Detroit mom charged in stabbing death of daughter, 8

Detroit — The mother of a young girl stabbed in the chest Sunday was charged Wednesday with murder in her daughter's death.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Semeria Greene, 26, of Detroit, with felony murder, which carries a life sentence without parole, and first-degree child abuse, a 15-year penalty, for allegedly stabbing her 8-year-old daughter, Tameria Greene.

Police responded at 2:42 a.m. Sunday to an apartment in the 2270 block of Larned where Tameria Greene was found on the floor unresponsive, suffering from a stab wound to her chest...

Tameria Greene's mother, 26-year-old Semeria Greene, is charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in her daughter's death.

The girl's mother is expected to be arraigned Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, The Michigan Department of Human Services director says the department had petitioned the court to remove an 8-year-old Detroit girl, who was found stabbed to death Sunday, and her siblings from her mother's care about a month before her death...

Detroit — State officials are investigating the case of a young girl who was allowed to live with a mother who was repeatedly accused of abuse and neglect before being charged with her murder.

Semeria Greene, 26, on Wednesday was charged with murdering her daughter, Tameria, who would have turned 9 that day. She died Sunday after being stabbed in the chest at their Detroit apartment, a home caseworkers visited throughout the year, including just days before her death.

Their efforts to remove Tameria and her four siblings had been denied repeatedly since 2010, despite allegations that Semeria Greene allowed them to live in squalor, worked as a prostitute and gave birth to a son three years ago who tested positive for marijuana, records show.

Greene was due in court Jan. 29 after a Child Protective Services worker in October saw bruises on Tameria's face and body. Instead, the mother is due to be arraigned at 1 p.m. today in 36th District Court on felony murder and first-degree child abuse charges that could imprison her for life...

BBM.....Oh no, we must keep this nice family together....(sarc off) We have the same in the law here in Fl. and I hope that some sanity will eventually prevail and change the law back to what is best for the CHILD not the parents' ego or financial needs...

RIP little precious Tameria..murdered on your birthday by the one who gave you birth....but your Father will make sure you have a big celebration and welcoming now!

DETROIT -
If allegations of abuse by their mother were so blatant and piling up, then why wasn't 8-year-old Tameria Greene and her siblings taken out of the home?

The most recent petition to have the children taken from Semeria Greene's care was filed the day after this past Thanksgiving. Sources tell Local 4 the 8-year-old girl had bruises on her hand and face and she said her mother had abused her...

The more I hear/read about this case, the :furious: I feel about nothing being done to prevent this child's death. Tameria never had a chance. :rose:

The suspect's other offspring are four boys. Perhaps the fact that Tameria was a girl plays into the scenario. :moo:

Sameria Greene has been charged with felony murder after allegedly stabbing her daughter, Tameria Greene, in their apartment on Dec. 30.

Wayne County Circuit Referee Katherine Allen on Monday authorized a petition by the state Attorney General's Office on behalf of the Department of Human Services to revoke Greene's parental rights to her four surviving children.

"The referee accepted the DHS to go forward with that petition," said Elizabeth Kocab, general counsel for Wayne Circuit Court...

Detroit — The brother of an 8-year-old girl stabbed to death last week told authorities his mother "cut his sister," killing her, according to court documents filed Monday.

Tameria Greene's 4-year-old brother told an interviewer at a children's advocacy center on Dec. 30, the day she died in her home, that his mother "had a big knife and cut his sister and his mother killed Ti-Ti," according to an amended petition by the state Attorney General's Office on behalf of the Department of Human Services.

The hearing Monday was to revoke Semeria Greene's parental rights to her four surviving children...

Slain girl's mother endured a painful childhood, court documents show

Detroit — When she was barely a teenager, Semeria Greene cried out for help and predicted she'd "end up dead or just somebody dangerous on the streets," court records show.

Twelve years later, Greene is in jail on allegations she stabbed to death her 8-year-old daughter, Tameria, who was mourned Wednesday during a funeral. Dozens, some carrying flowers, filed into the Muslim Center on Davison for the private, closed-casket service.

Tameria had a tumultuous life — and documents obtained Wednesday by The Detroit News shed light on the troubled childhood of her 26-year-old mother, including accusations that she was a frequent runaway who attempted suicide and was abused herself...

Detroit woman accused of killing daughter to get competency evaluation

Detroit — A Detroit mother of five accused of stabbing her daughter to death will undergo a mental evaluation to determine whether she's competent to stand trial, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Judge Michael E. Wagner of 36th District Court on Wednesday ordered a competency evaluation for Semaria Greene.

The 26-year-old woman faces mandatory life in prison if she's convicted of felony murder and child abuse in the Dec. 30 killing of Tameria Greene, 8.

The findings will be revealed in court March 1...
