Let's not be too harsh on the family for having the window open - it is scorching hot, and if they don't have air conditioning, what are they supposed to do? It's all well and good to say you should keep your windows closed and locked - unless it's still 80 out at night.
 
I live in north-suburban Detroit and heard a Civil Emergency Alert mid-afternoon Sunday that interrupted TV programming. Since the warning signal was sounded an hour or so earlier, I thought it was another weather alert since there were severe storms in areas east of the city. The second warning was actually the Amber Alert for the missing Mariha from Detroit.

Even though the alarm is startling and made me jump both times, I'm glad to know that these missing child alerts are now coming out as quickly as possible and that one need not wait to receive local news updates/emails.

The Person who took her out of her Front Living room Window must have been pretty Tall and very talented.

The window is Approx 6 feet from ground to bottom of window ledge,
Plus they had to remove the fan,
pull them self up
crawl through a window which is approx 20 inches wide ( most box fans are 20 inch, see video)
then climb over the mother sleeping on the couch
and pickup a sleeping child sleeping on the floor with cousins
climb back over the mother sleeping on couch
on to the 20 inch window ledge while holding child
than jump 6 ft with a child in their arms...

Latest from noon news on WDIV (Channel 4):

* Mariha's mother has taken polygraph. Results not released but will determine direction of investigation.

* Autopsy taking place on child's body found in burned-out house just a mile from the Smith home. No determination of child's identity at this time.

I have a bad feeling about this, and the mother's downcast eyes during interview didn't make me feel confident that the body in the burned house was not her daughter. jmo

Wayne County spokesman Dennis Niemiec says Monday the body found appears to have been about 5 to 7 years old and her identity will be determined through DNA testing. An autopsy determined that she died of asphyxia and her death has been ruled a homicide. Niemiec says the girl's skull also was crushed.

She was a twin - I forget her name - but numerous adults claimed to have "checked on her" but she was missing later that next day. God knows what happened. In this story there isn't enough detail at all to try to think of what could have happened to her.

My impression from the articles was that the mother says she found the window wide open, not that it was left wide open. But I'm not even sure what the significance of the open window is, since the window might have been open only a little bit (or not at all) and then opened wider by anybody by the time she was reported missing.

Martha, if you watch all three of these videos, (there is commercial between each one) they explain the window and the fan how it was that night.

A missing 5-year-old girl might be the body found in a burnt home about a mile from where she was last seen, according to a Detroit Fire Department official.

Lt. Patrick McNulty said today the department is awaiting the autopsy from the Wayne County Medical Examiner, but the body of the dead child matches the description of Mariha Trenice Smith, who was reported missing from her west-side home on the 3800 block of Burlingame Street around noon Sunday.

"Everything looks like that child, but the child was terribly burned," he said. "She'd be unrecognizable except for the basic structure, the approximate size, approximate weight and the fact that she's a female."

OK I am confused again,

The mother and other family members have been stating,
"the person came through the window and took her"

If she didn't notice that she was missing until 11:30 am, because she thought she was maybe watching cartoons in the other room,


Why would you think she was taken out of the window?
Maybe she was with her cousins outside or something and she was taken from outside...:waitasec:

Also a Footnote: What person would use a window facing the street where everyone because of the heat had there windows open? :waitasec:

Just somethings I noticed in the screen shot you attaches CN2'

There appears to be an ADT alarm sign in front of the home. Did they have the service or just the sign?

There also appears to be either an electrical outlet next to a meter of some kind. (maybe the outdoor water meter?). Plus a resin chair on the porch in this photo. In the video it appears there is a lawn chair. It is possible someone could have stood on a chair and the outlet/pipe?

This is what is really confusing also and I see the LE think so too.

"They think I'm a suspect right now, and I told them I never had anything to do with my daughter missing," she said.

"They said they don't understand how someone can go over your head and take your daughter.

I wish I knew! So, hopefully, after I take a lie detector test, they'll get up and start looking for her. I'm praying they've been looking for her."

From one of the videos the Gma states the couch is under the window inside the house.

I can see maybe going in and climbing over someone but climbing out with a child in your arms????:waitasec:

They have brought in the person the mother and Gma have said had a grudge again them.

So, I think that is all they have on him, but LE has brought him in for Questioning...
