratively speaking. IT was a now you see em now you don't. Incredible thing to observe.

So sorry to hear about the officer.

Would be interesting to know when this activity was instigated. WAS it after the motorcade in Dealy sp ? Plaza in Dallas, perhaps that motorcade was going waaaaay to slow.

Maybe Barn Goddess can help us on that one, since she spent lots of time in DC.

Here in Indy a couple of years ago, the police actually STOPPED all traffic on the interstate so the presidential motorcade could pass. And, yes, they were traveling very fast . . . which was good, since it got them out of the way faster and the rest of us could go on our way sooner.

They wait on no one.

I'm sure they are. But as we have learned to our sorrow with our forces in Iraq, no vehicle is invulnerable to all explosives.

Well I am just happy that you weren't injured.....

Has anyone from the public been hurt or killed because of their driving? If so what would they do, write them off as Collateral Damage???
